Buenos Diaz

[article]Colombia hero Tino Asprilla, who spent time at Newcastle and Parma, has heaped praise on his compatriot.

The pundit also suggested Diaz could replace Vinicius Junior at Real Madrid. That’s despite the winger notching 18 goals this term and starring against Manchester City on Tuesday night.

When asked about Diaz’s displays of skill, Asprilla told ESPN: “The English are not used to seeing these things – it’s very difficult.

“That’s why when he did it they were surprised. It’s just that the English are made to play with a seriousness.

“That’s why the South Americans are so sought after. That’s for special players.

“Even in the warm-up he did with Thiago, people were going crazy when they started playing little games. You hardly ever see that kind of thing.

“The doubt was whether this boy was going to have a place; a place was opened up.

“If there is a place in Liverpool, there is a place in Real Madrid. Don’t tell me that Vinicius is going to put him on the bench, never in his life.”[/article]

I saw half of the game on my phone, but wasn't Diaz a bit shit tonight? Didn't seem to create much and lost the ball quite often. He must be a bit knackered trying to replicate the amount of defensive work Mane used to do when playing on the wing while also threatening in attack – he never had to do both to that extent in Porto and I think he will need a full pre-season with Klopp to build up that level of fitness and endurance.

No I thought he was solid... doesn't have to be Ronaldinho everytime he plays. Also he had about 3 men marking him at times.

Haha I think you need to re-watch the game on a larger screen mate.

His general play is great and his attitude marks him out as a player who will improve once he's had time to adapt to the league and our systems, but being objective he has lacked end product at times. He gets into great positions and makes the wrong decisions, that's OK he's just not on the same wavelength yet so he's improvising as opposed playing as part of a well drilled set up. I do think some of the praise has been a bit over the top at times

I get what you mean.. in the final third, it didn't quite come off more often than not. Bar a couple of shots which exposed how dodgy their keeper was.

But he more than made up with that covering with Robbo.

First half he seemed the most likely of the 3 to score or create something. Second half he took more of a backseat, though was still involved heavily.

Diaz was very good. His pressing and movement was top notch. Mostly his involvements were good but some of the interplay with Salah and Mane didnt come off. Looked close to scoring though.

He wasn't shit but I agree with the general conclusion. He started brightly but after a got the impression that his energy seemed to have dropped a level or two and he just kinda faded out of the game for a period. Like you say a full pre-season with us will hopefully help with this.
