Heard this tonight:
We want to sign a big name apparently, the intention is to sign a top brass striker. Too many worries over Sturridge, unrest between Rodgers and the board over ending up with Balotelli, whom Rodgers didn't draw up, but said he would try to work with as he saw him as a project of sorts who he would "try" to shape.
It hasn't worked out and now the board are giving more control to Rodgers with an eye to the Summer. Rodgers feels like he's been screwed over after saying he wouldn't work under a Director Of Football, and then being ushered into a working relationship with a transfer panel, which more or less amounts to the same level of compromise - and Ayre as the deal breaker.
This would essentially be a big signing that would make or break Rodgers, at least in terms of how much impact it has on the rest of the season, and how much leverage that gives him next Summer - ie, he'll have made his bed. If we don't qualify for Europe, he'll have a significantly smaller budget to work with. So the board are essentially giving him a rod for his own back, or the freedom to have full control - again with no excuse making or finger pointing.
Interestingly, I heard that they have and pretty much always have had a plan B in place in terms of a list of candidates to sound out, should things go tits up. Covering all angles - young, experienced etc. And the list did include Rafa, they have had him earmarked as an option since the Summer of 2012, but the board see him only as a short term option whom would be more or less be made to work with what he has, in this instance at least. The AVB link was kosher, worryingly. Rodgers is aware of this "sounding out" (and is fucked off), something the American's see as fair play, in covering the interests of the club for all eventualities, something Rodgers would see as undermining.

Rafa going to the Chavs on a short-term deal is one thing. Rafa coming back to LFC supposedly on a short-term basis would be quite another. He'd move Heaven and Earth to try and make it permanent and I could well see that ending up by causing more problems than it solved.
I've some sympathy for Brendan not being happy about the idea of the owners' back-up plans, but he could probably have put an end to that if he'd brought home the title last season and one or two of his decisions helped cause our failure to do that. I'm less unhappy about the existence of those plans than keni is BTW. They suggest to me that the owners are making allowances for the fact that they're newbies in the game, which to me is fair enough (though I'm not happy to see Rafa or Villas Boas on the list).

Nothing like what I've heard Mark. Would love it to happen but it's more likely we won't be signing anyone unless we sell first so where this money for a big money striker us coming from I dunno

- avoid paying 15m+ for a british player, irrespective of age;
- avoid paying 15+m for a player between ages of 18-21 irrespective of nationality
- target foreign players between ages of 22-24 and pay big dosh

I think that's untrue too. AVB has come out and said he was approached by us before Rodgers took over, I think any discussion ended there.
Fair question, but we don't know if he was supposed to find out.
That's true as far as it goes, but he's young, hungry and confident. Got to be an improvement on Balotelli, though he'll need to improve more, along with our other young players.
I can't help feel that Origi is being set up to fail - I reckon that's one of the reasons Rodgers etc don't want him to come over in January. No way should a 19 year old from another country be bought in during the Jan transfer window with the expectation from fans that he's going to solve our issues. For his own good we really can't afford to bring him over just now.
Think he'll only come in if Borini leaves
I can see the force of the argument against bringing Origi back in the New Year, and in an ideal world we wouldn't even be considering it. However, I'm not as sure as some of you fellas that it would be a bad idea. While it could have been a set-up, Origi did go on record as saying he would prefer to get started over here when stories initially surfaced about the possibility of cutting his loan short, we weren't exactly tearing up the league then either and, if he does make a positive difference to us now, it'll kick his LFC career off in a big way. Yes, it's a risk and TBH my preference would be to bring experienced quality in at this stage, then add Origi in the summer, but in all the circs.it *may* be a risk worth taking.
Basically, it's not that simple.
I can't see us having much to spend. £10m max. I'd love Mark's info to be true, however.
