Barcelona v Liverpool Match Thread - CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL

This.

You have to be inane to blame Gomez or even Matip or VvD for their goals. For the first of was a simply brilliant run and finish by Suarez. The second had more than a touch of luck but the error was in midfield and the third was a superb FK well out.

For me the blame falls on the attackers, we shouldn't be three goals behind and virtually out heading to Anfield, we clearly had our chances and blew them.
Agree with most of this.. the first goal was Virgils fault though. He needed to track that run, yet had half his mind on Messi and a cut back.

The rest yep, we were wasteful.

We were some taught a lessons tonight ....and I didn't enjoy it, we were not clinical enough and the tatic with Gini didnt work.

Oh and loving the shit Suarez is getting tonight. Two faced cunts. I watched the game with a couple of evertonians. They said to me a few times, “now you see why we fucking hate him”.

I haven’t got a problem with anything he was up to tonight, nor him celebrating his goal. He’s a winner, simple as that.

I wish I could hate him but it's not possible

I had no issue with Suárez. I expected nothing less from a winner with the passion he has when he crosses the white line.

We were unlucky. We can come back but it’s highly unlikely.

Correct daveeeeed.

We were very unlucky tonight. Take our chances and we are in a fucking great position. They took theirs, we didn’t. It can happen. One of them things. Dunno how people can’t see that.

We didn’t play poorly tonight.

Don’t get me wrong, we are out. We won’t beat them 3-0, 4-0, 5-1 next week. But I’ll be there supporting and giving my appreciation to a group of lads who have given us a hell of a ride. Again.

This is a fucking boss team and we are going somewhere.

It is highly unlikely and now of course they have the double goal chance which we never took... that said... that scoreline was flattering to them and MAAAYBE they will roll into Anfield thinking it's job done...

With missing out on the premier league and what looks like our exit from the Champs league, a disappointing end to what has been a hell of a season... I'm still proud of em tho... and we did challenge...

Maybe a couple of strengthenings here and there... bring on next season.

I did expect more from Suárez in terms of behaviour. I did not expect him to let us win or anything like that.
However, after all the love and support he got from the club and from most of the fans during some difficult times, he could and should have left his antics at home for the games against us. I thought he was different.
He acted like the cunt that he apparently is.

I didn't expect him to behave himself at all... he always was a nutcase... and it was a good goal.

You never know maybe we can rile him into doing some stupid shit in the home leg...

NOBODY expects us to get through but it is still only half time eh...

Suarez is a cunt, always has been, dont know why anybody expected decency from him. Hes simply not capable of that, its just who he is. Anybody who thought he was sound and then changed their mind has a very selective view of the world.

We also need a less bent ref
I thought the ref was quite decent last night. Didn't fall for the theatrics that went on, and free kick apart, got most decisions right. I would take him again next week as they are going to do 10 times more rolling about and play acting and another ref may end up wrongly sending one of ours off which for them will be job done.

Barcelona 3 Liverpool 0: The Match Ratings

by Ben Johnson | May 2, 2019 | 3 comments
Alisson: 7
His footwork for the Coutinho shot first half is like Fred Astaire.
Couldn’t do a thing about any of their goals which is a shame for all concerned. Maybe he could have lined his wall up a bit better. I don’t know, I’m not a keeper.
Joey Gomez: 7
Played well in a tight three. Admirable to last the game, to be fair. Mad the way we concede three and no one is really at fault.
Joel Matip: 8
Was excellent. Didn’t deserve to be on the losing side, never mind be looking down the face of The Reds conceding three for the first time in 20 years or whatever.
Virgil: 7
It might seem harsh, but he tracks Suarez all the way for the first goal and then stops. It’s a great goal, don’t get me wrong, but if he doesn’t stop he doesn’t score. One of them. Does nothing else wrong.
Robbo: 8
Was excellent. Weirdly this might be the best The Reds have played away from home in Europe all season. Weird that, init? A constant threat, up and down all day, great defensively.
Fabinho: 7
Looked knackered after an hour. Gave away a million fouls by body checking every cunt (mainly Messi) when they ran past him, which was sound until Messi started twatting free kicks into the top bin.
Naby: 7
Absolute killer that he had to go off because it fucked The Reds a bit and he was pure bossing it.
Milner: 7
Was flying first half, boxing the half spaces. Should have scored at least one. For fuck’s sake, he should have scored at least one.
Gini: 6
Hahaha, he’s upfront. We spent the five minutes before kick off slaughtering BT for saying he was playing left wing. Lashed him false nine. Boss when they didn’t have a fucking clue for the first 10 minutes, then not so when they realised he was upfront. Was crying out for him to be taken off for Firmino at 1-0 when we were on top but it didn’t come till it was two. Shame.
Sadio: 7
Jesus, he had their lad on a burnt cob whenever he got it. Got to score that chance first half though, hasn’t he?
Mo: 7
Fucking hell. The tie turns on that missed chance. That goes in, I reckon The Reds are sound there. It doesn’t and we are fucked. A sitter? A sitter. One of them, aye.
SUBS
Henderson:

Come on, was boss going forward, but can’t help but think he should have been offering more protection to the right side. Sometimes you can’t do anything about a goal and their first was pretty much one of them, but I’m not sure it happens if Milner is playing as a spare right full back and Keita is still on.
Some ball for the Mane chance. Like, the best ball you have ever seen type ball.
Firmino:
Come on and looked dead injured.
Div:
On the left.

Shite ratings. Allison repeatedly put us under pressure with the wrong pass into a player who had no outlet. He did it for the second goal and another one led to a chance for them too. He was poor last night. 7 my arse.

And Gomez was a poor decision too.

I don't understand this thinking at all. Suarez would never ever give any team special treatment and said as such pre match. He said he loved us and the club but once he crosses the white line there are no friends, just football.

You can be a great football player without acting like a cunt.
Suárez should have behaved differently last night, if he indeed lived us.
No need for him to try and provoke Robertson, VvD, Alisson etc. (I read that he tried to confront Robertson in the tunnel).
No need to run to the ref with the rest of the Barcelona players following every whistle.

I'm probably being naive, but that's what I expected from him. And I was let down.

We created plenty of chances tonight, we just didn't finish them, not sure how a passer helps that.

In that 20 minutes or so from the start of the second half when we were camped in Barcelona's half we didn't create enough chances, just that one for Milner.

Not creating enough when we were so completely on top is why we need a passer.

Barca where just better prepared...

Klopp should have played two holding midfielders rather than diamond...

I Guess he felt playing Gomez on the right he could get away with just one.. Sadly he need to compact the midfield to stop Messi n co

Henderson and Fabinho should have both started as DM with Keita/Milner sitting behind the front 3...

I get his call for Wijnaldum as the false number 9... he covers the pitch pretty much like Frim... but his end product is nowhere near as consistent.. Origi probably should have started..

He should have then brought on TAA and Frim on far sooner in the 2nd half
