If Ayre turns up on his Harley wearing his leather jacket and oakleys, this gangster chairman is going to shit himself and sell, no bother.

From the Echo:

Liverpool remain locked in talks with Shakhtar Donetsk over a potential deal for Brazilian attacker Alex Teixeira.

However, the Reds have been told they will need to increase their initial offer of £24.5million if they are going to secure his services.

Chief executive Ian Ayre is in Orlando conducting negotiations with the Ukrainian outfit, who value Teixeira at around £38million.

Ayre flew to America on Wednesday and watched Shakhtar’s 3-2 defeat to Corinthians in the Florida Cup.

Teixeira sat out that game after pulling up during their winter training camp with a suspected hamstring injury.

He was pictured by Ukrainian TV having an ice pack attached to the back of his right leg but Shakhtar insist the problem is only minor. As a result fears that the injury could scupper the transfer have been allayed.

Teixeira has made no secret of it being his “dream” to play in the Premier League but the major stumbling block remains the fee.

Shakhtar are in no rush to sell having initially stated that the 26-year-old wouldn't go anywhere until the summer.

Teixeira, who has netted 26 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions this season, has been heavily scouted by Liverpool.

Chelsea, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have also previously registered their interest but the Reds have made their move in a bid to win the race for his signature.

Klopp looks to bolster firepower
Bolstering Liverpool's firepower has been a priority for Jurgen Klopp during the current window.

The Reds have scored just 25 goals in 22 league games this season with their striker department decimated by injuries.

Danny Ings is out for the season, Divock Origi is sidelined after undergoing knee surgery and Daniel Sturridge remains hampered by a succession of muscle problems.

Their only fit recognised striker is Christian Benteke, who has struggled to hold down a place since Klopp took over with the manager preferring to play Roberto Firmino in the false No 9 role.

Liverpool have had problems trying to secure deals with Ukrainian clubs in the past.

Weeks of complex negotiations with Shakhtar back in 2013 ended in frustration when they failed to land Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who subsequently signed for Borussia Dortmund.

It was a similar story in January 2014 when Liverpool finished the transfer window empty handed after failing to get a move for Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk’s Yevhen Konoplyanka over the line.

Liverpool believed Konoplyanka would be heading for Anfield after triggering a £15million buyout clause but Dnipro’s owner wouldn’t sign the relevant paperwork.

Teixeira would become the fifth Brazilian on the club's books, joining fellow countrymen Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Leiva, Firmino and Allan Rodrigues de Souza.

Despite not being a full Brazil international, Liverpool believe Teixeira would qualify for a work permit if they can get an agreement in place with Shakhtar.

You can tell Ryan doesn't play Fifa

I've admittedly got no idea about modern footballers outside of the Premier League these days. It's true. Outside of that front 3 for Barca, and Busquets - I couldn't tell you who else plays for them these days.

I'm sure this Teixeira chap is quality, but beyond those youtubes I watched last night, I'd never seen him before in my life. That goals-per-games ratio is impressive n all, but have you looked at some of those compilations? It's the Ukrainian league - he looks like he's playing in some pre-season friendlies the standard of the opposition is that shite.

#LFC offer £23million but Shakhtar want £30million for Alex Teixeira. #lfc (Dominic King)

This feels like all those other occasions where Ayre went overseas to wrap up a deal for someone who ended up at Chelsea or Spurs.

This is just getting fucking ridiculous now. I was happy to track Skully's percentage algorithm, but adding in ethnicity and tattoos is stretching credulity at least 24% too far.

Just to be clear his ethnicity and tattoos aren't factors in my doubting we'll sign him...they're reasons I think we shouldn't. So you were half right, 50% wrong

I've been working my arse off with stuff, unable to check in then I come back to this shite? I want this deal fucking done.

Who ended up at Spurs? The Willian and Mhykitirianianian deals come to mind. I hope to God that doesnt happen now, Cant blame Ayre for the Konoplyanka deal with Dnipro though.
