Torres

To be honest we need to get all the bad shit out of the way in one go, so I'd rather it happen now than in 7 months.

I really can't wait to see how the Yanks handle the $$$ for the Summer, even january to be extent. I know they've said they want sensible spending on young talent but either way im excited for Jans window.

The past 6 months hasnt been good for Torres and his legacy at the club but he'll still have had the two best seasons at the club as a forward in my lifetime. Just a shame his time at LFC won't be marked with some silverwear.

Well if they are going to finance their first transfer window with money gained from selling one fo two world icons we have on our books they are fucking idiots. At least Hicks bought us Torres, not sold him.

They're definitely not idiots, so I'm sure they wouldn't even consider a sale unless the fee offered were off-the-scale humungous.

I'm very certain that Torres won't be sold anytime soon. He has a contract to 2014 and NESV will feel they can improve upon their circumstances and significantly improve his service and therefore his demeanor with some wingers.

Thanks for the info RS, but I highely doubt that it will happen. This story was bound to break as a result of Tevez wanting to leave. That will result in 1+1 =3.

If the new owners don't deliver then he'll leave, but I think Henry will convince him to give him a chance. Either way I can't see City being an option, and with the amount of love he has for the club playing for another English side would be extremely difficult.

It's only Hodgson that I see as the biggest threat right now, as the longer he stays in charge the bigger the chance that Nando will say enough is enough. But I highely doubt anything will happen until the summer, if anything happens at all.

We all know we'll end up selling Torres for 30m & buying Carlton cole for 15m and some Comolli sourced French unknown who ends up being called the new el zhar.

Then we can look forward to dreambeliever getting excited about football again, Ross telling us how it's helped us lower or wages budget so will be great, Brendan goes over the edge in to full blown insanity, spiderneil bemoans the lack of attacking fullbacks... repeatedly, oncey quits the site in disgust and starts a career in male fashion and someone who was previously banned reappears and to wind us all up calls himself "roy4pm".

Somebody will then start a thread about rafa.

Ryan babel will release a new rap song. Poulsen will misplace several passes and we'll loose away from home again

Another scm member will descend into alcoholism.

I'll have a go at that one. One for the team and all that.

Haha.

Neil had made nowhere near enough attacking fullback posts for my liking, recently

I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest. I've been preparing for it since the summer.

Oh and in other news, rijkaard is being lined up by Chelsea to replace Ancelotti

if torres is sold then it will be because torres wants to leave rather than nesv wanting to sell (it's not like they need the money) and do we really want to hold onto someone that wants to leave?

obviously torres leaving will be a blow but you'd have to believe nesv has plan to make us challengers again within 5 years (that's what henry said in the phone-in) with or without torres on the books.
in an ideal world you would have torres and build on that with more world class players but you can't change your long term goals for one player (regardless of how talented).

of course nesv would have told torres about these plans and how they will attempt to achieve those goals but the question is, is torres prepared to kick more years into touch (like he kicked this year into touch by staying) while we tread water waiting for these plans to reach fruition?
if the answer is no then it will be up to nesv to get as much out of the deal as possible.

His waning form, injuries and shit attitude will certainly soften the blow if this story proves to be true. Had we lost the Torres of two years ago, however, I would have been devastated.

No way at the moment is Torres a £40m+ player

I bet we get £20m and a bunch of their rejects.

If Torres goes, then no doubt Pepe will be next. We then have to build an entirely new team. Around no-one.

I'm much more scared of losing pepe than torres.

I know this is just paper talk, but I'll be honest - I'm getting fed up with Torres. He's giving me more moments of annoyance than pleasure these days. His attitude is shit, and those beautiful, wonderful memories of his first season or two seem like so very long ago.

I want the old Fernando back, but then I'm sure he wants the old Liverpool back too. So really, we're all fucked.

The real Fernando demands a very small but still important circumstance. We need to be a hungry club. Then he will be a hungry player... Not to difficult, but we are very very far from oit.

A couple of season ago I'd have smashed plates and sworn allegiance to the Dark Lord to keep him, now ..... *shrugs shoulders*.

Selling club ? Nobody ever accused Ferguson of that and he's sold enough players at the top of their game.

He spends half his time injured and the other half coming back from injury (we all know he needs games to get back to prime Nando) therefore if we get big money for him (50M+) .... and we should since he still has a long contract - then I'd grab it and run.

That, sell Babel, Poulson and some others, plus any other money to be plowed into the club means we can get quality players for all of our problem positions - CB, LB, RW, LW and a couple of strikers (top strikers may well be reticent about coming here with Torres ensconced).

Fantasy football maybe but there is no doubt we are entering a rebuilding phase and it's not all about star players.

Some good points there, but Ferguson hasn't generally let those players go to domestic rivals even if he thought the time was right to sell them on. Tevez was the excepton that proves the rule.

Well Tevez sort of proves the point - he doesn't do it often .... but often enough to prove that he does. He would have sold Rooney too if he had insisted.

re. Selling to EPL rivals. Times have changed JJ.

There are only 4 clubs who could give us the kind of money that would keep the support quiet - maybe only 3 because I don't think Abro has the stomach for big money players any more (talking 40M+) - that talk went out at the Bridge a couple of seasons ago. Barca & RM don't need him, Citeh do.

Citeh are going to get top players and become a major power in the EPL, and Europe, whether we like it or not - better to get our 50M+ and sell them a top striker (and greatly improve our team and thereby chances of a Top 4 slot) whose out for 1/3 of a season and 'getting back into the groove' for another 1/3 than have them go off and buy a top striker who will last the whole season.

If we sell Torres, we will have lost 3 of our 5 best players in the space of 2 and a half years. That is not the route to success.

So if we're really about ripping apart the current squad an rebuilding a team to challenge for the title in future then Gerrard & carragher are amongst those who must go!

There is a double edged sword involved in being one of the most sought after talents in the game, sure there arent many clubs that wouldnt want Torres but how many could afford him? Assuming the figure is around 40 million

Chelsea - maybe, but they have been reluctant to make massive signings in recent seasons and they have bigger problems in defence
Man Utd- cant see them coming up with anything close to enough to buy him unless the sell
Real - hes had the chance and refused them before, that bridge is burnt
Barca - do they need him? probably not, where would he fit in there because they are not going to change their shape/system to accommodate him
Inter - on the slide who dont really need a striker
AC Milan - no funds and Ibrahimovic seems to be doing the job just fine
City - they have the money, they have the ambition and with or without Tevez they would gladly snap him up. The only realistic candidates, but would he go there? for double his money maybe and from our perspective they would be the most benficial club to sell to, the loss of prestige would be hard to swallow but lets face facts he will never be fit for a full season and if he wants out then we have to let him go, we can reivest the cash and build long term, taking half the fee from a foreign club makes no sense in the long run. We wont compete for the league for the next 2/3 years so why not get the best return we can, regardless of who it comes from

Carra has a season or two but yes, we should be on the lookout for a good replacement. Skrtel can go tomorrow IMO.

SG has at least 3 more years left at the top - I hope we put together a cracking team for him before he bows out.

I could swear that's what I just said 😉

Agreed.

If this is true, and my heart still wants him as a Red, I say we use the money on 4 players ...

Buy the two Belgian Stars for 30 million (Hazard & Lukaku) - They'll want to play together and it we'll have them for 10-12 years.

10 million on CB (Who, I don't know yet) & 10 million on a LB (Contreau?)

Roys 10 million left back would be Luke Young.

They'll cost a good deal more than that LTW, especially if everyone knows we've 50m+ to spend.

Real Madrid have begun targeting Romelu Lukaku. Mourinho and Ronaldo commenting on him already stating his potential and ability. And the Execs at Anderlacht have said they are not giving him up for 20 million. He would be worth the 25 million to get him. But we won't and probably rightly so in our predicament. But we can guarantee him first team football; if we are smart.
