Hendo or Moses?

One of those will make way for Luis surely

Hate this quality squad problem. I want to play all of them.

Id agree with ltw.

Hendo was a standout player last night; Gerrard was ball watching and subsequently caught napping far often, either change his position and style or drop him.

Of the first two named, Moses definitely. He faded in the second half IMO and may be best used as an impact sub for the moment. The choice may be made for us if Coutinho isn't fit enough by the time Luis is available again though.

You can't be serious about that "hating" bit.

Yeah I agree with @Judge Jules bring Moses on as an impact sub. I can imagine Suarez and Coutinho together will give teams a right head ache.

It will depend. Our front 4 isn't going to be carved in stone. The most offensively threatening is clearly:

---------------Studge

Moses-----Coutinho--------Suarez

Hendo needs to get minutes in CM with SG getting a bit of bench time. SG is a brilliant impact sub, and I think he needs to be used like that for a while.

Henderson's energy is vital for us. He is often the only player pressing the opposition.

Suarez will play in one of the forward positions. Don't care what his starting position is, he will move all over. As will Coutinho. Moses will probably lose out initially but he will be rotated as the season goes on. Don't forget injuries and fatigue will take it's toll also.

Sturridge, Suarez, Coutinho and Gerrard automatically play for me. We work the rest around that quartet.

Moses off the bench could be an extra matchwinner for us. It's nice bringing on a sub with a hint of optimism that he could get us a goal.

Henderson should probably be on the pitch ahead of Gerrard ...

This is a bit of a problem, Hendo is playing better than Gerrard, but Gerrard is the captain. Captain isn't ever going to get dropped unless he's injured. The front 4 should be Suarez/Sturridge/Moses/Coutinho and Hendo somewhere deserves his place, but he wont, he'll be dropped.

Hendo should be in tight 3 midfield with SG and Lucas

Then let courtinho, studge and Luis interchange as they please.

For a start, Moses has only played 1 game. It's too early to judge. JJ has it spot on.

The other thing is, I reckon it'll be very seldom we'll have a full choice. There's always going to be one of them injured, not match-fit or suspended.

--------------------Mignolet

------------Toure--Skrtel--Sakho
----------------------Lucas
--------------Stevie-------Hendo
Moses------------------------------Coutinho
---------------------Suarez

---------------------Studge

We may have a solution to the brick wall we hit at 60 mins here. I'll let Rodgers know.

Start : Suarez, Sturridge, Countinho, Gerrard

After 60 mins : Suarez, Sturridge, Moses, Henderson.

--------------------Mignolet

------------Toure--Skrtel--Sakho
----------------------Lucas
--------------Stevie-------Hendo
Moses------------------------------Coutinho
---------------------Suarez

---------------------Studge

Forcing Round Pegs into Square Holes comes to mind.

Do you think Hendo could play the deep lying midfielder and wouldn't that negate his biggest asset, namely his energy?

--------------------Mignolet

------------Toure--Skrtel--Sakho
----------------------Lucas
--------------Stevie-------Hendo
Moses------------------------------Coutinho

We might be a bit knackered if the opposition try and run down the right hand side of the pitch with that formation mate.

I'd only like to see if Agger and Johnson aren't fit. Sakho and Toure look after the flanks with Lucas becoming the fourth defender when the opposition have the ball. I don't see how it's round pegs/square holes at all. Moses played on the right for Wigan and Chelsea while Coutinho has arguably played his best football for us thus far from the left. The rest are in suitable positions. I think it could work. Bit tight on Enrique though.

Well you said nothing about Johnson/Agger and changed our established back 4 into a 3 simply to accommodate Moses and Henderson. So yes, what I said. It's a little different if you now add provisos.

The "established back four" changes all the time. It's a bit of a lame attempt to pick holes in my suggestion. These type of threads are all hypothetical anyway, so yeah I changed the formation to suit a more attacking team. What's your point? The team would be capable of function so ergo, square pegs/round holes my ring piece.

Yep, I like Henderson but under no circumstances should he be replacing Gerrard.

Gerrard shouldn't be playing 90 minutes every game at this stage of career. That isn't a reflection on his quality, it is just nature. Was Scholes playing 90 mins week-in, week-out for Ginsoak aged 33? He was getting about 70 mins, and that meant he could play to his full potential for that time. Gerrard cannot be playing 90 mins every week.

Well I think he can, potentially, but only if he shows a bit more intelligence. The sports science team have worked superbly with him, so I don't think there's a major fitness problem, but he's behaving quite oddly at times.A great captain can be valuable on the pitch even when he's under-performing himself. Gerrard contributes nothing as a leader when he's out of sorts. He's got huge experience and he should have been organising the team yesterday in the second half, but he went into his shell. Even Carra and Hamman sounded a bit exasperated by him last night. I don't what's up with him but he needs to use his brain as well as his body and provide this team with some leadership. If he does that then he can wander about all he likes as far as I'm concerned, he can still help the team.

All this bullshit about Gerrard. He had a crap game. He was a fucking beast against Man U.

Jesus fucking Christ.

Yep. That's more than fair enough. He was very, very good against Man United and Aston Villa too. Sure he's not the Gerrard of old, but he's still a very good player. He needs to fucking retire from the international game after the World Cup though.

He wasn't good last night, like he was poor against Notts County, and people are perfectly entitled to discuss that. It's not some shameful act of betrayal.
