One of Britain’s largest bookmakers has paid out on
Manchester United winning the
Premier League this season, with seven
matches still remaining.
Betfred owner and Red Devils fan Fred Done has settled bets early following
SirAlexFerguson's side's dramatic 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers on Monday night, which saw them move five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table.
Done has had such a move backfire in the past, as he paid out £500,000 to punters who backed Manchester United to win the title in 1998 only to see Arsenal overcome a 12-point deficit to
triumph.
But he remains confident that Roberto Mancini's men will fail to overhaul the champions, even with a derby at the Etihad Stadium approaching on April 30.
"Even with the Derby to come a five point lead is just too much for City, so once again I’m letting my United punters have their dough early to the tune of just over half million quid,” Done told his
company's website.
“Back in 1998 Fergie [Sir Alex Ferguson] told me to never pay out early again but Sir Alex need not worry, I’ve not got it wrong this time, United are past the post for a record 20th Premier League
title.”
