Transfer window nearly upon us

Torres is a fraction of the player he used to be, but he's still better than our three current options without DS.
If the history weren't there and the money was low, Should we not take a gamble on him as a third choice striker?

I'd take Torres for free or on a loan on cheap wages. There, I said it.

I just want a striker with a proper song again!

Liverpool's defensive uncertainty extends off the pitch as well as on it as 10 of Brendan Rodgers' back line and both his senior keepers are unsure of their Anfield future.

Three established members of Rodgers' back four – Kolo Touré, Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan – will be free agents this summer, enabling them to leave on a Bosman transfer unless the club offers new deals. The same applies to Brad Jones, who is currently the preferred choice in goal ahead of Simon Mignolet.

The Belgian goalkeeper must fear his spell on Merseyside will be brief having lost his place and with his club actively searching for another first-choice number one.

Martin Skrtel has been a regular starter under Rodgers but he has only 18 months left on his current deal and there has been no approach to extend his terms yet.

Mamadou Sakho and Jose Enrique are also far from certain to avoid the next squad cull. They only tend to feature in the event of injury and suspension and would both be sold if the right offer was forthcoming next summer.

Defenders Sebastian Coates, Andre Wisdom and Tiago Ilori are currently on loan elsewhere, waiting to see if they have any long-term future at Anfield, while Javier Manquillo moved to Anfield on a two-year loan from Atletico Madrid.

With Liverpool continuing to be undermined by their defenders, it is highly likely there will be another turnaround of personnel as Rodgers seeks a more reliable back four.

Liverpool defenders/keepers with uncertain future:
Out of contract, summer 2015: Kolo Touré, Glen Johnson, Jon Flanagan, Brad Jones (g)
Out of contract, summer 2016: Martin Skrtel
Failing to impress: Simon Mignolet (g), Mamadou Sakho, Jose Enrique
Out on loan: Sebastian Coates (Sunderland), Andre Wisdom (West Brom), Tiago Ilori (Bordeaux)
On loan at Anfield: Javier Manquillo

Michael Owen, the horse breeder, has spoken. He wants Liverpool to sign Pogba:

"Steven Gerrard's not going to go on forever so the ideal replacement there would probably be someone like Paul Pogba at Juventus.

'He's an exceptional talent, a young talent that can play in that drive an central midfield role.' (Sic)

Captivating insight from Michael.

Why hasn't anyone thought of signing Pogba before now?

I thought we were sorting Flanno's contract last year? Yeah, amazing scouting from Michael Owen there. Genius. As for January I hear Freddy Adu is available on a free.

Tony Evans has heard that Torres to us is a done deal.

Not that I think he's got a clue anyway

Yep, you've got to be careful with your Tony's when it comes to the times. Tony Barrett is usually very accurate with these things, his a very reliable source. Tony Evans however is possibly the most sour and idiotic "Liverpool journalist" out there and I don't think he's got anything right in recent times.

His crowning glory was breaking the "story" that the Chinese were buying us. He's a joke.

That must have caused you some sleepless nights, eh JJ?? 😡

I think it's about the 4th or 5th time you've mentioned this in the last two weeks. 😳

Let's not exaggerate, eh? Two or three times maybe, and that's because Evans has been mentioned in threads but given a free ride over this once-in-a-career journalistic carcrash. I will admit that I find him particularly dislikeable for the reasons Mystic refers to, added to which I resent the way he, of all people, has become the go-to "voice of Liverpool" on the radio.

Agree with JJ and Mystic on Evans. I find him annoying and a bit too "superfannish" and "biased" in his articles. Prefer journos to be more balanced and rational. I think Evans always tries to go for the sensational.

Read that the Mattia Perin story was broken by Di Marzio. Likely to be some credibility to it then.

Graham Beecroft was saying on TalkSport this morning that we have to sell to buy in the January window, though loans are a possibility.

Another interesting snippet was the suggestion that Inter have switched their attention away from Lucas to Paulinho, and want to loan him from Tottenham till the end of the season with an option to buy at that stage.

What does my head in is that he goes completely out on a limb about stuff, "done deal", "advanced stages", etc. Why would you blag and put yourself under that much pressure to be right? The basics of speculative journalism is to suggest something's on the cards, not to constantly confirm stories as in the bag.

As for Torres, the rumours seem to be gathering pace. I'd sooner we bought him than anyone else, if we're only opting for a cheap short-term deal.

Yes please!
