Nicked from the official, but I thought it'd make a good poll. I've added the extra option of 'None of the above', to be more realistic.

Which of Liverpool's young hopefuls do you think will follow in the footsteps of Emiliano Insua and gain regular first-team football in 2009-10?
The club's reserve and youth ranks are brimming with raw talent - and we've selected eight of the best for you to choose from.

Vote now>>

1. Daniel Pacheco: Big things are expected of this former Barcelona prodigy, who made quite an impression with the senior stars last pre-season. Cited by Benitez as a potential first-teamer when Robbie Keane was sold, 2009-10 could be the breakthrough year for Pacheco.

2. Krisztian Nemeth: Injury curtailed the Hungarian's progress last term but there's no doubt he knows where the net is. His style, according to former reserves boss Gary Ablett, is similar to Kenny Dalglish.

3. Lauri Dalla Valle: The star of our FA Youth Cup run last season, the Finn bagged 20 goals in all competitions for the U18s. Clubs around Europe wanted him, and the 17-year-old actually spent three months at Inter Milan before eventually choosing Liverpool.

4. Christopher Buchtmann: One of the most talented players to grace the Academy league last term, the left-back cum winger was also a star among Germany's triumphant European U17 Championship team in May.

5. Jay Spearing: The energetic midfielder had a monopoly on man-of-the-match for the reserves last term, and heard the Kop sing his name for the first time during an impressive cameo against Real Madrid.

6. Stephen Darby: The Scouser has performed consistently at every level so far in his career and many believe he would make an able deputy to Alvaro Arbeloa.

7. Mikel San Jose: One of a host of talented centre-backs waiting in the wings, San Jose could benefit from Sami Hyypia's departure from Anfield. Has represented Spain U21s.

8. Martin Kelly: Those in the know believe this England U19 international has what it takes to play top flight football one day. The centre-back, who can also play on the right, spent the second half of 2008-09 on loan at Huddersfield, where he earned high praise from assistant boss Terry McDermott.

I went for Kelly because there is a gap in the squad for a central defender now that Hyypia has left. Kelly has both talent and a good physique to warrant an opportunity in the team.

Nemeth may play a few games and Darbo also.

I don't think we'll any major breakthroughs

I voted Nemeth, purely because he's the one reserve we've had in recent seasons who has made me go 'Wow'. Obviously last season was a bit of a write-off for him, and now N'gog - and possibly a new striker - will start ahead of him in the queue, but... I dunno, I just have a feeling he'll make it. As long as he can stop himself getting injured.

keep your eye on Saric, he's been injured forever but he has the right build. most of these players are weaklings at the moment

i think Darby is the most likely to get games, whether he will be a breakthrough star is anybodies guess, Id love to see Nemeth get a few sub appearances

Who voted Buchtmann? Could you explain why?

[/quote]

I didnt vote for him, but my guess is that the explanation is: Christopher Buchtmann: One of the most talented players to grace the Academy league last term, the left-back cum winger was also a star among Germany's triumphant European U17 Championship team in May.

From what I've seen of Darby in his CL cameo's, he's as competent defensively as Arbeloa and I'd have no issues with him making the step up into that cover role.

They're the best bunch we've had for years, so I hope several get a few chances. None will become a regular that quickly, though. Dalla Valle looked very promising last season. Spearing is very versatile, but his lack of height tends to undermine that. Pacheco has the most skill but he's facing the toughest challenge in a position that demands great speed of thought as well as exceptional tactical nous. Darby, for me, is the most 'old Liverpool' - a really reliable 'steady Eddie' who is very mature and disciplined and won't let anyone down. I think he's got the most realistic chance.

None of them has made me go 'wow'.

A 'wow' is when a young Brazilian Ronaldo, Messi, Pato, Stevie G, Zidane burst onto the scenes.

I chose none of the above although a special mention has to go out to Pacheco.

Out of them all, he has the most skills and potential to make it big time. But I wouldn't say he's special as in gifted. He's v talented tho', no doubt bout that.

whassapend to Bruna?

Shite.

I voted none, but I refuse to believe that Spearing couldn't have done a better job than Lucas last season. He's a tidy and creative player- and ok, he's a dwarf, but he's much more tenacious than Lucas. I'd really like him to be used more regularly next season.

Nemeth is a talented boy, and physically ready (other than injuries) so I hope he gets a few chances this season, and hopefully Pacheco too.

Excellent post, spot on on all fronts

Spanish club Xerez are set to make a bid for young Liverpool striker Daniel Pacheco this summer, according to reports in the Spanish radio.

Xerez, who gained promotion to the Spanish Primera División, will make a move for the 18-year old in coming weeks.

Manager Esteban Vigo has been keeping an eye on the Spanish starlet last season and is keen on bringing Pacheco to the club.

Pacheco is more than happy at Liverpool however, Xerez are ready to pay up to £5million for the youngster, which may tempt Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez.

The striker has not yet featured in a competitive game for the Anfield club and has only featured in pre-season friendlies.

When is the last time an 18 year old played "somewhat" regularly for us?
I've heard a lot of good things about Pacheco and I've seen him in some pre season friendlies but is he really that good?

Hammill focused on Anfield future

Liverpool winger Adam Hammill sees his long-term future at Anfield despite reported interest from Bolton, Wolves and West Bromwich Albion.

The 21-year-old signed a three-year contract with the Reds last summer but went on to spend the season on loan at Blackpool and Barnsley.

"I'd love to go back and be around the first-team set-up," Hammill told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"I'm still learning and hopefully I'll be learning at Liverpool next year."

Hammill has spent the last two seasons on loan, gaining valuable first-team experience in the process and his spell at Oakwell last term saw him play a key role in Barnsley's escape from relegation.

"It's been really beneficial for me to go out and learn both aspects of the game, defensively and also going forward," Hammill said.

"I was in teams, which weren't doing to well so it was about tracking back with your man but then I was allowed to express myself going forward.

"Overall I've had a good season, I've learnt a lot and I can take that into next season," added Hammill.

Hammill remains open to the possibility of spending a third season on loan but admits an ideal scenario would see him in Rafa Benitez's first-team squad for the coming campaign.

"I'll go back in July and speak with the management. Whatever they think is best I'll obviously take them up on their offer.

"Being a local lad I'd love to get a taste (of the first-team) but if they think I need to go away for another six months or a year then obviously I'll do that," said Hammill.

Both, but I think he prefers the left so he can come inside. He was excellent for that Scottish team, but seemed to have a mixed time at Blackpool.

Seconded, especially where Nemeth is concerned.
