The case for keeping 35Million Carroll

Buying another striker was not a mistake. Voluntarily leaving ourselves reliant only on Suarez and Wash would have been plain daft. Where we went wrong was buying the wrong one.

We were buying for the wrong reasons - and that's before you even get to the choice of player. I think they basically said after the fact that they wanted to make a statement to the fans and that's just the wrong way to go about things.

The team wasn't going to accomplish anything that season so leaving it short of a striker wasn't going to be the end of the world. What we really needed after years of mismanagement and wasting money was a strong management team who were thinking about the next 2-3 seasons as opposed to the next 6 months when considering how to spend 35M.

I would think that we had a lot more time than that, we knew Torres was going for a lot longer than 6 hours.

But that actually makes signing Carroll(for that price) worse.

Well yeah. I do remember Kenny saying that Commoli asked him what he thought about signing Carroll on (I think) the day before Torres was sold.

A loan signing would have made much more sense if we needed someone that badly.
Carroll was injured aswell.

Then we could have used the 35 mill in a much better way in the summer

Whatever the failings of that signing, it was not done with a view to the next 6 months. In fact Kenny said exactly that when there was criticism of buying an injured player.

Still a big waste of 35M, though

Andy Carroll knows where he will be playing his football next season ... and I can tell you ... he will be returning to St James' Park when the players return to training.

Nu-Mad has had connections with the Liverpool player's representitives for years, and as the land lies at the moment - he is coming home!
Carroll was put on the spot by the BBC on Sunday evening, and refused to say he would like to stay at Upton Park.
Meanwhile West Ham captain Kevin Nolan does not believe that signing Carroll on a permanent deal this summer is crucial for the club.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce has made no secret of his desire to push through a deal for England international Carroll, who scored seven times during a loan spell from Liverpool this season.

However, there are a number of stumbling blocks to a deal being completed, most notably the size of the fee Liverpool would demand and the 24-year-old's wage demands.
Nolan, who played with Carroll during their spells at Newcastle, played it down and said: "It will be massive if we do get Andy, but it is not the be all and end all.

"I have been with Sam a long time. When he did not manage to get his first man, he has always managed to get his second man and we always manage to do well.

"If he gets the chance to bring the quality of the players he wants, then I am sure we will be aiming for the higher echelons of the Premier League.

"I have a lot of faith that Sam will get the men he wants in the summer and will be working hard with the chairman to do that.

"Andy is a clever lad, he knows he has got to play football.
"If he gets offered someone who are in the Champions League or the Europa League, then he has got to make the decision.

"I know he has enjoyed his time here, you can see that on the pitch, he gets on well with all the lads, so we will see what happens."
