I fucking love Kevin Nolan!

I hate him, my treble this weekend was leeds 6/4 sunderland 12/5 and Newcastle tomorrow.

Whats worse is I was playing a match whilst this was on and one of the guys who had come off told me at the end it had finished one nil to Sunderland!

Pesam, thanks for this thread - I keep up with it without posting.

On a slightly seperate note - what do you make of Jacob Mellis at Barnsley? I've caught a few of their games this year and he looks a player.

He's an interesting one Ryan and has caught my eye in recent weeks. He's taken over the role that Jacob Butterfield had there last season i.e. free-ranging midfielder with very few defensive responsibilities and although I've only seen him twice he seems as if he could rival Zaha (Palace) and Ince (Blackpool) as the next BIG thing from the division.

I was a big fan of Butterfields last season (Norwich signed him in the summer but he's been injured ever since) and the Barnsley manager Keith Hill turned him into an excellent prospect and seems to be doing the same with Mellis.

I was talking to a few friends about up-and-coming players in the lower divisions at the weekend and I re-iterated my view that; if a player looks really good at the 2nd division level there's every chance that they'll make the grade at the 1st Division and Championship levels BUT the only way of knowing if a player is going to be good enough for the EPL is to take a risk sign him and give him his chance.

Michael Chopra, Curtis Davies, David Nugent, Jason Scotland etc, etc are examples of players who shone at one-stage-or-another in The Championship but couldn't make the step up whereas I've seen Mike Williamson, Bradley Johnson, Ricky lambert, Grant Holt, etc I've seen play in the 2nd division, knew they could play a higher level but truth be told I didn't think any of them would perform well in the EPL.

If I had to predict one of Mellis, Zaha or Ince to "make it" in the EPL it would still be Zaha but it wouldn't surprise me too much if he flopped and Mellis was the real gem.

How's your betting going this season?

Half time Bradford 0-2 Burton....................£10 lay of Burton winning in 90 minutes to win £40

Going ok, I needed a draw in the Utd game on Sunday for a huge return - so was disappointed with that one I can tell you.

Overall i'm about $400 up which is about 250 quid so can't complain too much. Notts County have been good to me all year!

Cheers for the update on Mellis. As I say, I've only seen him once or twice but he looks a talent. your point about the lack of defensive responsibility he's got is huge. Any cunt can look good in the number 10 role picking out passes all day long if they onl;y have to work one way. I'll keep an eye on him though.

I'm less bullish about Ince. I'm not sure why tbh, i think it's a mixture of his arrogance, attitude, and a nagging impression I've been left with that he's a bit one-trick. I hate seeing chumps like him swanning around in Division 1 like he's Ronaldo. Wait til you've done something on a stage someone recognises. Reminds me of Ebanks-Blake 3 years ago when he banged in 25 in rhe championship and strutted around like a peacock. He followed it up in the premier league with 2 goals or something like that – both penalties.

Don’t get me wrong, Ince has more talent than Blake but he’s got a long way to go.

I agree about Ince, I mentioned him because he is "flavour of the month" at the moment but my gut feeling is he's a Championship player at best. There's a lad called Danny Green who struggles to get into the Charlton team at times (he plays wide right) and I'd be more confident of him succeeding in the EPL than the 3 I mentioned previously BUT "his problem" is that he's on a different wavelength to most of the players he plays with and I reckon he'll be more effective in the EPL than he is in The Championship! I doubt he'll ever make it to the EPL though because nobody's gonna take a chance on a player who can't always get into the Charlton team.

Notts County look very good this season, Curle has assembled a very talented squad with lots of goal threat. If they strengthen the defence by January I reckon they could get an automatic promotion spot.

All this talk of potential talent has reminded me that I must post an update in the thread about other teams in other leagues on the Football Forum.

Was thinking that too. We should have a lower leagues thread that we just bump everytime we want to talk about shit.

Sunderland are too big at evens at home to Wigan imo. I know they haven't won in 12 but were so close last week. Just need a Sessegnon or McClean or Larsson to start chipping in with the odd goal again and they will be fine.
Newcastle are crazy price at 6/4 away to Reading, as I just think that Reading are terrible Pogrebnyak aside that is.
Apart from that, my lesser fancies would be Arsenal to beat Chelsea at 13/10. In fact I quite fancy them but Chelsea just have so much attacking talent you have to beware them.
I also think Liverpool ourselves are a touch too big at almost even money.
Had fancied Fulham vs City but Berb is now injured so won't go near them.

Rotherham to beat Oxford
Hull minus a goal to beat Peterborough
Bolton at home should do Palace
And wolves.

£30 lay of Orient beating Donny to win £20
£12 Walsall towin at Bournemouth to win £44
£20 Barnet to win at Fleetwood to win £160

Slim picking today, very little worth betting on.........hopefully a few opportunities might arise at half time.

Had a double on NZ and Sri Lanka wins today.

You've just got to love betfair, they void bets when a game is tied (I've had 2 tied matches during the cricket world cup). Every other site i've used would have counted that as a 'lost bet'.

£3 on QPR 3-3 West Ham to win £237. Just as I placed the bet West Ham take the lead 0-1.
