Arsenal Vs Liverpool Pre Match

A key battle will be between Giroud and our CB who is designated to play against him. Who would you choose to mark Giroud? It's gotta be between Skrtel and Sakho.

I would imagine there will be an element of zonal, the trio need to hold their relative position across the back as in I can't see Sakho tracking him over to the right as a crude example.

I think we will see him up against Skrtel a fair bit just by their general default positions of being central.

I would say it has to be either Toure or Skrtel. Giroud is a clever player and quite agile but nothing special aerially therefore maybe Toure's athleticism and mobility would probably make him the best man for the job.

I had to laugh at a story in today's press about Frimpong being disciplined for claiming he wasn't chosen to play against Chelsea last night because he's black. You know, that Wenger fella who has never signed a black player in his life.

Maybe you didn't get picked because you're shit.

He also mentioned it was because he is not english. Wenger is of course famous for packing the team with english players.

English AND white he's claiming, the useless cunt.
Even though he is shit, I'm surprised he didn't get a run out as he's their only fit DM.

I'm not sure whether man-marking Giroud is a big deal tbh, he's not a top-drawer striker (e.g. Suarez, Aguero, Van Persie) he's just a decent Premier League striker who is lucky to get such great service from the likes of Ramsey, Ozil, Walcott (when fit) etc. Our priority should be to cut off his supply i.e. man-mark Ramsey and keep a careful eye on Ozil, if we do this effectively Giroud will be a peripheral figure.

Agreed - he isn't a danger other than being a poacher in the box.. We need Lucas/ Gerrard/ Hendo/ Johnson/ Cissoko to do a job of nullifying Ozil/Ramsey/Cazorla in the final third.

I'm getting very excited, just wish my ticket was in the away end 🙁

I don't think we can rely on just cutting the supply line. I'd be amazed if they don't fashion a few chances at home, so dealing with Giroud will be quite important, IMO. He's not just a goal scorer either - he's a canny player, and very aware of where his team mates are. We definitely can't afford to take him lightly.

Late 1980's I went with my Brother to watch Arsenal v LFC League Cup quarter final at Highbury. We could only get tickets through a mate and they were terrace tickets in the middle of the North Bank (i.e. with the Arsenal fans).

I warned my Brother to keep quiet no matter what happened (he's quite exciteable). It was a fairly dull affair and was 0-0 into the 2nd half when Beardlsey put Rush through for a decent chance. Their goalie rushed out and Rushie struck it past him, the ball bobbled towards the goal and towards us and seemed to take an age as it trickled towards goal through the mud. At various times on it's way towards the goal it looked like it was going in and then it would take a bobble the other way - and then back again. What probably only took about 3 or 4 seconds seemed to last a lifetime and as everyone held their breath to see which side of the post it rolled and then I heard one voice (which I recognised instantly) yell "Yeeeeeeeeaaaa........................ooooooooooooh", the yeeeeeeeaaaaa as he thought it was in and the oooooooooh as it just trickled wide.

Needless to say we were outted and were aware of the movement towards us by various sections of the North Bank. Rather fortunately a few decent Gooners in the crowd made a bit of a joke about it and my Brother immediately apologised to the few in earshot. All peace broke loose as most of them realised we weren't trying to cause trouble but it was a close thing.

I've since been to United, City, Leeds, etc with my Brother and sat with the opposition fans but ALWAYS remind him of the night at Highbury and the importance of keeping his gob shut.

Now that I've had more time to think, I think we should go with a counter-attack tactic.

Arsenal lost 3 of their home games this season - all to teams who played a pressing and counter-attack game against them.

Arse 1-3 Villa
Arse 1-2 Dortmund
Arse 0-2 Chelsea

Arsenal play tiki-taka. It's the only way they know how to play. But they've always been labelled soft because they lack a midfield enforcer - someone who will do the dirty work of winning and tidying up those loose balls. Then, they found Flamini again. But he'll be missing for the game against us, which augurs well for us. Without Flamini, their midfield will be very attack-minded. Arteta is not a good holding midfielder. This means, Arsenal have to attack at home - leaving them much exposed at the back. And everyone knows their back four is their weakest link. And we have the best strikeforce in the league on form.

We can play 3 at the back with fast fullbacks who can break on the counter and in Glenjo and Enrique - we're quite capable.
I'll bring Agger back for this game (if he's match-fit) simply because we need a ball-playing defender who can bring the ball out when countering. Skrtel has to play too. But I'm split between Sakho and Toure. One's agile and has pace The other has big game experience and knows the enemy well.

Coutinho will be absolutely crucial in this system, especially when we hit them on the counter.

----------------Mignolet
GlenJo----Skrtel/Toure----Agger----Enrique
-----------------Lucas
-------------Hendo Stevie
---Coutinho-------------------Suarez
----------------Sturridge

Key players for us in this game?

Lucas and Gerrard. They both need have a good game against Özil, Arteta and Wilshire.
If they do, we'll win comfortably.
The Arsenal defence won't be able to cope with Suarez, Coutinho and Sturridge.
But, I think Brendan will pussy out and we'll instead have Henderson running around in midfield.
Later on Coutinho will be brought on and it'll be too late. Then we'll all go, "why didn't he start Coutinho?"

Win comfortably? I doubt that will happen. It will be an extremely tough game were we will be tested a lot in midfield and defence. I wouldnt be overly confident as that has tendency to backfire with us.

Easily the hardest game of the season so far.

I reckon the SAS thing really has teams rattled. Clarke last game said his defenders wouldn't be losing any sleep over facing the SAS now Vermaelen is spouting something similar.

Thomas Vermaelen is confident Arsenal will be able to contain Liverpool's deadly 'SAS' strike-force of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.
The pair are the most potent in England at the moment, with 16 goals between them and are the main reason Liverpool have made such a good start to the season.
But with Arsenal sitting top of the Premier League table, Vermaelen is confident that they can get the better of Suarez and Sturridge as the two sides clash in this weekend's Saturday Night Football.

"We know them from the past. We played a lot against Luis Suarez already, and of course I know him from my time in Ajax," said Vermaelen, who himself is unlikely to feature against Liverpool after dropping behind Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker in the pecking order.
"Sturridge we played against last season. We know them both, they are playing well and quite dangerous. But now we need to keep going like we did the last couple of weeks.2
Vermaelen insists that Tuesday's League Cup defeat to Chelsea will not have a major impact on the them.
"We've had a lot of big games and a defeat shouldn't take our confidence away," he said.

Sturridge and Suarez: In fine form for Reds

"We need to build on the results we had previously. We have won more games than we lost.
"It's disappointing but we have a big game on Saturday and I am quite confident we can win that game.
"It's really important to respond quickly. It's good the game is on Saturday, and we can respond to the defeat.
"We are top of the league. We should have a lot of confidence to beat Liverpool."

The key areas I feel for this match will be our flanks.

If our fullbacks and wide players keep the flanks tightly marshaled and attack them well, we'll beat the Arse.

I can see Arsenal having an awful month, starting off with a loss against us. I expect the table at the end of November will be a lot closer to what it will end up in May than it currently looks like. Just hoping we're still in the top four by the end of it.
