Trent, Salah and VVD

I get the urge to do new things and see things from other perspectives and unlike most of us his career will be mostly done in his early thirties. I used to wonder why the hell anyone would leave but after twenty years at the same club I now wonder why any young man would want to stay. It's not like he's been off to uni or established himself in a new city and he's probably just got wanderlust after being under the microscope in ways few people will be able to relate to. I know that the timing is off but I'm not going to suddenly hate him for leaving.

So long and thanks for all assists.

This is how I'd feel if he did actually leave. I'm still not convinced he's going anywhere though.

Same, wish him the best. Days of me being into one player are long gone. Transfer fee or not, club is not some local two bob enterprise. We have reaped our rewards ten fold in that time.

People come and go. LFC has been about the most constant thing in my life. I find it hard to get bothered about the individual decisions players make these days. When in doubt, zoom out.
See everyone ? Words of wisdom to take in, and he is not even a TOP TOP red.

No, not the same. More some one is advising him wrong. If he wants to move to Madrid he could have left with more integrity by just coming out and saying it rather than all the cloaks and daggers. Or, he could leave a legend of Liverpool and sign for Madrid in a year or two (I am sure they could come up with some clause in his contract for this to work). It's a shame because even if he does sign a new contact I am not sure if his reputation will ever be the same as he has conducted himself as a mercenary.
I agree bar the fact if he signs again I don’t think that’s a fair assessment. Having said all of that it looks more likely he’ll be off and if so fuck him. He’s been too big for his boots for a few years and we are better off without.

I will always love him and Divock for breaking Barcelona with something as simple as a quickly-taken corner. The GOAT has never been the same since.
But I'll be fuming if he stays and picks up a season-ending injury the day after the window closes.

I dont think he should leave for all the obvious reasons already mentioned.

But if he sees out his contract trying his hardest, why all the vitriol? He doesnt owe us a £100 mill transfer fee. Its not up to him to engineer his move so we get the biggest or indeed any fee.

I've said before, I don't particularly hate players for leaving on a free or forcing an exit. I did when I was younger.

But there was a club before they were here, there will be a club after they leave.

The club survived McManaman, survived Owen, survived Torres, Coutinho, Suarez... it'll survive Trent. .

Here was a kid who joined us age what? 6, 7? Has given almost 20 years to us through various age categories. Won it all. Vice captain through a golden period.

Saw Klopp leave, saw virtually no marquee incomings to solidify our period of dominance.

So, although he won't leave a legend, I won't hold a hatred that some of you will.

Anybody who actively hates Trent for leaving is a massive bellend.

I’m not arsed about the lack of fee. I wouldn’t care too much if he came out and said he loved his time here and has won it all but wants to try somewhere new.

It’s going there. The whole celebration the other night. The letting Madrid know he’d be open to join in Jan when we’re are top of everything.

I’d much prefer him do a “I’m not signing another contract or a pre-contract and will do it all at the end of the season”. The jogging back prick.

I still want every Madrid player to have a career ending injury.

But do we know Trent’s advisors did ask Madrid to bid in Jan? Apart from a few articles from ex reds? To me, it doesn’t make sense for a number of reasons especially from financial point of view.
He will surely prefer to leave in summer.

They wouldn’t have asked had they not been given the green light by the player. If they didn’t then it is a risky game they are playing by showing Trent what disrespectful cunts that they are which may influence his future decision.

Don’t agree.
It makes no sense.
What does he gain himself by leaving in Jan rather than in summer?
He does have an ego after all too.
Jan exits are normally when it suits both parties.

His brother and agent is a massive cunt appaz. No doubt that he knew an approach was coming.

They are desperate for a right back. They would also want to weaken us as rivals. They could’ve rang him up and said we will give you what we promised but from Jan.

THAT's the kicker right there. While in an ideal world I'd have preferred him to stay, his going to another club won't particularly stick in my gullet. If he does so in a way that robs LFC of the fee it should have got for him, on the other hand, that'll be another matter entirely and I'll despise him for it the way I despised McMoneyman.

That's how I think about it.

Obviously he's legally entitled to exploit any mistakes the club made for the maximum financial gain, but that doesn't mean it's acceptable behaviour.

Yeah, I agree.

They're basically offering us his signing on fee.

But he really doesn't want to go right now. It's just for aesthetics. So he can say in the summer it wasn't about money and Liverpool could have got a fee for him.

In a way though, I don't blame him for wanting to leave. If I was him, i'd rather go and play for Real Madrid, than put my future in the hands of FSG, who showed 0 ambition with marquee signings in the summer, and 0 ambition in getting the captain/best player in the world rn signed up to new contracts? I'd be thinking what if Salah and VVD leave, and how has it got this far?

Why would I want to stay at a club where the coach is constantly expected to create magic and players overperform?

All the while, giving up a 20m signing on fee (to John Henry) and a massive wage hike.

Without the whole "this means more" emotion, it's actually a no brainer.

Sad to say, but as shite as they are, United show more ambition to keep their homegrown talents. We simply don't.
Are you Binomial's brother? It's honestly like everything that has been detailed here, by numerous posters, as to why and how contracts haven't been signed is invisible. Your comments defy logic.

Let's also just ignore how Slot's team is performing. More signings would have made us invincible ... or possibly had another effect on the team entirely.

You think this is the only way a player can leave? Isn't there such a thing as common decency?

I don't begrudge him leaving at all. I do him squeezing the club for tens of millions when he's already got more money than he can ever spend.

I think there's a reasonable middle ground that says yes obviously he's entitled to leave but also thinks he should also have some loyalty and feeling for the club.

How is he squeezing the club for 10s of millions of dollars?

Sorry but he hasn't "given" the club a thing. He's been living a dream and eventually getting handsomely paid for it.

I would say playing for the club for 10yrs is giving the club everything in that time. Club has also given him everything but it’s two way something. But if he wasn’t seen of any worth then they would have not kept him around and got rid like 1000s of other youngsters at various stages of youth development.

Where do you think that huge signing on bonus he'll get is coming from? It's the money the club would usually get as a fee.

Now there's an argument to be had about how much of that cash the club is really "entitled" to. Loyalty goes both ways etc.

I just think it's weird to ignore that there are certain standards of behaviour we expect from people.

Stil a concern we are now in final stages of Salah and Virgil’s contract and nothing signed. People are saying they will sign but it’s really concerning with each month. My worry is they will announce a pre-contract signing now while we are all on about Trent. I hope not..,
