I can make peace with Gomez playing over Trent. Who ever played RB was gonna be targeted.

I'm more put out over Gini instead of Frimino. Gini was at nothing with his back to goal.

Saying that, we had our chances. Very disappointing all round.

Worst thing is we played a decent game and should have scored at least twice.
Only difference between the sides is, probably, the best ever player to play the game.

3-0. Thats hard to take. Still cant get over Salah’s miss.
We’ve had a good run but we’re not going through now.

I for one wasn't having a go at Gomez defensively as i think the first goal is Van Dijk and Matips responsibility, neither of them had Suarez marked and neither reacted when he made the run. My point about Gomez and the difference between him and Trent is how poor he is going forward. I think Alexander arnold would have caused them a lot more problems with the ball than Joe did.
I agree. Trent would have caused them more problems going forward. He would also have been targeted all game at RB. So if Trent played we would have had more chances ? We had plenty of chances. We just didnt score any.

Can't believe we have lost that 3-0. Never seen a Barca team looking average at times. Just a couple of early goals in the first 20 mins on Tues needed *crosses fingers and everything else*

Firmino being on the pitch wouldn't have made Mane, Milner and Salah take their chances. Especially not an unfit Firmino. We had enough chances to get something out of it, but didn't take them. That was the biggest issue tonight.
Yep. I wanted Trent and Bobby to start. That decision from Klopp is a talking point but its not the reason we were beaten 3nil. Barca missed a lot of chances too. Scoreline could have been anything for either team.

I dunno if they looked average. I shat myself everytime they had a break on. We played well at times but didn't take our chances and we're more than likely out now.

Roma overturned a 3 goal deficit against Messi & co last season and then went on to get twatted by us.

Never give up hope
This is exactly right, and tonight they looked pretty shit. So no worries lads we can do this still, the noise will be overwhelming and I think there is every chance we can get 2 or 3 in the first half at home. Just got this feeling.

Why do people always look for a scapegoat? Its like people need to boil it down to one person or one reason. I would have played Trent and Firmino personally but that is not the reason we lost. Gini was very quiet in Bobby's roll and Wilson wasn't as savvy as Trent on the ball but the score line is 3-0 because they scored some of their chances and Messi is a freak. Milner, Mane and Salah should have scored for us. Relatively easy chances. Sadly they didn't score and it's very disappointing.
This.

You have to be inane to blame Gomez or even Matip or VvD for their goals. For the first of was a simply brilliant run and finish by Suarez. The second had more than a touch of luck but the error was in midfield and the third was a superb FK well out.

For me the blame falls on the attackers, we shouldn't be three goals behind and virtually out heading to Anfield, we clearly had our chances and blew them.

They're average by the standards they've set over the years. Obviously they've still got great players and as we've seen Messi can still do what needs to be done.

I agree that Klopp has to shoulder some of the blame. I understand why he made certain decisions but when they don't pay off... even if it is down to fine margins, well, it's always going to come back on the manager.

That said, it was very unlucky to a) not have Firmino and b) lose a player early to injury (a-fucking-gain).

I thought it took us a while to adjust once Henderson came on. We had that great spell at the beginning of the second half but that seemed to peter out after 20mins and we started to look devoid of ideas. And that's how we lost the tie... not knowing what to do led to indecision and mistakes. Well... that and those missed chances. Everyone's spouting the gotta take your chances at this level cliches but they're cliches for a reason.

Trent would have been booked early on if he started. I mean for fucks sake .. he takes like a minute to do a throw and that ref booked Alba for delaying his throw and that was deliberate. Gomez is the better defender so i get that decision.

Klopp took a huge risk with the lineup and it didn't pay off.

Sure we missed chances and played well, but there is a reason why centre forwards are centre forwards and we decided to play a game against Barca without one.

He could have played Gini out wide, or Origi, and movee Mo or Sadio to CF.

He didn't, and it cost us. Had we won, he'd have been rightly lauded.

Very unfortunate with 2 of their goals and that was never a 3-0 game. But the lack of an away goal really has ended this tie. Had Mo scored, I'd have believed.

Now, we are staring at another trophyless season.

Urgh.

Origi at cf isn't so compelling. Neither is leaving Gomez or TAA with shaq in front of him. We could have been more defensive with one of the mids out wide, but that would have fallen apart with keita off anyway.

We got about what we wanted, and just didn't do anything with it. Then we were punished as severely as possible.

Sometimes football leaves you scratching your head thinking how the hell has that happened? Tonight is one of those performances.

We more than matched them all over the pitch. Yet come away 3-0 down.

However we have the memories of Istanbul. Everyone wrote us off... an early goal and it'll be all 'hello....hello...'

Such wise words ... thank you.

REMEMBER ISTANBUL EVERYONE !!!!
We got a full 90mins this time to get it back to 3-3 !!!!

Klopp took a huge risk with the lineup and it didn't pay off.

We didn't lose because of the selection or the tactics because we played well. We lost because we didn't have the players to take the chances that came their way or select the correct option when in a good position.

If the team had played badly then you can start looking at the selection and the tactics.

On top of that our chances fell to the players you would want them to but Mane and Salah both missed.

I'm so happy lads. We've been set up for the greatest comeback of all time. Second only to Roma's comeback v Barca last year. 2 Quick goals, and it's on like Donkey Kong. You know we are going to go for it.

This team is capable of it.

We played well, we created chances, Barca had some lucky breaks. That's the game.

Not sure why people are blaming Gomez. He had no cover in front on him. First goal was due to Alba not being closed down by a midfielder + an excellent run from Suarez. Second was a few unfortunate breaks that went their way. Third was a freak free kick. Im a huge fan of Trent but don't think he would have stopped any of the goals.

Correct daveeeeed.

We were very unlucky tonight. Take our chances and we are in a fucking great position. They took theirs, we didn’t. It can happen. One of them things. Dunno how people can’t see that.

We didn’t play poorly tonight.

Don’t get me wrong, we are out. We won’t beat them 3-0, 4-0, 5-1 next week. But I’ll be there supporting and giving my appreciation to a group of lads who have given us a hell of a ride. Again.

This is a fucking boss team and we are going somewhere.

Oh and loving the shit Suarez is getting tonight. Two faced cunts. I watched the game with a couple of evertonians. They said to me a few times, “now you see why we fucking hate him”.

I haven’t got a problem with anything he was up to tonight, nor him celebrating his goal. He’s a winner, simple as that.
