Toure

I just did a quick check on physioroom and it seems that Sakho and Dagger are both back next week. To be honest it's not really the CB (Toure's mistake today aside he's been fine) that are the problem it's the full backs. Cissokho and Johnson are muck. Flanno however has been a happy surprise.

I don't think Gerrard is mobile enough to play the Lucas role. Lucas is always available for the pass

He was shite today though, he looked terrified and clueless whenever he got the ball, that ball that he passed to no one at the end summed up his day.

BECAUSE HE HAD NO DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER TO PASS TO. COS OUR ACTUAL DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER FOR THE DAY DECIDED TO PLAY AS A FUCKING SWEEPER.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Naah. 'There's Gerrard in the deeper midfield role he occupies these days. What a smart move it is by Brendan Rodgers. He doesn't maybe have the legs to bomb forward anymore as he used. But he does have the passing range to play that position so well, just like Xabi Alonso.'

It was pure shite and nothing to do with where Gerrard was or wasn't. If you can't see a man and need to get rid of the ball you never just knock it across your own box and hope. Pathetic stuff and he's fully responsible.

He had two players square of him, with their attacker lurking, he didn't look and played a blind pass, across our own box. It's rudimentary stuff, you don't play blind passes across your own box. From his position he's got at least four other options, look for the fullback, play it back to his keeper (if it's on and the attacker isn't getting there), carry it forward, or just GET RID, something we seem overly reluctant to do. And you can spout bollocks about modern football and maintaining possession and all that shit, there's a time and place and we've been getting away with overplaying the ball at the back for AGES.

Agree with Mark and Woland's posts above.

I still think Toure is one of our best two CBs (with Sakho) but he doesn't do as well playing in the left CB position as the right. Ming shouldn't have passed out to him, so he's not totally absolved, but Toure should never in a million years have played that pass - and he will know that. It has to be said though that the midfield were frequently not getting into the positions where Toure could make the pass.
I thought Skrtel played well - two stupid Fks and one poor pass out of defence aside.

I thought Gerrard had a very good game but he's still only at 80% for that position, he was again restrained and I expect him to improve game by game as he adjusts to playing there.

I just hope we can stumble across the line in 4th this season with our ropey defence and central midfield. And then Rodgers can actually get some transfers sorted in the summer (when I say summer, I obviously mean the last 2days of the summer window).

It was a fucking awful pass from Toure, but you wouldn't really blame Mignolet for slicing a backpass if it was hit at him with pace - everyone knows toure is wank under pressure, has no on the ball skills, and isn't very good at passing - so we give him the ball in that situation and are surprised when he fucks it up. He should never have had the ball in that situation, he did, and he fucked it up, so we move on.

Next season our back four should not really ever have Toure, Cissokho or Flanno starting in it, unless it's a 'gimmie' game, i.e a cup game. Saying that, maybe remove Flanno from that list, he's much improved as of late. Him and Sterling seem to be having a similar improvement path - i thought they were both wank last season, but this season they've both been really good.

Toure should be rightly lambasted for the elementary error but he has been immense for us since his arrival. Thats really his first glaring error. We should have buried WBA by that point. Suarez's miss cost us heavily. Our midfield need to work harder.

The Gooners game will show us exactly where we are in our evolution as a team and what we need to do to get ahead. We can beat them at Anfield but must tighten up our midfield and defend as a team.

Don't get me wrong, unless he can pull out derby-type displays every week, I don't think Gerrard is suited to the deeper role, but that's some bs right there Ryan.

Ryan is not a Liverpool supporter. Just some weird bloke who stalks this website. Knows nothing about football generally, or Liverpool in particular. Best ignored.

He is right though.

If Gerrard wasn't receiving the pass, there was no need for him to be that deep.

He limited kolos options by not moving.

I thought Gerrard played well to be honest. The reason we concede was thanks to Mignolet putting Toure under a huge amount of pressure with a stupid pass, Toure then crumbled under that pressure.

Gerrard did play well, but he was ridiculously (and needlessly) deep.

Toure wasn't under that much pressure. He just made a silly pass.

He could have passed it back to Mignolet to boot if he wasn't sure.

If a keeper is given a certain set of ideas by the coach, it'd be professional suicide to ignore them.

Toure said he should have passed it to Cissokho or Ming. Doesnt matter though as it doesnt change anything.
We should have scored a 2nd regardless of Kolos brainfart.

It sure the hell isnt Gerrards fault though.

For not giving him an option to pass to? Cant remember where Gerrard was tbh or the what happened before Ming claimed the ball.

It's not Gerrards fault but he contributed to the fuck up

Yes. But this has been an accident waiting to happen all season. We don't play with any intelligence at the back when we've won the ball back. We stop, invite the opposition to push back up, wait until they've cut down the space, then try those rash passes, then lose possession either by leaving poor Mignolet to belt the ball up to no one, Cissokho to slice the ball forward into touch or Skrtel or Flanagan/Johnson to misplace a punt forward to Sterling. It makes no sense in what otherwise is such a coherent and intelligent system by Rodgers. The movement in midfield is too distant and too slight, which obviously makes it worse, but we need to move the ball forwards much earlier and quicker.

I suppose Rogers would argue that playing like that is exactly what worked so well against Everton, drawing them further & further forwards & then hitting them in the counter.

I'm not saying I'm for it, quite the opposite, it scares me shitless when we fuck about with it at the back so much, but I'm sure it's quite intentional, & I'd like to see how effective it'd be with our fist choice centrebacks & two quality in form full backs.
