The Konate Kid

Sell Matip and then VVD, Gomez, Konate & Kabak is a good selection. We’re doomed for the Europa League so good chance for Konate & Kabak to play a lot there.

Gomez at right back and Trent moves in to midfield three alongside Hendo and Fabinho with Vandyke and Konate as center backs with Kabak and Matip as backup.

Starting for Leipzig this afternoon. Very good in the first half. Got just about everything you’d want in a CB.

I think Gomez will start back as a First XI defender, with Virgil, with the others made to 'earn' those spots.

I'm well into the LFC boom bust cycle but I am excited to see us start next season with VVD and Gomez at CB (or VVD and any CB) with Fabs and Hendo in CM.

Does this mean you think the Konate rumours are BS? Can’t see the owners in this climate spending c35m for a substitute

We've seen this year just how loyal Klopp is though - and I suspect it might be a bit of 'learn the system' to the new kid along with not wanting one of his trusted players being benched.

I don't necessarily to agree with this - but we have seen Klopp's man management style in a new light this season, particularly with regards the likes of Mane, Davies, Naby, Ox etc.

Maybe - and it’s possible with the owners a little shame-faced they need to agree to his demands a bit. But given the finances I simply don’t see them spending big money on benchwarmers. See also, there is no Gini replacement incoming, they will say “we bought you Thiago. Crack on”

Only way Gomez plays every game (until he gets injured). Is if he's in his final year of contract.

In addition to Matip and Gomez injury boys.
There is also the question of who shall fill the shoes of VVD in a few years.

Important signing on the whole.

Yeah - you clearly missed the “in this climate”.

Hard to believe we signed Ox 4yrs ago.
Yes, it was a bit tongue in cheek, I'll admit. But it's worth noting that some expensive players are signed with the expectation (or hope?) that they'll become first team players, and then they don't. So it's not really a case of spending £40m on a 'substitute', as such.

In this financial climate? It really is

Add Phillips ... we've already seen that 4 dedicated CBs is not enough, we need 5.

Well look where that policy got them this season ... 5th - 7th. I can't see them not learning from that, there is far too much money being lost to continue with that ideology.

It’s possible, but is that what they’ll really do? They were flush last year after our CL exploits and kept the wallet closed tight. What we’re saying now is that with a catastrophic drop off in cash, and looming prospect of no CL tv money, along with their financial nirvana of a Super League being snatched away, they will deepen those financial woes by going into the transfer market in a big way....

Like I said, it’s possible, but seems strange people think that is likely (unless we see the sale of someone like Salah to fund the other transfers, and even that may be for a much smaller price than we previously thought).

Not qualifying for the champions league in this of all years could prove to be an absolute disaster for us for the next few seasons.

4 is generally standard, if we are keeping Gomez and Matip then we need a 5th. Most clubs don't start a season with only 3 CBs knowing that 2 of them are guaranteed to get injured for long periods of time.
