Stupid question to a lot of you, I'm sure, but I always thought you'd be offside, but someone the other day said that there's no offside directly from a goal kick.

So in theory teams with goalies that can punt the ball the length of the field can stretch teams, and thus create more space, by having a couple of players standing very deep in the opposite half, like around the corner flag..
I'm guessing nobody does this because keepers can't kick it that far, but with the balls traveling faster/further with each new model, wonder if it's something teams would take advantage of in a few years?
Surely those players deep in the opposition half, if they're in an offside position, will then still be offside if they don't actually receive the ball? The keeper would need to be almost Gerrard-like in the accuracy of his long passes.

If they don't receive the ball, the likelihood is that a defender or goalie had got it instead, which would then not be much of a problem whether they're on or off.
I actually recently saw a clip of Neuer doing a massive goal kick which a forward scored from, and I thought he was offside but now I know why he wasn't.
It's not a surprising that this rule was probably used when people were kicking heavy leather balls, but eventually it'll be something the likes of Allerdice will take full advantage of should the balls be further refined.
I'm having a problem comprehending how anyone can be in an offside position from a corner, thus invoking the exception that such a situation is exempt from the offside rule. Can anyone enlighten me ?
