A very serious Mata

I love it. Mata is off to Utd and people start imploding. Yes, Mata would be good with RVP and Rooney. But so is Coutinho with Suarez and Sturridge....

But we're not top of the league. See where I'm going with this yet?

They need a left back and a right back who stays on the pitch. At least two centre backs cos Vidic and Ferdinand are done and several top class midfielders.

Let them buy Mata. He's not going to solve their worst malaise.

And then when they buy another great player we can say the same thing, "he won't fix all of their problems" and so on until suddenly they have a team of really good players. I wonder how that happened.

It's okay to say that this is shit. We don't have to put a brave face on things all the time, ya'know!

And similarly it's not quite the end of the world. They were never going to start shopping at the other end of the market because things have been going badly for a few months.

I don't think the Glazer's give a flying fuck about the football team, they are solely motivated by greed and I think the decrease in value of their asset will cause them to cut expenditure and take the "moneyball" route in the hope they can improve the value of their asset "on the cheap".

Only 10% of United shares are publicly available - and those are ones that the Glazers cashed in.

So I'm not sure their value is being affected that much at all

Other than market perception making easy headlines and stories for journalists, could it not be used as a bargaining chip when trying to determine any valuation when they do eventually try and sell?

Not that that would make any difference now given that they're probably unlikely to sell for a while.

It could be, but for the same reason as you I don't think it's important.

And the other thing is the minute a takeover is mooted those shares will rise again

It's being widely reported that £250m has been wiped off the value of United shares in recent months; it shouldn't make any difference whether or not these are publicly available or owned by the Glazers either way their asset is worth considerably less and if they fail to qualify for the Champions league it will be worth less again.

My non-accountant take on things is that the falling asset price coupled with falling income streams will make the Glazers unwilling to spend big anytime soon after spending £60m on Fellaini & Mata. I hope I'm right because, living in Manchester for the last 22 years, I've dreamed of United becoming shite and I'm loving every fucking minute of it 🙂

Great thread title.

I'm not worried about mata utd are gone. Spurs and Everton worry me more.

I'm not putting a brave face on things. I don't want him to go there, but he is. But looking at it objectively, the position that Mata fills is not their biggest priority when you consider that they have an ageing midfield and CB's. I think its a bit of a gamble for them, because if they don't make the CL then that puts their revenue streams at risk which puts more pressure on the interest on the debt they are paying off.

Its not catastrophic, but its not a good situation.

Anyway, I get the feeling that Mata is to appease the fans a bit and if he fails...

Falling income streams will clearly affect spending.

Jon, buying Mata might help them jump over us into 4th and claim the last CL spot. It might paper over the cracks til the summer. Mata is an exceptional player. I hate when exceptional players sign for United.

Arguably Mata, Rooney and RVP are a better front three than Coutinho, Sturridge and Suarez also.

But we're never in a million years going to spend that money on Mata so it's a moot point. And if we did have the money I think our top 4 / title chances would be improved by strengthening other areas on with proven quality.

At least for the moment our trio is healthy and match fit. I'm hoping Mata has a bit of a bedding in period before he makes an impact.

I'm glad you & Jon (the other one, obv) keep saying this, cos I think I'm going insane at times.

It's not our main problem, (but scoring more goals always helps, and would lead to more points), but it is a problem for United, and Mata should help them massively in that regard. They are going to be a much more serious challenger for fourth place. Is that not the point?

Let's concern ourselves with what we need to do to stay above them and get into the top 4. They have a fucked back four that needs completely rebuilding. They have a shit midfield. They have Danny Wellbeck. They have Moyes. Fuck them.
This is the same hysterical bollocks as when Arse signed that bog-eyed fella.
They will always buy big. Whether those big buys work out is another matter.

I know we didn't have the money for Mata but that doesn't mean i'm okay with him going to United, one of our biggest rivals for 4th. I'm fuming Chelsea are selling him to United. Flog him abroad FFS.

Are people forgetting how good Mata is? If Arsenal were to sell Ozil to United would people care? I would.
I'm worried Mata will paper over the cracks for United until the summer when they can strengthen again.

I'm not being hysterical btw. Ha. Just fuming over this deal. I really like Mata as a player. Pissed off he's going to United.

Agree with all of that.
