Tick Tock..

There seemed to be a bit of a general consensus that we were waiting for CL qualification and then the ball would start rolling and it's been worryingly quiet in the two days since.

The general consensus among fans maybe. John and Tom are in the Hamptons with their headphones on and supping on a grapes of vincenzo

I may be wrong but the consensus was probably more of wishful hope/thinking rather than concrete information.

Not holding up much hope personally...

Mainly off the back of people on twitter Mark Macca, Graeme Kelly, etc.

Ye, the same. If we sign anyone I'll be pleasantly surprised. Feels like such a waste of a summer, which we all went in to with such optimism.

Was gonna say the same.

*sigh*
As was I, it was vain hope combined with a bit of common sense reasoning about our owners tight arsedness more than anything.

I do think we'll see a couple of players in, but they'll be bang average squad fillers, with maybe one decent signing at CB or CM.

We would have doubled our record fee to £70 million if Keita's and VVD's clubs were willing to do business. Not sure we can level tight-arsedness at our owners. They paid £35 million for Andy Frigging Carroll when that was a lot of money.
I could see us getting VVD in January and letting Coutinho go then.

Klopp just mentioned Milner moving into midfield is just like a new signing. Feel bad for those still in the Keita camp who have come so far.

We bought Carroll on the back of selling Torres , I'm not sure there's any generosity factor there. And there's no way we'll hold out now and then sell Coutinho mid season, if he stays, he's here for another year.

What still bugs be was how we hinged all our hopes on one player for centre back and one player for central midfield. This isnt even the Jan transfer window. This is the summer - you know, where we have months and months to prepare.

Are you telling me that in the entire world of football, there isn't an available alternative centre back or central midfielder which would improve us - bearing in mind we're willing to spend over 50 million for each.

I think its pathetic.

Imagine going into the full season with Matip, Lovren, Klavan and Gomez as our centre back options. We're an inevitable Matip injury away from disaster.

Last Jan, hard to move in a market where top players who will improve the team are reluctant to move or their clubs were not willing to sell without replacement etc.

This summer, market with inflated fees, top target's team not willing to sell.

Next Jan, see last Jan's reasons + WC approaching, top targets do not want to risk starting XI position or time spent on adapting to new league.

Next summer, see this summer or outbidded or no CL football to offer.

Repeat (?)

** Wild card reasons: players returning from injuries or ex-fringe players are like new signings, hard to find 5-10 players who are better than current ones and available (for each positions), only want to secure top targets and won't settle for backup alternatives

I'm not sure why so many are surprised by these comments.

By saying we're OK without new signings he's making sure x any players we don't or can't get shut of aren't dispirited, he's tempering any reactions from the fans at not getting certain signings, & he's avoiding the club looking desperate & therefore potentially at a disadvantage when negotiating.

To do anything but what he's doing would be just stupid, when Rafa did it it was to try to force the owners to do something or to explain to the fans who's fault it was, but with a decent relationship with the owners & seemingly some money to spend it would make no sense at all to do something else.

Jesus, I am worrying again that Klopp is the German Wenger... something I have said before...

Surely getting some extra bodies in rather than coping with what we have is a necessity???

I bet John W loves Klopp's frugality.

There is no way we will go far in the Premier, CL & Cups with this squad.

I said at the start of the summer we would have our exact usual pissweak net spend.

All this Keita 70m and VVD for £60m was laughable.

We are a wonderful cash cow that keeps on giving.
FSG are fucking profiteers nothing more.

All these 'Liverpool have 200m warchest' wankers at the start of the summer do is hope we will be better.
We wont. Our owners are cunts and we wont ever compete for the title again consistently while they are incharge.

I am actually truly amazed they havnt sold Coutinho. But completely NOT amazed at our signings.

Is no one else as fucked off as me? Or is the decent start to the season making everything rosy?

I dont think ive ever been so pissed off with the club/manager in my life.

Scrap 4th by the skin of our teeth and what have we done to consolidate this? Nothing.

I'm annoyed by FSG, as per normal. But I'm finding myself oddly pissed off with Klopp - which feels strange because I love him to bits.

It does appear that he has a bit of the Wenger syndrome - i.e. too much blind trust in his players - some who we all see aren't good enough

His comment about why is Divock really fucked me off.
'he cant even get on the bench'

A)Hes not fucking good enough for the bench
B)We had FOUR defenders on the bench
C)We had two back up strikers on the bench

Midfielders change games. We have NONE in reserve.

This squad is an inbalanced mess.

No great keeper
No great defenders
No great dm
No great cm
No great cf

We have ONE great winger and ONE great AM who doesnt want play for us and he has the nerve to talk about the squad!

Jokes.

I'm now expecting us to sign no one. And I think fsg will get away with it cos the champions league will distract the fans.

After Klopp's quotes today about us having done all we can to sign players this summer, do you think he's in on it as well? Or do you think he's merely toeing the line for fear of being sacked? Or something else, of course.

Jürgen Klopp has said it will not be Liverpool’s fault should they fail to add to the squad before next week’s transfer deadline but that signings remain possible.
The Liverpool manager has been thwarted in his attempts to buy Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keïta this summer by the refusal of their respective clubs, Southampton and RB Leipzig, to sell. Liverpool have adopted the same stance with Philippe Coutinho amid a persistent pursuit from Barcelona.
Klopp has not given up hope of a breakthrough on his main targets but, without a sudden and late U-turn by Southampton or Leipzig, he insists Liverpool could not have done more to complete the deals. “All the players we spoke to we convinced [to sign],” the German said. “It’s not about money. It’s not about us. Sometimes it is just possible or not possible.”
Liverpool have signed Mohamed Salah for a club record fee, Dominic Solanke from Chelsea and Andy Robertson from Hull City, with the left-back making an impressive debut in the win over Crystal Palace last weekend. Klopp, while insisting further acquisitions are possible, claims he would be content to enter a campaign with additional Champions League commitments with his current squad.
He added: “Until 31 August, that’s how the business is – a lot of things are really possible, ins and outs. I’ve said it a few times, if the transfer window closed tomorrow, it is like it is and I’m happy with it. In the Champions League game [against Hoffenheim on Wednesday] Divock Origi was not in the squad. He did nothing wrong, that just shows how big the quality already is. That’s just one example. Other players were also not in the squad.
“Andrew Robertson showed up against Crystal Palace. Before he showed up, I think everybody thought: ‘Robertson from Hull?’ And now think: ‘Oh my God, he’s really strong!’ I’m completely fine and happy with him. Dominic Solanke showed everything you want to see from a new player in a really short time. Mo Salah, we don’t have to talk about this. James Milner plays in midfield again – that’s like a transfer for us. Alberto Moreno plays left-back again in an outstanding way. We will see what happens. I’m happy at the moment. Will I be happier after the 31st? We will see.”

What are the chances we will sign anyone before September 1st, based on this interview? I would say, no more than 30%.

I'd say about forty percent VVD and twenty percent for another midfielder, probably Oxlade Chamberlain

If it's not our fault then whose fault is it?

This summer has been a joke. I should be more annoyed but have just come to accept this sort of shit now.

He said last week he will work with what he has. Practically 'Im just here to coach the team'

I'd like to think FSG would be more worried about Klopp quitting.

Im fucking livid.
We have missed a tonne of cracking players and signed one decent winger.

We havnt strengthened at all, and we fell apart in one competition last year.

Its been a joke.
And these bullshit sagas over VVD and Keita have been embarassing.

I hate this fucking board.
