Transfer window nearly upon us

As for Balotelli, another non-performance last night save some fancy flicks in non-threatening places.

He'll no doubt go in the summer and I wouldn't be averse to letting him go in January should we look to be close to getting his fee back. Sadly, he looked again last night that my optimism might be misplaced - he just doesn't fit in this system.

But with Lambert, we're much more likely to sell him now, at his age and with lower placed teams with pressing need for an ageing target man in January, than in the summer to teams planning a season around him.

Lambert does offer a viable plan B, he's come on and scored a goal of important goals when needed. Balotelli on the other hand is not and really should go.

Fuck me he came on last night to a pitch full of knackered players and looked the least mobile / most knackered player out there. And did fuck all.

Some plan B...

You do constantly defend Mario and your post implies Lamber is worse than Mario

I've been more optimistic than most about Balotelli but that's not the same as constantly defending him.

My post didn't imply anything of the sort - I didn't even mention Balotelli in it.

Anyway, you're into black and whites, I prefer greys. Lets leave it.

Because it didn't work last night doesn't mean it hasn't worked and won't work.

The Spurs game with Sturridge, you have to say he looked quite decent. He played a really good wingman. Now that Sturridge is back, they can try to reignite the okd relationship.

I'm not for turning on this one. I called it early on with Lambert - his presence in the team disrupts our play. It's no coincidence that since Rodgers has switched to playing Sterling or Borini up front we've looked like a more potent attacking, fluid threat. Yes, he scored a couple of goals a while back, but we didn't look ourselves at all in those games and the goals weren't necessarily match winners either.

Last night was just awful. If he can't come on against players who have played 100 minutes at full tilt and look relatively lively and inventive, he's got no chance. He looked like the ageing mid-level player he is. Not good enough with no upside, no thanks.

Do you really think Lambert has a genuine role to play in trying to claw back a top 4 spot?

As a plan B yes. The game against Aston Villa for example, we couldn't shut the game off, he came on and we looked better, and ultimately he scored. You're thinking of him as if hes our number two striker, he isn't, hes an option when we need to change things up.

I'm not. I don't think he's good enough to be in the squad full stop.

You're quoting the Villa game in which we scored, granted, but I don't agree we looked better with him on.

In fact I can't think of a single game this season in which he's come off the bench and transformed our play, beyond increasing our offside count and slowing our attack down / making us go unproductively more direct.

The Villa goal doesn't mitigate against his obvious limitations for me.

If we're selling anyone it has to be Balotelli. We'll get more money for him, and he's offering nothing but a disruptive influence. I'm not saying Lambert is a better player, but he's a positive influence who will do all he's asked. The money we'd get for him wouldn't do much either.

Ideally we wouldn't have either, we'd have better than both.

Oh, Lambert IS better then Balotelli. I feel like he's got completely found out at this level. He'll shoot (badly) from anywhere so give him time on the ball outside the box. And bully him in the box because he doesn't fancy the fight.

Southampton first week.

can folks pls keep posts focused on transfer developments - whenever I see a new post in this thread I end up being disappointed....

…….there's Liverpool's transfer committee

I suspect it's more of an FFP thing limiting how much we can spend, unless we were able to ship out Borini and Balotelli. I would hope that all involved realise that what we need to push on as a team is some genuine quality, which either means spending a decent wedge of cash (which we probably can't do and stick within FFP without selling the aforementioned players who don't want to leave at this point) or signing quality players who are on a free, which we probably can't do this window.

I know Balotelli has disappointed and to an extent has flattered to deceive throughout his career but that's just absurd.

this rumour gave me a good laugh:

The Metro reports that La Liga giants Real Madrid are readying a shock move for Spurs' sweetheart Harry Kane. Karim Benzema could be the fall guy to help Carlo Ancelotti's club pull together the funds necessary to bring Kane, who is in contract talks with Tottenham, to the Bernabeu.

We wont sign anyone in January.

Lambert will leave for 2ish mill this summer and if Balotelli leaves it will be for 8-10 mill to either Italian or Turkish football. Shock horror all around.
I can see him moving to Gala or something who have the funds to pay for his wages.
