Ha, Ryan must be trolling with that claim. I'm a big defender of Allen but his miss was waaaaaay worse than Suarez'.

How is Yann M'villa doing in Russia? He could rival Sakho in the beast category.

We were the dominant side in the first half, they were the dominant side in the second. Draw was a fair result.

Dowd is a grade A cu*t. He would have let them cut Suarez in half today a not given a red. Shameful performance from a supposedly top ref.

My only question is, why did Johnson and Flanagan, of all people, were assigned to guard Lukaku at the corner from which he scored?

Exactly why wasnt Skirtel on him - poor from Rogers. Great game - both goalkeepers mom for me - Howard made some great saves, but is there a better shotstopper than Mignolet in the league? Terrible footballer though - his distribution hampers us at times

I thought that Phil Dowd had a mare today and as someone else had mentioned, Suarez was going to get nothing at all from him. It's like he remembered the dive that Suarez did last year right in front of Moyes after he had scored. I remember Dowd being the 4th official and shaking his head in disgust at what Suarez had just done.

The menace
[article]Romelu Lukaku's total of 5 shots on target vs Liverpool was more than eight PL clubs managed today.

Romelu Lukaku has scored more goals against Liverpool than any other Premier League side (4).

Romelu Lukaku has scored in his last 3 Premier League appearances against Liverpool.[/article]

Mignolet's saves this season: 48 (Liverpool: 13.8 shots faced per game)
Pepe Reina's total for the whole of last season: 73 (Liverpool: 11.4 shots faced per game)

This is from the 1st half, when "Agger had Lukaku in his back pocket" © KHL. Maybe in Danish "to have somebody in a back pocket" means "let a striker gain 10 meters on you in 2 seconds"?

This is the incident I mentioned in another thread. What the hell is he doing?

KHL, mate, I'm not an Agger hater. I defended him many times in the past when people questioned what he brings to the team. I appreciate his classy passing and loyalty. But as a defender, he's got to do much better to keep Sakho and Toure on the bench.

Let's see what Rodgers thinks about this performance; my guess is Agger won't start the next game.

BTW our defending for the 2nd goal was also inexcusably poor. They looked like kids at the playground. 4 or 5 players rushed to the right side all at the same time leaving Lukaku completely alone in the middle of our penalty area. Mirallas just had to find a way to thread the ball to the middle (which was his only really option anyway) for a certain goal.

All 3 goals came from us cheaply conceding possession in the first place. We really have to learn to take care of the ball better.

The second incident with Agger doesn't seem problematic to me. He is behind the ball, can see Skrtrl coming in to cover Lukaku so goes into the middle in case the ball is played across or the keeper spills it. Perhaps you can question his initial positioning but once he was there the decision looked right to me. What else could he have done?

In the first one he allows Lukaku to get a run on him which is poor. Switched off there.

We defended badly on two set pieces which is extremely poor. On the first one we drop to deep and when Skrtel loses the header we're in trouble.

Johnsons effort for Lukakus second was horrendous.

The first incident we are in possession aren't we and then Gerrard or Allen gives the ball away and hands them a counter. Agger moves upfield to be available why he is ahead of Lukaku.

Maybe we should overall be more cautiois but it is difficult to foresee silly mistakes. Rurik should post the build up and not only the chance. By the same token you'd also claim it was the central defenders fault when Johnson gave away the ball second half with us getting caught out in the back?

You're trying to gloss over mistakes though by pointing to the build up, it was collective errors throughout the game and slack marking that cost us, something we've been guilty of all too often in recent years. The defenders made mistakes, Johnson had a stinker, and the midfield failed to hold it's shape and pick people up.

You said Agger had a "great" game, he didn't, none of the back four did, I thought Flannagan did quite well given the circumstances, but he too got bypassed far too often. For the first goal, Henderson and Skrtel got caught under the ball and Agger didn't react quickly enough, he's just stood there ball watching. It was poor all round and symptomatic of our lack of dominance and concentration from setpieces. Something Agger is as guilty of as anyone.

At least we can put to bed this myth about us being stronger defensively with Agger in there, because of a few clean sheets in August. We conceded three and he was as culpable as anyone.

Agger didn't react quick enough for Mirallas? What? He was marking Lukaku and did very well so. You can't be two places at once unless you are Harry Potter.

I agree that we as a team make collective erorrs and no one was flawless over the 90 min.

However people on here spend all week dropping "weak" Agger from their teams why I think it is quite telling none of those posters actually gives him credit for not losing one battle with Lukaku throughout. Some even claimed he didn't even mark Lukaku first half.

Either it's good trolling or extreme bias, either way it got on my nerves yesterday.

Mark, your comment about Agger not reacting fast enough for their first goal underlines your agenda perfectly imo.

It is pretty silly.

Kris, come on. "Not losing one battle"? Really? We didn't as a unit lose too many to Lukaku until the midfield reschulffle, which is pretty telling. Once we were exposed we were stretched all over the place from open play and set pieces. Have a look at the gifs above, he's nowhere near Lukaku whom he's the closest defender to, and for the goal it WAS slack, what's he doing? He's stood there watching the play. You wonder why people get angry about how blinkered you are regarding Agger, silly? Really? Watch the game again.
