Alexis Sanchez

I'd be interested to know who our alternatives are if we don't sign Sanchez.

EDIT: Tony Barrett in the Times says Rodgers wants to replace Suarez with a player of similar standing. No idea who would be in that group.

barcastuff ‏@barcastuff 3h Alexis Sanchez (25) could have been part of Luis Suarez transfer, but the player would prefer other options - Arsenal and Atletico. [AS]

I like Sanchez and he is top quality but with cash in hand, lets just go get Markovic + Shaquiri. Move on if he doesnt want to come to us. Simple as.

Players must want to play for us and have that desire.

I sort of agree, but John Barnes didn't massively want to join us if I recall.

I'd say the club has a responsible to speak to him and test the waters to determine if he actually wants to come and play first team football and be loved. Suarez should have a word with him.

Problem is that both are a serious downgrade on sanchez.

If both sides are keen to include him in a deal for Suarez then surely we'll be able to at least speak to Sanchez? Fingers crossed Rodgers can convince him to join us.

How can there be so few quality strikers in the game. It's the one position everyone wants to play as kids. Even Brazil can't seem to produce any. Well, except 1.

It doesn't help that there's a fashion for spotting young kids who seem to have a natural eye for goal and, instead of working on that, it's just accepted and they're coached to add more to their game and play anywhere but centre forward. I know they need to fit into a team pattern but I wonder if they're given long enough to really develop as out and out goalscorers. If Fowler was starting out today he'd probably spend the season out on the wing.

All coaching should just be about beating a man and shooting. Requires individual attention which is more demanding.

Defending/formation is junk and boring. However, it's easier to coach as a group.

Passing falls in between.

Teams which do well in international football do what you (rightly IMO) describe in your first line. In England of course we take the approach you describe in the next line down. I wouldn't mind betting that's why we win youth tournaments and then largely the same players go on to win sweet Football Association at senior level.

Graham Hunter ‏@BumperGraham 21m #Liverpool still want #Alexis and haven't yet established what he wants to do next

Apparently Sanchez is interrupting his holiday to fly back to Barca. Why would he do that if he wasn't going to be part of the deal? Surely he'd just say no by phone if he wasn't interested or going to do anything

One story said that his future should be announced shortly. I don't think that means he's coming to us, I'm guessing that either way, Barca need Sanchez' future sorted, either as part of our deal, or as a means to part fund a cash deal for Suarez.

Either way, I dont think FSG will see us get shafted on the Suarez deal. If Sanchez isnt coming then we'll get the release clause fee.

Fuck him so. I'd hate to see us spend 30 million on him only for him to start sulking by Christmas. Complaining about how shit the weather is.

Let's be honest, the fact that Suarez is leaving is going to make it a lot harder to attract top players. Would be a lot easier of a decision for Sanchez if he was staying. Disappointing all round
