Ta Brenan, I needed a laugh.

A wise man once said 'First is first and second is nothing', he will be turning in his grave now.

I have myself no hopes for the coming season, for the first time in my life, and I started watching us when we were in the old second division, I just hope I don't end watching us back there too.

Our owners don't give a damn about this club, everything they have ever said from the spade in the ground in 60 days to whatever fucking cack they are saying now has been a lie.

They could have made 150 Million profit years ago, but they want to sell us for 800 Million, the fuckers won't ever in a million years get that for us.

We will be run into the ground long before they realise it.

Everyone wants trophies - fans, players, manager, owners - but the disappointment last season has destroyed any expectation. It was rare last yr to even EXPECT to win a match!

I'm not thrilled by the prospect of Woy but i'm still pleased Benitez has gone, and still think there's a chance Woy can do alright.

Roy Hodgson is expected to be confirmed as Liverpool's new manager this week.

The Anfield hierarchy are reported to be confident that Hodgson will be installed as Rafa Benitez's successor in the next few days, despite the potential availability of the England national job. Were he still to be in the running following the two-week review of Fabio Capello's work at the World Cup that is widely expected to result in the Italian's dismissal, Hodgson would be the clear favourite to assume the role.

Instead, it would seem as if the 62-year-old has opted to take on the challenge of managing one of the game's biggest football clubs despite their present-day financial status of paupers.

The Times even kicks off its report on the imminent arrival of Hodgson on Merseyside with the announcement that 'his first job will be to field formal offers for the club's crown jewels, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres.'

According to the newspaper, 'Real Madrid have tabled a £20 million take-it-or-leave-it bid for the England captain, whom Liverpool value at £35 million. Torres, the Spain striker, would cost in excess of £60 million, but Chelsea and Real are aware that Liverpool's precarious financial situation allows the opportunity to acquire their players at knockdown prices. There were suggestions last night that the London club's initial offer could be as low as £25 million.'

Nor should Hodgson expect to receive the bulk of any such funds recouped from sales for squad reinvestment.

'Hodgson will be consulted over any decision to sell, but can expect to receive only a small proportion of any money raised,' says The Times.

The news begs the obvious question: Is the England job really so undesirable?

Logic > Window!
Logic is greater than the window?

I'm sure that can't be what you really meant, otherwise how is it meant to fly out of it? It'd get stuck on the frame

Whats the old saying?

Be Careful what you wish for.

Rafa's gone and some OAP looks like he's going to come in and try to do something he has never done in his life.

Win something.

What makes some people think 'he's just what we need stability'

If mid table mediocrity is stability, well yeah he can do that easily.
Nobody expects him to win something.
Our expectations for the season have almost nothing to do with the manager we appoint. If Rafa was still here and about to have his three best players shipped out from under him i would sypathise with him and not expect him to win the league either. But then i wouldnt expect Rafa to win it regardless of what the board did.
I think people are also forgetting that we have a fantastic spine, if kept intact. So aside from a few additions, Roy will be expected to work with a talented bunch of players and not underachieve, like we did last season. The basis of an 'excellent' side (not just a good side) is there, all he has to do is stick to the basics well, as he's shown he can do, and not over-complicate things like Rafa often did.
Mighty big "if", mark, and one which Roy is less likely to be able to bring about than Kenny, for a variety of reasons.

'a few additions'

I'll bet whoever the next manager is, doesn't see more than 10-20% of the cash from our sales, it will all go to paying off debts.

Benny's gone, Mascher is supposed to be next and a huge worry over Gerrard and Torres with there recent press comments.

Add to that the fact Carra's getting older, and all thats left of our 'spine' might be Pepe Riena, if he sticks around!

One positive point regarding Roy's appointment that has been overlooked is the significant reduction in managerial travel expenses, thanks to his bus pass.

Some of Thomkins twitters have indicated that the announcement about Hodgson as manager wont be made until on or after standard chartered become the official club sponsors on July 1st! dont know how much truth is involved in this or where he got it from but said id pass it on!

We hope.

What if. And I'm just throwing it out on the stoop to see if the cat licks it up. What if, all three rumours we hear are true. Hodgson will be offered the job temporarily (really temporarily) until the ownership issues are resolved sometime in the next month or so. At which time our new manager will be appointed with a fit and raring to go squad having been assembled and trained by Mr Hodgson. Who himself at that time pops off to soho square in time for the first Euro qualifier in September.
Bang!

Like the ingenuity. ;D

However, I can't see Hodgson bothering to leave Fulham now if he knows the England job will come his way next season.
It gives fulham a chance to get a new manager in. I don't think he would want to fuck them up.

Fair point. Question is how much upheaval he's willing to put himself through in order to avoid doing so - but, at a time like this, I guess anything's possible.
it's beautiful isn't it. Every minute of every scene is perfect and every single cast member is at their very best.
Did you know that the director closed the set in as filming went on to increase the sense of claustrophobia so by the end the jury room is about 6th smaller than at the start.
