The race

Getting a bit annoyed about everyone saying that the race is over.
Massive win absolutely but we're one fuck up from letting Arsenal get close to us again.
Everything seems to stem from how Arsenal performed against West Ham and that they play against Forest next.
The reality is the 11 points could turn to 8 points since they have a game in hand.

“Turning into 8” is a good thing considering it looked like it would be 5 with us to play City & Newcastle.

We could lose to Newcastle, Arsenal win both and the gap would be 5 which going into a less intense final run of games is great breathing room.

Bring on Wednesday and let’s see where this shakes out though. I sense Sunday was a squad galvanising moment, particularly if they could hear the away end from the dressing rooms.

And to 5pts if we take our eye off the ball and once it gets to 5pts it’s on like donkey kong again!

So there’s a 4.2% chance of us blowing it? Don’t like those odds.

I think there’s a very real chance Arsenal aren’t making it to 80 points.

I’m still saying 7 wins with wiggle room in 4 games to drop points for us which gets us to at least 85 points.

To beat that, Arsenal need to win at least 11 of their remaining games, and probably no worse than a draw at Anfield.

I don’t see them doing that.

Come on mate, don't be going there.
Sorry. Normally, I try not to, mate... But I will not be condescended* to like that - It's needless and incredibly rude. Maybe it's a childhood thing that I don't remember, I don't know, but even at this age, when I've long since learnt to let most things go, I do not take being spoken down to at all well.

*(think I might have invented a new word here)

They're still a very solid team, and I expect them to win many of their remaining matches, but I just can't see where their goals are gonna come from in the next few weeks... I won't jinx it by saying the words in a normal sentence, but even the manner in which they used to score almost every week, that everybody was talking about for much of the early part of the season hasn't been particularly fruitful for them recently. They must be a very tough watch for their fans right now.

Agree.

As I said earlier, if we go (now) W6 D3 L2 we'd have 85 points and then they'd need W10 D2 L0.

I can't see either of those scenarios.

They used to score loads from set pieces. They’ve scored 1 corner since Saka got injured.

I wonder how much that Edu the Sporting Director leaving Arsenal for Forrest in the middle of the season impacted things. Highly regarded and it was seen as an odd choice. And here he is snapping at the heels.

Not sure much, his buys at times were expensive and a mixed bag at times when he did spend really big. He brought in Havertz with a big fee and salary(200k??). Outside of Arse fans, not sure he was that well rated.

Tonight will be the night when I maybe turned from doubter to believer - if Arsenal draw/lose to Forest and we go onto win our game against Newcastle. Cannot wait for the game, will be interesting seeing VVD trying to contain Isak, and if Mo will continue to score.

the post by @King Binny where it shows the biggest leads after 27 matches - and we are at the bottom of the list with 11 point lead - proves my worries that we may falter. Add to the fact that we do not have our manager for the next two PL games is another concern.

We're at the bottom of a very short list of the BIGGEST EVER LEADS after 27 matches, and THAT proves your point..? NO, it really, really doesn't...

In about 135 years of league football, only 8 or so times has anybody ever held a bigger lead at this stage in the season, and EVERY ONE of those teams went on to win the title. It should allow you to unclench somewhat, is what it should do. But, no... Why do that?

Also, didn't you say earlier today that if we win tonight and they don't, you'll believe then..? Because 11 points is clearly 'fuck all', but 13 is insurmountable..? Honest to goodness, you're incredible.

I agree with those last words, I am incredible...and yes 13 point lead even with their game in hand will psychologically be too much for them. However, you must also comsider if the curse on this club is over...last time a world event almost stopped us, and this time we have to be sure the players when travelling abroad are safe. It is these tiny little details you miss.

I see.

So, actually WINNING THE LEAGUE a few years back wasn't the end of 'the curse on this club', then..?

I remember some years ago you rescuing me from arguing endlessly with Dante.

You're arguing with someone whose name is moron.

But really, you're arguing with irrational fear. I know statistically how good things are, but I have a despairing pit of nerves before every game. I accept the way I feel about things isn't rational, but that doesn't make me stop. You aren't going to convince someone who is nervous. I wish I was enjoying this more.

The club is cursed is akin to city fans claiming everyone from the PM to refs to premium league wanting LFC to win the league rather than City and that the world was against them.

I thought everyone just scrolled straight past moron's posts? Just me? They hurt my head.

Our next league game is v rock bottom Southampton at Anfield. Our only league match in March.

While Arsenal have Man united & Chelsea. You'd imagine they best manu (away) Chelsea will be tough opposition for them (home).

Sit 13 points at the top of the league today, with a game in hand.

Beat Southampton and I see Arsenal losing dropping more points.
