BBC text implies that Babel said something to the ref. It might have been that rather than the hand-off.

What was our goal like btw? I've just got in.

Players putting there hands in peoples faces "all the time" doesn't make it right though. I know he didn't hit him or anything, but by raising your arms you give the referee a decision to make, which he shouldn't have to do.

It's annoying that there isn't consistency, but you know you are running the risk every time, and given that the context was that the Ref was losing control of the situation a bit, a red was almost inevitable.

The issue is the consistency, and the fact that it seems totally fine to all crowd the ref and carry on.
 
Cant see why anyone should have a go at Babel tbh. It was one of the most shocking referee desicions of all time. Horrible. He put his hand over Luisaos mouth, hows that a red card??
These Swedish refs shouldnt be anywhere near matches like this. Fucking unfit swedish part time cunt ref

I think we are having a go at Babel because he did something that technically gets you a red every time, a foot from the ref, for no fucking reason. It's no mystery.
 
fair enough - it's a risk if you're playing i the county leagues, but the ref has to see Luisao is out to cream Torres, then, he starts getting in Babel's face, and that Babel deserved a yellow, but it was just bad refereeing to send him off for that. A good ref would have had some perspective. I'm going to wear a "Babel is the Man" badge for a week in his defence..

Sure didn't he come in to protect Nando. Give the lad a break.

It's not really stupid. Since there's no reason for a footballer to raise his hands, it obviates the need to start interpreting what is a violent act, and what isn't.

If that was true, there would be 50 additional sending offs every season. This happens a lot, and it's the first time I've seen a red card for it. It's shocking. It's unheard of really, cause you expect at this level that the refs actually knows the rules and have some intelligence when being involved in a quarter final in Europe.
