Having watched the Reserve-game from last night here's a few keypoints;
Mavinga's got pace to burn. Is a big lad too who'll win his fair share of headers. Looks a real prospect to me.
Irwin was industrious in central midfield but isn't any bigger than Spearing. He hit a few 'Gerrard-passes' as well. Good cameo.
Victor Palsson was moved back into central defense and he looked very composed besides one rash challenge. (Mavinga was lucky not to concede a peno as well btw).
The suprise of the evening for me was the class of our injury-ridden Hungarian loanie, Poloskei (sp). Doesn't sound to exotic and he sure does look a bit awkward outthere (he's a big lad) but he oozes class really. He's pacy, can take people on and has got a quite a shot in him too. He got injured (evidently) towards the end so that may be it, but he was a real surprise. He reminded me a bit like Hamann, just with more pace and flair.
Eccleston looked like a different player to most on the park - especially in the first half. He's quick, well-balanced and never affraid of taking on defenders. He faded slightly after the break when moved out as a winger but he looks like another good prospect.
Saric started rusty but made amends with some beautiful skills and touches in the second half. One incident in particular where he nutmegged two Evertonians and then passed the perfect through-ball - Laudrup-esque I might add (looking to one side and passing the other) - to Browyer who sadly didn't make the best of it. When subbed towards the very end he flashed a pulsebelt and it's obvious he's still gaining some much needed match-fitness after having spend the most of last year injured.
All in all a very good display by the young lads and even though Everton missed a penalty, we looked almost twice as good as the home team.
Only players who failed to impress me was Threllfall, Gulacsi (keeperman) and to some point Kacaniklic and Amoo. The latter does seem to have improved his touch rapidly he just didn't make that much of it last night.
NB Nicolaj Køhlert, a 16-year-old Dane, got his debut last night playing the last 5 minutes or so. The attacking midfielder has apparently impressed for the U-18s.
