The Summer of Suarez

I wouldn't rule out City. It's likely they will lose/cash in on a few strikers this Summer.

I think a lot hinges on Aguero going to Madrid.

They've been looking at Cavani for a couple seasons now and I think they might finally go after him hard this summer. If they need to replace Aguero also it's Falcao (who seems more likely to join Chelsea) or they'll perhaps start looking in our direction.

The good thing is United is never going to happen, while Chelsea.... I'd like to think he'd look at what happened with Torres. Either way though, there's the potential for big clubs to be sniffing around him, I know there always is, but it's getting near to that point and age for him where he has to decide what's best for the peak years of his career.

Yeah, I agree with that. Barca are probably the team I'd say he'd join without thinking to much about it.
There is talk of them renewing Villas contract though. And if the Neymar transfer is true I dont think they can afford or have a place for him.

Real seem to be after Aguero. Bayern have apperantly agreed a deal with Lewandowski. Juve hav signed Llorente. PSG have Ibra and Lavezzi and just bought Moura. The other English clubs I'm not worried about.

Its Barca, and if they come in for him he's gone. But other than that I think he'll give it one more year.

Juventus have come out and said they'd like him to play upfront with Llorente.

I don't really see Serie A as the league for Suarez anyway, he's made for Spain or the Premier League.

Luis Suarez: Liverpool '100% certain' striker will stay at Anfield

Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre says the club are certain striker Luis Suarez will remain at Anfield.
The 26-year-old is reported to have said he would consider leaving the club if a team playing in the Champions League were interested in his services.

“There will always be instances, particularly leading up to the summer, where people are quoted or asked these questions”
Ian Ayre
But Ayre, asked whether he was 100% confident of keeping hold of the player, replied: "Yes, absolutely."
Ayre told BBC Radio 5 live comments attributed to the Uruguayan "may have been a bit lost in translation".
Suarez signed for Liverpool from Ajax for £22.7m in January 2011and has scored 29 goals for the club this campaign.
But he is yet to play in the Champions League for the Reds and qualification for the tournament again looks unlikely this season.
Suarez is reported to have said: "If another team comes around with more prospects of competing in international club competition games, which is willing to have [me], they are welcome.
"We would talk to the club, and we would see if I want to go [or] if I don't want to go."
But Ayre responded: "He has a four-year contract. We hope he will see it through."
Suarez, who signed a new deal in the summer, has been a controversial figure in the Premier League since his arrival.
Luis Suarez

Born: 24 January 1987
Clubs: Nacional, Gronigen, Ajax, Liverpool
Ajax Apps: 159 Goals: 111
Liverpool Apps: 92 Goals: 50
In December 2011 he was banned for eight games by the Football Association after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra.
He has also attracted criticism for diving and stamping and ex-Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli hinted he could be driven out of England.
However, Ayre says Liverpool have no intention of letting their most valuable asset leave the club.
"We have no desire to sell Luis. He is a fantastic player and a great contributor to our team," he said.
"We have been honest with him and he has been honest with us and there will always be instances, particularly leading up to the summer, where people are quoted or asked these questions, but we are very pleased to have Luis and long may that continue.
"Every player will be approached by clubs because that is the nature of the game and every player has a choice."

So he's off then.

"We're 100% confident of keeping him" but "we hope he will see it (his contract) through" and "every player has a choice"

I really really don't want him sold. But if we did..

Would you be okay if say, Barca offered 40m plus Villa?
I think we're screwed trying to replace Suarez should we get 50m cash.
But a known quantity like Villa, even at his age, plus another 40m for investing sounds acceptable to me. Or is Villa finished?

Not that I would like to sell him, but given he has 4 years left on his contract, he's only 26, he's just had his best ever season, we are in prime position to get a huge amount of money for him. Has to be well over 50m. Otherwise we'll hold on to him. We are in the driving seat.

There has never been any kind of indication that he does.

I agree it hasnt been spoken of. But he signed a new contract relatively recently, is there any reason to believe that there is NOT a release clasue in it?.

I dont know, Im just thinking of a worst case scenario.

IF... IF... We sell, then it's a record transfer for us - more than Torres.

So.... say we spend that 50m on Cristian Eriksen & Theo Walcott - for example?

Is that a win or a loss?

Remember - Utd are not averse to selling a key player, if its the right time, and it hasn't ruined them.

Now that Ayre has spoken out saying he is definitely staying - I'm officially worried. The man is a buffoon of the highest order. I expect something in The Guardians 'Said and Done' column very soon. 🙁

I heard the interview on 5 live and to be fair, it was actually about the Liverpool Ladies team but they couldn't wait to get stuck into the Suarez stuff that they interrupted him and asked bout Suarez. I thought Ayre was very good in the way he handled it. He said exactly what I'd expect and he said it well, despite the interviewer trying to get him to say different.

Suarez is world class. We'd be naive to think that a) no clubs are interested b) that the media will not try and stir up a story.
Its not really something we can control that much.

Good question and impossible to say really.

I am not so sure about Walcott being part of it though.

Shakhtar hotshot Henrikh Mkhitaryan wants to move to a bigger club come Summer. We definitley should be keeping an eye on him.

Can play in the advanced midfield role as well as a striker. Natural goalscorer type that works like a horse all game.

NB Rurik can tell you more.

He can fuck off with that name.

Exactly this. No one player is bigger than the team. Suarez is a brilliant, brilliant player, but if he goes, we get 50-60mill for it, and you can get a lot of quality for that sort of money. I hope stays, and I think he will, but if/when he does ever leave, it's not the end of the world.

The journo's are bored and love spinning any old sort of shit to whip people up. He said a perfectly normal thing that even Messi would say 'you never know in football, anything could change'.

Theres a goals compendium on and one of Suarez goals on there vs Newcastle he was celebrating with
Maxi, Dirk, Meireles, Carroll, Spearing and Flanagan
Mental.

I can't remember one of our players ever having a release clause in there contract, so this gives me hope.
