Were they the right calls ?

Taking off Lucas and Allen, in a tight game where we arguably needed bodies in midfield ?

I only came in around the 60th minute but Lucas looked set for a second yellow.

That's what I thought too.

And Allen wasn't exactly living up to his Rolls Royce reputation either.

The strange thing is we (statistically) had much more possession in the second half despite making the changes that people will characterise as doing the opposite.

We were getting overrun anyways. With 4 central midfielders on the pitch.

Lucas had a yellow card and the game was getting more stretched. Allen probably got away lightly with a sub - Rodgers probably wanted to flog him.

We had bodies in midfield. We lacked quality.

I think they were correct under the circumstances. Allen was a non-entity in the game, and as guys said, Lucas was already on a yellow. His role and the way he likes to win a tackle approaching from the back and trying to wrap a foot around was always pretty high risk to get a booking; worse still in a derby game when the opponents and fans are super charged and pressuring the ref into caving.

In the end, Sturridge came in and Sturridge scored. I won't argue against that. 🙂

Yes, Allen head went down after his miss. Lucas was getting too passionate and could have got sent off. Sturridge coming on got us the draws. Can't argue with the subs.

Lucas was a bad call imo despite his frustrating freekicks. Henderson looked misplaced in there.

Yes, I think they were the right subs, Rodgers was trying to go for it. And it worked to an extent.

Allen shouldn't have started and Lucas was looking dodgy on a yellow already - despite having an excellent game.

I think the idea behind the Lucas substitution was that Hendo was not needed on the right, because Baines had come off. So we could live with a less defensively solid option like Moses on the right and move Hendo into Lucas's spot in CM.

See this is where I have an issue with Lucas. He's just not learning. I thought he was the best player on the pitch in the first half. No one could watch that first 45 minutes and not see his value to us. He was colossal.

Then he goes and gets booked for a garbage lazy tackle, and puts himself and us under pressure. Rodgers was right to hook him vid he was about 4 mins away from a red card. But it was completely pointless. Pienaar has his back to goal, and is 45 meters out. Just fucking stand him up. He's going nowhere.

From the sublime to the ridiculous for me. That yellow cost us every bit as much as Allen's miss.

Lucas had put himself in a position where he would either have to stop making his usual challenges or keep doing it and probably get sent off, Allen was low on confidence and fitness. It made sense for both of them to come off when they did. I was pleased to see Sturridge come on for Allen, ballsy move and it paid off. Moses Im completely indifferent towards I dont thin either he or Rodgers have any idea how to integrate him into this team, had no real impact other than mistiming a difficult header at the death, if that had fallen to Sturridge I think we would have all 3 points.

Moses earned us the free-kick that led to the equalizer and another dangerous free-kick near the end. He took 10 minutes to adjust to the pace of the derby, but after that I thought he was pretty good.
