To be fair to Carroll, Rami made a two footed tackle only seconds before that incident. That could have ended very very badly for big andy. Rami had it coming for being an idiot.

Look at all this "he had it coming" shit.

It was a fucking woeful tackle and is completely indefensible. Remember that Europa league tie last season when some portugeser or something committed a disgusting lunge on Carroll and everyone roared on here for fucking weeks about it? What goes around.

Heh. Did you see the game Ryan? Did you see Ramis tackle seconds before?
Had it connected properly Carroll would have broken his leg.

And the lunge on Carroll was an elbow.

Here's a link of Downing's moments. He looked good down the left with Fabio behind him. They could work very together, both clever with classy left feet. Here's hoping. Downing looks like he can really move to.

Disclaimer : I'm trying to be positive about Downing. He has my support anyway.

No one has mentioned his pace after seeing him in action have they? Cant believe some actually said he was slow before we signed him.

He has all the attributes to make it, and there seem to be a understanding developing with Carroll. I for one really hope he makes it, and Im pretty sure that he will.

Andy's goal - I loved it. Pace, power, confidence, the follow-up strike, the fact that it wasn't 'a typical Andy Carroll' goal. He's going to score shed loads for us if he stays fit.

The most important thing is that he's got that ability to make himself that yard of space to put the ball in and his delivery was consistently good, always into the danger area between the keeper and his defence.

Yep, nice little home debut for Downing. Impressed by it. If he perform against Sunderland he'll have me swayed.

I've decides that this season all of our shit players will be boss, Joe Coles gona get shit loads of assists and maxi and ngog will get tons of goals between them. Poolsons always gna be shit though

I said a few days ago, we're gonna all love Downing in the coming months. Top player, top bloke, top banana.

Just watched the Downing clip from the game (didn't get to watch the whole game).
Very impressed and it's EXACTLY what we've been missing in our team since Macca left us.

I was unimpressed with his signing but I'm actually feeling very optimistic about him. If Downing and Suarez/Kuyt/Carroll can get good understanding between them, that left boot's going to create a ton of goals for us this season.

Downing will be signing of the season and im happy we got him ahead of young even though i prefered us signing young before he went united.

I've also been impressed with Downing despite my initial reaction to the transfer (fee and all).
It's somehow comparable to when Riera joined. We're seeing something we've been missing for years.

That's not the most optimistic of comparisons.

I believe Riera's character was what made his career at Anfield end the way it did.
I believe Downing's character is much superior.
Oh, and Rafa is not there this time... 😉

Not comparing the players, it's more about our reaction.

That was the most half-hearted attempt at a headbutt I've ever seen by your man on Big Andy after the 'tackle'.
[/quote]

You can't blame him though. Have you seen how big "Big Andy" is? He is a proper unit!

I mean that genuinely. I've seen people on here saying how slow he is, but I think he just looks it coz he's a massive lumbering galoot. He's actually quick as fuck

He's quick with the ball at his feet. That's why i loved his goal yesterday. Pace, power the lot.

I've had the pace argument on here a million times, if you weren't Cisse quick you were slow, according to a few posters. I don't think he's 'fast', but neither is Rooney, or Gerrard, but over the first couple of yards he's got enough pace and power to get ahead of the defender and get a shot away.

Yep, he has got a bit of pace that lad. He's starting to look just as fit as he did last season when he tore every defender a new one for Newcastle.

If he stays injury free he's in for a great season. Built like house of bricks and must be one of the worst strikers to be up against. Imagine having Gerrardvand Suarez roaming next to him aswell.

I'm tempted to put bluey on him getting sent off.

The bad: Carroll puts in a dangerous tackle on Valencia's Adil Rami

The Daily Mail seem to have their tackles mixed up
