A very serious Mata

Arguably Mata, Rooney and RVP are a better front three than Coutinho, Sturridge and Suarez also.

And therein lies the problem; names on a page are one thing, how they are set-up to perform on the pitch is another.

United's problem for the last 6 months isn't that they haven't had Juan fucking Mata. The same squad that's sitting 6th (or wherever they are) and 7 million points off Man city - because let's not forget that very same squad won the league last year - it's that their manager doesn't know how to set them up appropriately to win games.

This is one fucking trillion billion zillion per cent the impact tactics, shape and formation have on a team. Do not for one fucking second think that this nuanced bullshit you hear about "tatics being irrelevent" is true, because this United side are a case study for the ages on what altering shape and approach can do to materially impact a side's output in a matter of months. They've gone from 1st to mid-table dirge with the same group of players.

Spending 40 million pounds on Juan fucking Mata and painting pretty triangular pictures on an internet forum of what he, Van Persie and Rooney would look like on a theoretical football pitch will not stop 1) their back four playing in a flatter line than they've done since Tommy Docherty was in charge, 2) their full-backs not being allowed to wander up the pitch, 3) the enormous gap between their stationary flat midfield and strikers, 3) them defaulting to getting shape in their own half of the pitch when they lose the ball as opposed to charging forward under Ferguson and pinning sides into their own half, 4) their manager from becoming a conservative, risk-free operator.

Has anyone watched them play? They sit in their own half, constantly in shape, living under fear that they'll venture out of the standard operating system that their ultra-negative new Manager has fucking drilled into them. Have a look at how Everton operated for the last 10 years; there's a reason why they shit themselves anytime they came up against someone decent - because they weren't allowed to play. And now they're a free-flowing side that can go to Arsenal and come away with a result after taking them on. Turns out they have footballers in that squad after all. Who knew? Not Moyes anyway.

Which was the very thing Ferguson gave that same group of players that Moyes now has under his tutelage; the freedom to attack and to take the game on.

Buying Juan Mata is putting lipstick on a pig. So long as that Manager is in charge they'll look feasibly great on paper, but will be the same plodding rigid boxed Everton-in-red-shirts pretenders that they are right now.

This guy couldn't get output out of Mikel Arteta and Ross Barkley - in fact he barely even gave them the chance. Why is it going to be any different with Mata? Moyes doesn't know any other way.

I desperately want to believe you Ryan, but I'm too young to be able to believe Utd can fuck up so far. To put it simple, they're just too big to continue failing in such drastic manner.

They won't win anything with him but they will beat alot of sides they have been losing to

I agree Ryan. But Mata might help them push us all the way for 4th now. He isn't going to solve their plethora of problems. No one is saying that. He might however act as a catalyst to drive them into 4th at our expense.

Or he might put Rooney out of position and cause him to huff.

Why the fuck would you go to Man U for surely there were more teams after him than scum.
He'll be quality for them..

Oddly, there isn't that many options for Mata.

He is ex Madrid and they don't seem to bring back players ala Barca. Barca don't seem to be in the market for anyone and don't anyone else in Spain can afford him.

PSG and Bayern can but are fully stocked and he wouldn't be guarenteed a starting spot every weekend. He can't play CL and they seem to be winning their leagues with ease so they aren't motivated to make a move for him.

Chelsea won't sell to Arsenal or City, direct rivals for the title this season so United is the obvious choice. Mata is probably happy to go to United. They can afford him and pay his wages. He gets to play for six months to cement his inclusion in Spain's WC squad and perhap. Win Win.

I might go over onto facebook and make a couple more shit pens joke in that case.

id like us to swoop in with a last minute deal for salah, which means chelsea dont sell mata, then rooneys desire to buy grannie hookers and to show his dissatisfaction with the manager forces him to rent out his giant fuck off head as advertising space for paddy power who proceed to put a new 'moyes out' advert on him each week

I'm just repeating what I heard on "Sky News." The deal is done, just the medical to come tomorrow.

Yes he's signed but he still has to have his medical before the deal is complete.

Great, this means that there's still the possibility of Ayre kidnapping him before he reaches Cobham, on his motorbike and hijack the deal.

Dan Kennett ‏@DanKennett 8m Mata €8m net a season????? That's c£12m gross and puts Suarez's new deal in the shade!
