So as usual I bought the DVD of the highlights from the games last season. It came out yesterday but I had pre-ordered it months ago so when it turned up it was a pleasant surprise. It's strange watching an entire season boiled down into 160mins. You tend to get a rather different view of it all. Apart from the ghastly music the producers seem intent on using it's well worth the £12 I paid.
The most surprising thing is just how fucking immense Bobby is. Bloody hell! I mean ok sure we all know he's mint but watching the highlights gives a different spin. For one it's not just his goals (which we all know about) it's his selfless play in setting up others. Fucking tons of assists, little darting runs and tireless running. What a fantastic player.
It's weird watching Coutinho as well. It sucks he left when he did but apart from having a face like a smacked arse most of the time he most definitely did not down tools.
There is a lovely bit where Lovren talks about Robertson and that bonkers moment where he is chasing down the city defence. He cheekily points out that maybe in future he should watch his position more. Erm.... Fuck off Lovren - Maybe you should focus on being a competent defender!
There is also a nice aside into the impact VVD had on the squad and the overall performance of the team and more importantly the defence when he arrived. (Lovren's input on that was suspiciously absent on that point) Klopp's admission that he nearly didn't play him against Everton was funny too. Pointing out that in fact it was his footballing genius that decided he should play and was indeed rewarded with a fine goal at the Kop end against Everton. All down to Klopp apparently 😀
There is a lovely tribute to Salah from Klopp and Mane as well that was great to see.
Anyway apart from the last game and the glaringly obvious GK conundrum (this DVD really brings that point home - Karius's mistake at the near post for Sane's goal is excruciating to watch..... No concussion there!)
Anyway go and invest. It's worth it IMO.
