A very serious Mata

Jon, buying Mata might help them jump over us into 4th and claim the last CL spot. It might paper over the cracks til the summer. Mata is an exceptional player. I hate when exceptional players sign for United.

I'm not disagreeing that he is an excellent player. But as stated previously, I think that their issues like in other areas of the team - a bit like us. No good scoring two if you concede 2 or more.

How's Mata going to sign a contract with all those shit pens at old toilet?

Shamelessly robbed from facebook.

They have conceded one goal less than us and two more than city.
But they have scored 17 goals less than us and 27 less than city.

I agree their issues lie in other areas of the team but I still don't want them to sign Juan Mata.

I can't do anything about it but i'm a bit miffed with it.

On a side note, what is motivating Mourinho to sell Mata to United? Why bother? I've compiled some potential reasons below. Is it one or a combination of all of them?

- Mata isn't a threat to Mourinho this season, Chelsea have played United twice and Mata can't play in the CL. Mata won't propel united into a title challenge either. They are too far back.
- Chelsea are getting a lot of money for a player Mourinho doesn't want to use for his first team.
- A sly dig at united, labelling them a non threat.
- An agreement to get Rooney in the summer.
- An agreement to avoid other potential transfers (Barkley, Shaw etc)

- Mata has an injury that United aren't aware of
- Mata has some off the field problems that United aren't aware of
- Mourinho is arrogant, and believes he knows best, and is trying to prove it

Why is that? Is it because their premier players like Rooney and RVP have been injured or out of form perhaps? There's a reason they are 6 points behind us and have lost 5 out of the last 6.

Their central midfield consists of Fletcher (will he ever come back to his previous form?), Cleverley (hahahaha!), Carrick (old and now picks up niggly injuries and is snail like) and Jones (what is his best position?).

Their back four consists of Smalling (still young and could make it) Evans (really??) Ferdinand (finished), Vidic (31 and wants out and is a liability).

Their two main full backs are Evra - leaving, and Rafael - total liability.

Up front or creatively shall we say, they have Rooney - could leave, RVP - unsettled if the rumours are true and getting old, Januzjar - looks a real star, Hernandez - only plays a bit part, Welbeck - bambi on ice and has never looked the part of a top class striker, Valencia - hit and miss.

Juan Mata is a top drawer player. No disputing that whatsoever, but its a gamble for me given the crumbling defence and the central midfield issues they have.

Yeah, obviously if we concede less we'll more than likely do better. The same goes for scoring more.

This is going around in circles.

Anyone who improves our chances of conceding less, or scoring more is a good buy. We should be looking for both types of players, as long as they are better than what we already have.

I agree in theory though if we are having to spend from a limited budget then we might need to prioritize what position we strengthen.

Easier said than done, we could spend all January looking for a LB, and not get one, or get someone shit. In fact, when we target a position, that's what tends to happen. We end up with a shit stop-gap.

I think we should get the best players available, for what ever position. If we get a DM and and a LB great, but if it's an attacking player, that'd be great too. As long as they're better than what we have, I don't care what position they play.

This was my point aswell earlier in the thread. 65 mill spent on two players that havent adressed their issues.
There is no guarantee that they'll get top drawer players this summer for the positions they need to adress.

Rumours ( Twitter. I know!) that Bayern have bid for him. Wouldnt that be fun what with the helicopter landing pad and all.

Ha. It'd be boss if Bayern nicked him.

He'll go to Utd though.

They're not a threat to Chelsea & he'll help take points from Chelsea's rivals.

Meanwhile, in the summer Rooney will go the other way.

It's a win win for Mourinho imo.

Also, it means that he doesn't believe Utd will seriously challenge for the League in the next couple of years. That is a good thing.

They didn't spend much in the summer and their revenue is around twice ours.
37m won't be a problem at all for them. They can easily recruit players for other positions in the summer.
Them having Mata is bad news.

Mata to United is dreadful for us - they can very easily come back into the race for 4th. Please also bid Bayern!

It would be hilarious if Bayern put a last minute bid to take him, just to get back for the European cup final.

It was always inevitable that United would attempt to make marquee signings in an effort to re-establish themselves as a top side. I don't see the point in getting agitated about that when it happens. Mata is a good player but I don't believe that one player is enough to solve their problems which go deeper than that.

He can't help Bayern in the CL as he'd be cup tied so there's no reason why they wouldn't sell him there.
