The first of many "Carroll to be sold" threads

We will have to take a massive hit on the fee if he left.

Keep him, he is young enough to Improve.

I don't like him at all, but selling him has to make financial sense. His stock will never be lower than it is now, so it might be worth keeping him for another year and hope for an improvement.

Pour me a pint of blind faith please.

He would perfect fit for O'Neil and sunderland.

He likes his big lumps up front and would could turn him into a star

Yeah I've thought that in the past too, but I can't see a boyhood Geodie going there.

I'm going to sympathise with Macca's point.

Downing and Carroll have not linked up well all year. They are not an amazing double act. It's perfectly fine to substitute one for the other.

Objectively, we've done far better when they've both started a match than when they haven't.

He should have subbed Kuyt and Shelvey instead. At the end Bellamy was on the right and Kuyt on the left. Why on earth he decided that Downing wouldnt be more suited is beyond me, and I cant understand how anyone can justify or defend that.

Sure enough Downing hasnt set the world alight with his crossing, but when we finally put someone in the box he gets subbed.
Its happened several times aswell, and its just strange.

Points per game with Carroll and Downing starting - 1.91
Points per game with Carroll and Downing not starting - 1.05

The numbers must have an agenda

Well if we could have averaged 1.91 points per game all season we'd be joint 3rd with Arsenal at the moment, so I'm not surprised.

Then they won't be starting on Saturday. Cup football is a whole different ball game.🙄

Constantly leaving Carroll out makes no sense unless he's not putting a shift in during training, we're kinda stuck with him and if we really want rid of him we have to play him and hope he rebuilds some value first.

It makes absolutly no sense. We were alright against Everton and Stoke, and after that he's started one game, and we've earned ourselves 1 fucking point.

i think downings been alright really, he can beat a man and his crosses arnt too bad, you cant blame him when theres noone in the box

Given his age and what we've seen of him during his years in the prem, i just think he isn't likely to get any better mate.

He really hasn't been alright. He's failed to make an impact in many of our games and that's not good enough.

It's very annoying because he has loads of ability - good acceleration over 10 yards, a sweet left peg and a fair amount of skill on his day. Problem is, he doesn't show his ability anywhere near often enough. For example yesterday, he tore Hutton to shreds on one occasion and delivered a killer cross into the box, then did next to nothing in the rest of the game. That summed up his season.

Every player looks great from time to time. What separates the good players from the rest is that they produce those great moments consistently. Downing hasn't done that and never will because he's average.

Except bellamy doesn't cross as much as downing. I was happy with who we brought on but not who we took off. Kuyt made more sense to me than downing as dirk had minimal impact as the game progressed.

I was also pissed off he wasted our last sub by bringing agger on, BUT that substitution led to a goal so i can't complain. Good on him for that.

You seem to be at the stage now macca where you try more to have a pop at the people who aren't enamoured with dalglish than make decent, non stroppy, posts. What gives? Why not debate with people rather than this attitude you seem to have?

Because there's no real debate. There's deliberate contrariness masquerading as logic, and I don't see why you fall for it. It's an insult to the intelligence, even if it does make the posts tick over at a faster rate on a quiet day.

Pulis spent a combined 20 million on Kenwyne Jones and Peter Crouch, so there's always hope.

O'Neill would buy him too.

How is there no debate to be had? People think kennys tactics, substitutions, press conferences and player management skills aren't up to scratch this time. Why do you think they are?

Not everyone is out to be awkward and troll. Some (like myself) actually cannot see us progress without another massive summer, and even then I'm sceptical if he will buy the right players

Macca's not saying there's no debate to be had. He's saying it isn't taking place on here. I'm not sure I totally agree, but one does have to look quite hard to find it at times.

Exactly.

Macca, give us positives and an opinion from you on this season about football. Not sly digs at people who disagree.

Have a long read back through all my posts over the past few months if you want to try to justify that silly claim. You'll find plenty of constructive discussions, and you well know it.

So you're saying the first half of your season wasn't bad but form has slipped away recently?
