Will we qualify ?

A win against Spurs + draw at Old Trafford and 73 points should be sufficient to get 4th

Mancs on 40 points, 15 games left, 10 wins and a few draws gets them 73, in the past no problem for them but its no given nowadays.

They have won 12 out of 23 so far, so about half their games, they will need to up it to 2/3rds for the remaining games if they are to stand a chance.

Their next 5 PL games are interesting as 4 of them are away and then they play us.

Stoke A
Fulham H
Arsenal A
Palace A
West Brom A
Liverpool H

The only real gimme there is Fulham, i hope Arsenal can give them a kicking, the others wont be walk overs either, maybe West Brom, Palace and Stoke should test them defensively for sure, sure i read somewhere the other day the mancs have conceded the most goals from headers and crosses in the league this season.

Actually wasn't that us ?!

EDIT : Yes it is. From Binny's Stats :
29 per cent of the goals Liverpool have conceded have been headers; the highest proportion of any team in the top flight this season.

We have a bit of a gap now, especially when you add in the point for goal difference since ours looks to be unassailable by any of the other contenders. Makes it 4 points on Spurs, 7 on Utd.

The highest points total to miss out on 4th was achieved by Spurs last season which was 72.

We've been averaging about 2 points per game for pretty much the whole season, that will give us a total of 76 points if we keep it up which should be more than enough. 9 wins, 3 draws and 3 loses or something like that seems well within our capabilities. United could only drop 8 points if they were to overtake us in that case which seems pretty unlikely. I think they pretty much have to beat us if they are to have any chance of catching us.

Having said all that I'm not taking anything for granted and won't consider those motherfuckers out of the race until it's mathematically impossible.

My opinion would change very quickly if Gerrard built on his Everton performance. My faith in the midfield would increase a lot

I think Man Utd will qualify at our expense. God just has to butt fuck us at some point here, surely?

We are favourites for 4th now, according to the bookies at least and Im inclined to agree. There has been a big hoopla over signing Mata but he doesnt address their real problems and they are conceding far too many goals this season. Added to that they would need to put together the sort of winning run that only championship winning sides are capable of

Zaha and Fabio going out on loan to Cardiff, Anderson loaned to Fiorentina, Nani rumoured to be going out on loan with option of permanent transfer (with Spurs being the latest club to be linked). A couple of injuries could cost problems, especially in defence. Interesting to see if they add to their squad, given the no. of departures.

He certainly signed Joe Cole; think he also drew up a list of players to sell for Hodgson. Lucas was on it.

Purslow was and still is a massive bellend.

He might not have known his football, but "massive bellend"? He had a massive hand in stopping us going under, but yeah, lets all have a moan because he put Lucas on the transfer list.

Fans exasperate me at times, between everyone moaning because we haven't just signed "anyone", to then start going overboard about a Ukranian they hadn't heard of a week ago. It's an impossible task being on the heirarchy of a top club, because you're always going to have fans laying into you for anything and everything. Two days ago everyone was laying into the club because someone reported that Spurs had bid 500k more than we had for this Ukranian lad, without even knowing the ins and outs.

Not having a go at you but attitudes towards people who've bailed us out on enough occasions and done alot of good for the club, really fucks me off. Same goes for attitudes towards the owners aswell.

People need to seriously look at where we were a few years back, and where we are now and how much money we've spent.

I still feel we'll fall painfully short. Everton look good, so I would say they are our main rivals. Spurs are absolutely shite but somehow still up there, and Man Utd's attacking power cannot be ruled out completely despite them playing at the Theatre of Lolz at the moment.

so going by the averages we need 24 pts from 42 . We're currently on course for 74-75 points . Let's see .

Everton will fade aswell I hope. Think Spurs will beat them as they're on a downwards form and performance level.
Would be ace if we managed to beat Arsenal on saturday. Then I'd start to feel a bit more confident.

We need at least a draw on Saturday thanks to our embarrassment yesterday. Unfortunately I cant see us getting anything.

Id say it will be 74 points for 4th this season, its so competitive that whoever nicks it is going to be pushed all the way to the wire. We will need to keep taking 2 points per game to achieve that and thats about the rate we have been collecting them all season so if we can hold our nerve over the next 14 games I reckon we will do it. Utd would need a phenomenal run of form to get near 74 points and they have some really tough fixtures. Everton are going great but you have to imagine they will wobble at some point. Spurs I cant quite figure out, when they play badly they lose by 5 goals and then win the next two games on the bounce.

We have two aces up our sleeve at this point, nearly all our tough matches are at home, and our goal difference is so much better than the others its worth an extra point. No disguising the missed opportunity this weekend but we are still in the driving seat. If Chelsea receive the compulsory pummeling away to City tonight we could still close in on them for 3rd.

Well the more away games we drop points in, the more onus is put on us to win our home games, and given some of the opposition we having coming up at home, it's going to be a tall order.

I'll start breathing a little bit easier once those Manc fuckers are dumped out if the Champions League.

It would just be like us to finish 4th, & they win the champions league.

We won't get a draw if we keep shooting ourselves in the foot.

That's the difference between Arsenal/Chelsea and ourselves at the moment.

We need to win our home games and we'll get through to the top 4. Beat the top teams and we can push further up the table. Chelsea is not far off and a realistic target for us.
