A drunk Manchester United fan called 999 "demanding" to speak to Sir Alex Ferguson after the club's defeat.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called at 22:30 GMT by a man from Crumpsall after the team lost to Sunderland in the Capital One Cup.
GMP said it "can be sad and depressing" when a football team loses a game but asked the public to "remember that 999 is to be used for emergencies only".
The force suggested contacting the club to speak to the former manager.
Manchester United lost 2-1 on penalties in the semi-final of the competition at Old Trafford under new manager David Moyes.
On GMP North Manchester's Facebook page, the force said: "A man from the Crumpsall area of North Manchester rang 999 in a drunken state demanding to speak to Sir Alex Ferguson about last night's result.
"Obviously, it can be a sad and depressing moment when you're football team loses a game, however, can we all please remember that 999 is to be used for emergencies only.
"For any other police-related enquiries that are not an emergency, you can ring 101."
"If you would like to speak to Sir Alex about recent football results we here at GMP Manchester North can only suggest you try ringing Manchester United FC directly as you will probably (not definitely) have a much better chance of getting through to him there rather than ringing the police," the statement added.

I think the people angry at this transfer are the ones who fear Mata can help United push for 4th place this season. I'm worried he'll be a catalyst to drive them onto 4th. He has a point to prove and he is an exceptional player.

I don't think anyone is under the impression that this solves United's main problems or stops the rot. Not at all. It doesn't address their problems at all. It might however give them a boost for a top four finish and a platform to allow them make the signings they need in the summer. I don't want this to happen at our expense.

United getting Mata is not a good thing for us at all. We are in direct competition with them for 4th, right now.

Yep, especially if we fail to address the gaping problems in our squad. Man Utd have a sub-par defence and a poor midfield, but to an extent their strikeforce can compensate for that, as ours has been doing with our awful back line and disjointed midfield. The fact is they're not that far off us and are adding a player of genuine quality to the mix, whilst we are spending ages trying to negotiate a gap of £8 million and subsequently losing players to other teams. Like we did in the summer.

Should have arrested the cunt for wasting police time. And being a Utd fan in Manchester, I'm pretty sure that's an offence.

[article]It is understood that the Spaniard will move to Old Trafford, with reports suggesting that the Blues have accepted a £40m offer from the Premier League champions.

However, Wenger believes it is unfair that Chelsea are selling Mata to United, particularly as the two clubs have played each other twice in the Premier League this season.

"I am surprised. Juan Mata is a great player and they sell a great player to a direct opponent," Wenger said.

"Chelsea have already played twice against Man United, they could have sold him last week.

"I think if you want to respect the fairness for everybody, this should not happen.

"I can understand completely what Chelsea are doing, and they do not make the rules, but maybe the rules should be a bit more adapted for fairness."

Arsenal, who are two points ahead of third-placed Chelsea, could face Mata when United travel to the Emirates on February 12.[/article]

I agree with ILD, this is a major boost to them getting 4th now, most likely at our expense. 6 points over 16 games isn't much to make up. I think some people in here shouldn't be so relaxed when looking at this situation.

Are you sure, Jose? Arsenal boss Wenger questions Mourinho's decision to sell Mata to rivals United

He said: 'I'm surprised Mata is allowed to go because he is a great player. And Chelsea are strengthening a direct opponent.
'It opens up transfer market, Chelsea don't play United again. They could have sold Mata two weeks ago.'

errrr.....

Chelsea do seem to have a bit of a scattergun approach to playing staff these days.
Are Matic and Salah better than Mata and De Bruyne?

Mad - maybe Salah is more prepared to sit on the bench than Mata but it weakens his squad no doubt about it, maybe a bit of books balancing is going on prior to ffp. Not much chance of an injury crisis befalling them - they seem to have 100's of players.

I don't know Dave.

He's a very good player no doubt, but people said when Sturridge and Gerrard were out that we were doing well and only get better on their return.

The reality was that Rodgers with too many choices available fucked up against Villa. I've every faith in Moyes ability to do the same.

I think he meant his mate Dave, who also gave him pyar info about Moses.

But thanks Pete. You gots my back bro, much love.
