Bony is boss

It's not buying a striker that is prompting questions but the type of striker.

And yet people are naming wingers as suitable replacements for Suarez. BR doesn't play with out and out wingers though if we want a multi-tasker then I'd love Shaqiri (probably as close as we could find to a Sanchez-style player) .... in addition to another striker !

Are they? Like who?

Di Maria and Reus are both very capable of playing through the middle. Reus especially.

Sean, it's not like we didn't try with Sanchez, people rewrite history straight away as though we haven't bothered.
I'm not having a go about the Sanchez thing really. He never wanted to come. Just get a bit bored of every other top club being linked with the best proven quality players while we're not.

It's nearly always been the case though, we've never been able to cherry pick the best players. We all know the factors and I agree it's annoying, totally, but it's more a reflection of player mentalities than a sign of our standing as a club. Location, trying to operate under a sustainable financial setup, smaller stadium generating less money, etc... Players want the highlife and London is central to that. Sad times but if it means we'll get the right players with he right mentality, then it's ultimately better for us, I'd rather us be more like a Dortmund or an Atletico than a Chelsea.

I think 'linked' is the key word there mate. I haven't seen many best proven quality players moving to the PL yet this Summer.

As Whirly mentioned : Reus (I haven't seen many calling for Di Maria but yes another example). And as far as that goes Rodriguez too since he plays AM / MF / Winger but isn't a striker !

Reus isn't a winger. Di Maria has a lot of the attributes (and playing style) you'd associate with a traditional winger but I think people are just suggesting him because he's a top class player and appears to be available.

Both Reus and Di Maria woul be perfect in a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1. Both excellent as inside forwards and can play in more than one attacking position.

Reus is a no go according to German media.
Di Maria could be available. I'd love to sign him.

Reus isn't a winger.

Reus is an AM / Winger. Since we already have plenty of players than can play AM well, and Rodgers doesn't use out and out wingers, then we would be buying a player that may be better than what we have but isn't in a position that needs strengthening. We need strikers so I don't see people's obsession with players such as Reus / Di Maria. Not that I wouldn't welcome them .. if we strengthened in positions that genuinely need strengthening first. I'd rather see something like Bony / Shaqiri (who can play all along the front line - similar to Sanchez).

Alexandre Lacazette anyone? A forward/winger. We don't even need the Suarez money, just basically swap Borini for him (£10 million or so).

Firstly, Bony and Shaqiri are not comparable as Bony has the attributes of centre-forward and less able to play out wide whereas Shaqiri has the attributres of a wide player. Secondly, to dismiss Reus as a winger / attacker type that we already have plenty of whilst wanting Shaqiri to me seems a little odd.

It feels like your assessments of each players capabilities is off but then I don't know, maybe you've seen more of them than I have and it's me that's off.

Alexandre Lacazette

[article=http://soccerlens.com/from-france-liverpool-show-interest-in-alexandre-lacazette/145556/]Liverpool have already signed attacking players like Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and are close to completing a deal for Lazar Markovic as well. However, according to reports from France, Liverpool are keen to add one or two more forwards to their ranks.

Last month, Sky Italia reported that Liverpool are in talks with the representative of Bayern Munich midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri, but it seems such interest have cooled down. According to Le 10 Sport magazine in France, Liverpool have shifted their attention to Alexandre Lacazette, who plays for Lyon.

Actually, when the article was written for the magazine version before Alexis Sanchez’ move to Arsenal was completed. So, they claim, should Liverpool, who were also interested in Sanchez, fail to sign the Chilean, they would make a move for the French forward. He is valued at €20m, but Liverpool are unsure about the price tag of the 23-year-old. Last season he scored 15 league goals for Lyon in the league and bagged three assists as well.

Like the look of him too. Let's sign.

That said, what the fuck is the goalie doing for the first goal shown?

And, as I said before, probably the main factor: the need to buy quantity this summer to build a proper squad. The blunt truth about Arsenal is that in terms of their squad depth, they're simply a few years further down the line than we are. They can afford to spend their money on 3 players. We can't.

Transfer news: Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers wants quality not quantity

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers insists that he will be looking for quality over quantity this summer when he tries to add to his squad.
Rodgers snapped up eight players last summer, but he does not anticipate such a busy time this time around, insisting he would love to add a couple of 'top players' to his squad, which finished second in the Premier League.
Rodgers, who was named LMA Manager of the Year earlier this week, already knows what he wants in terms of improving his squad, with Liverpool known to have already lodged an offer for Southampton skipper Adam Lallana.
"I don't want to put a figure on how many but I would rather have one or two absolute top players than seven that might not help us," he told Liverpool's website.
"It's about the quality. We can't be going into the Champions League this year with doubts about players.
"We have to be going in knowing what the players' capacity to play is and their capabilities."
And Rodgers admits that he wants his deals done sooner rather than later.

"I don't want to put a figure on how many but I would rather have one or two absolute top players than seven that might not help us. It's about the quality."
Brendan Rodgers

"Ideally you would want to get things done beforehand but it is difficult because transfers are so complex," he said.
"The World Cup does make it difficult but the club and ourselves have been preparing for quite a few months now so we will try and get the business done as early as we can."
Rodgers also believes it will be easier to integrate new players due to the fact most of the squad already know how he likes things to be done.
"Two years ago, when I came in, I was looking to introduce new ideas but a lot of the players weren't there because of the European Championship," he said.
"That affected the start of the season. At least this summer we have the principles bedded in place and the players that come in will be the profile we want. It should be better for us this summer."
Keeping hold of his quality players will also be high on the agenda for Rodgers, with Luis Suarez on Wednesday refusing to be drawn on speculation that Barcelona or Real Madrid could lure him away from Anfield.
Suarez signed a new four-and-a-half year deal with Liverpool in December, but reports in the press suggest it included the option for a move to either Spanish club, if they bid a certain amount.
The Uruguayan has denied the inclusion of this clause and insists he has already made a decision about his future.
When asked about interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid, he said: "I don't want to answer that. I try to avoid press speculation.
"I know what I want and what my agent says is good for me, but I don't want to commenton speculation."

Fair enough Suarez has gone and we need a couple of extra players now because of it but i don't see why that should dramatically change what Rodgers was saying here.

'One or two absolute top players' hopefully this happens.

How are Arsenal in the market for £35-£50 million players but we're not? Fuck me, we're massive, we're back in the CL, we very nearly won the league playing amazing attacking football, we have a reputation around the world. Arsenal have London.

Sean I think you've answered your own question mate.

IN THE WRONG THREAD!!

😡

cloggy guards the thread like a Bony boss.

Seeing as we've signed 3 already, with 2 more nearly done, a LB, Lovren, and at least one Suarez replacement, making 8, then I'd suggest it's probably safe to say that Rodgers was talking bollocks.

Good player but not quite sure if he will fit it into our fluid attacking line up. I have not watched him regularly.

But here is a clip made by Mostar (@EST) on his first touch against Aston Villa. He actually got high ratings as he scored two goals but his overall play was not good.
