Trent, Salah and VVD

I get the urge to do new things and see things from other perspectives and unlike most of us his career will be mostly done in his early thirties. I used to wonder why the hell anyone would leave but after twenty years at the same club I now wonder why any young man would want to stay. It's not like he's been off to uni or established himself in a new city and he's probably just got wanderlust after being under the microscope in ways few people will be able to relate to. I know that the timing is off but I'm not going to suddenly hate him for leaving.

So long and thanks for all assists.
I get the sentiment. But you cannot put yourself in Trent’s shoes and compare how you would feel after 20 years at a same place to Trent or any other footballer for that matter. Given the amount he is paid, assuming he has invested it wisely, he can live an interesting life, explore the world when he hangs his boots in a manner few of us can only dream.

If being under a microscope affects him, then I cannot think of a worse place than Real Madrid. If he cannot handle the media spotlight a Liverpool, then good luck handling the circus at Madrid.

But I am with you that I cannot hate him when he leaves. Primarily because I learned a lesson from Torres. I cannot also wish him to fail at Madrid. Because if he does, he will be angling for a move back. We will not be bidding what Madrid wants, and it will be irritating seeing him play for Chelsea or City or Newcastle.

Expectations of Trent are high because he claims to love the club, he’s from the city and we had a manager that set a gold standard on being decent and making things a win-win.

Screwing the club over (if it happens) feels a bit unnecessary.

“what people think of you when you leave is more important than what they think when you arrive“ - some bloke who was a mentor to Trent

It’s also possible Real are poisoning the pot with the rumors and the offer - and now Trent is seeing the reaction and comments and it’s going to push him into their arms

Are you Binomial's brother? It's honestly like everything that has been detailed here, by numerous posters, as to why and how contracts haven't been signed is invisible. Your comments defy logic.

Let's also just ignore how Slot's team is performing. More signings would have made us invincible ... or possibly had another effect on the team entirely.
Haven't read all those other comments.

I was initially very upset with TAA. But the more I think about it, the more I sympathise with Trent.

Doesn't matter the miracles Slot is performing after the club showed no ambition in the summer.

Why would I sign a new deal as a top player, if I don't know if VVD and Salah will be here next season? If the club allow top players like these to leave on a free, i'd prefer to sign for a team showing ambition who are always going to be competing for the top honours, and spending according.

Sorry.

Again, managerial transition is the reason for this and some players reluctance to sign on for a new manager without first seeing it.

They also entrusted too much power to Klopp at the end. This is part of it
Managerial transition is part of the reason sure. But not the only reason.

Why hasn't any of our top players signed a new deal by now? VVD? Salah? Trent? Konate? Diaz?

Diaz has 3 more years left? Not urgent. Konate is underway apparently? As for the three amigos, I’d imagine it’s a combo of the transition and the age thing for VvD and MS.

He's got 2 and half years left? But ok. Not urgent, but we should be proactive talking now with him, from a position of strength. And offering him a good deal now (like 140k pw; he's paid less than Nunez, Chiesa and Kostas), so by the time his contract talks come around, he's not in his peak outperforming Salah and asking for the same money.

Exactly, I don’t know anything about running the club or what’s going on about the club but I would hope we are taking to Gakpo, Diaz and anyone with 3yrs or less on contract needs to happen now. Previously we seemed to players renewed typically with 2-3 yrs still left. We can’t keep only blaming transition so not sure what’s going on behind scenes but to have all 3 walk away is a possibility that FSG need to take responsibility for now.

….

This is just such nonsense.

Signing players isn’t necessarily a sign of ambition. It’s been stated before, there’s no mystery as to why players want to join too clubs, it’s primarily, for most of them, about getting paid top wages - there’s no mystery here - if the club has prestige and a chance to win things, then even better - does the club have good facilities, etc - whether the club signed anyone in a previous window will likely be so far down the list reasons to sign that things like mountain views comes in to play.

Do you think that Georgian keeper we signed in the summer was in two minds about signing because we didn’t sign a 5th choice CB or something.

Just nonsense.

If anything - the fact we don’t sign loads of players might suggest that, as a club we’ve done our due diligence and actually want you as a player - not only that, if you’re successful you’ll be rewarded with new contracts till your veteran years and we’ll not sell you unless you want to leave, with the likelihood that you’ll have a chance to leave on a free for a final payday, with our blessing.

this is what i don’t get about Mo and Virgil, we’ve slipped into january so at any stage their heads could be turned easily, officially and finally.

we can’t still be haggling can we? yea we’re all relaxed and talks are progressing but why not just finalise things?

Because the longer they leave it the more they squeeze from the club, and they're not handling negotiations, their agents who love squeezing every cent are.

yea i get that but we’re now past the oh shit they can sign for anyone point, it’s kind of clear both parties want each other so what else is left to labour over?

the agents have to balance risk also, big mouth ramy in particular must be aware that Mo has been known to drop off a bit and the risk of major injury to either is ever present.

thinking about it i suppose i’ve just contradicted myself there with a why are we fucking about and risking them going elsewhere but also saying it’s clear both parties want each other.

in my head there’s risk on both ends and it feels like everyone wants to be where they currently are, how is this still going on!

If true it sort of dismisses Carra's theory that this is all a show so that when Trent goes in the summer he can say that the club refused a cash offer for him.
Why would Real increase their offer if it was only for show?
Serves both Real and Trent's camp at the same time?
Real do need him now. Trent PR plus too.

Indeed, but I also find this tactic from Real a bit weird if they are so certain that he’ll sign a pre contract.

I think that they need him now and are not completely confident that they have him in the summer.
Hence they are trying to force his and our hand.
And Marca are being used as the usual mouthpiece to unsettle the player and create a rift between him and the club and fans

Yeah, but it kinda shows that they arent very confident though. If this was agreed they would announce the pre contract and then try to negotiate an earlier release in January.

All the stories in the Spanish media about how close this deal is looks like big BS.

Mohamed Salah three-year contract claim after PSG make transfer stance clear on Liverpool forward

According to French football journalist Romain Collet Gaudin, PSG will offer Salah a three-year deal on a weekly salary of €500,000 (£414,000).

But but why would anyone else want to pay the amount of Money only we would for this Mo?
If LFC lose more than one of the 3 then I would seriously question how FSG and Hughes have handle these round of negotiations especially since it’s obvious Mo and Virgil’s preference is to stay with us. Hopefully talks are progressing and we can get it done ASAP.

Totally agree.
This makes me believe that despite what Marca want us to believe nothing is set in stone and contract extension talks are, as reported in reliable sources, still ongoing
