Suarez.. Wow...

All the back pages of the papers saying Suarez is nearing mega bucks contract talks 🙂

I suspect that's to give us the benefit of a longer contract to push his price up when Real come calling.

If they don't though, we'll have a better chance of keeping hold of him.

Gotta be good news if he signs.

I'm sure it's due to the Real connection, not least because it isn't that long since we gave him an improved contract anyway. Seems to me they clearly expect a bid at some point. Hopefully this will persuade Real not to bugger about with their usual games and either put up or shut up.

Stating the obvious but it'll all boil down to whether we make Champions League or not.

Even if we do make I wouldn't be totally convinced he'll stay but I'd say we'd have a very good chance of keeping him.

I genuinely think he loves it at Liverpool.

Yeah, right that'll stop them. Remember when they wanted Alonso? We set a price, and they moaned it was too high.

You're comparing apples and oranges. Rightly or wrongly Alonso was on his way out anyway, whereas this time we'll just have given the player his second new, highly lucrative contract AND everybody - Suarez, his agent, Real - will all have seen how we fecked Arsenal off last summer.

I've accepted that we just have to enjoy him while we can.

His face was great when he took the ball past the keeper but it went out of play.

Now that the pound is appreciating against Euro and Greenbacks....you never know. If we get 4th or better, he might just sign an extension....of course on a better deal. But we will just have to pay up to keep a talent like this.

He's worth at least x3 a player like Hendo or Allen is worth, easily. Which would put him at 210K per week. That's still cheap considering his genius.

Rightly or wrongly ?

Ha

How famous was Dalglish outside Britain?
Suarez is regarded as one of the best players in the world. His name is being mentioned alongside Messi and Ronaldo.

Media coverage was nothing like what it is today so Kenny was never going to be on peoples lips like Suarez. That said, in comparison to others of his day, Kenny was a genius. His vision, IMO, was better than what Suarez displays. The touch on his passes was also unbelievable to behold. That said, I don't think he could hold a candle to Luis in the dribbling stakes.

You talk about technically gifted and Luis is ahead of any other LFC player but he's still not the best to wear the shirt - not yet.

Talk of a new contract and 100M clause is a tactical move to protect our investment. A new contract will be reflective of his stature as one of the worlds best. A cracking WC will push his price up significantly. Tie him down as quickly as possible.

On current form Suarez can drive us to a top 3 finish if not league title. I suspect if we make the CL, Suarez will stay. He is 1st choice, happy, settled and scoring for fun.

Frighteningly for our opposition, he's never looked more confident, he's never looked hungrier. Barnes, Kenny, Torres and Beardsley where probably the most skilled attacking players we've had in my memory who had the capacity to take the breath away. He certainly belongs in that pile, and perhaps, right at the top of it.

Given what we were offered last summer, and that Suarez is currently in the form of his life, would anyone take 80m for him now? I imagine his value is at its highest it ever will be now.

Only a world record fee will be considered but not necessarily accepted. Use Suarez (Communications Manager) Cavani's recent interview as a reference point.

No. Real themselves paid more than that for Bale.

Bale was 23/24 when they did it, like it or not, but transfer fees gone right down after that age. Ronaldo moved at 24, Suarez will be 27. I think 80m would be a great fee, given that most would have accepted 50m this summer.

I'm not sure I'd be confident is us spending the money well, but if I was, I'd be all for it.

Honestly, £60million would be a "fair" price, but hopefully he'll sign this contract which will allow us to demand an unfair price of £70million plus.

And he'd now cost more than they bought him for. Would they now accept a 60m bid for them? I doubt they'd even accept 100m for him.
What would we do with 80m, anyway? Rodgers has already spent more than half of that yet most of the players on match day, bar the exceptional pair in Coutinho and Sturridge (that's 2 out of how many signings?) are pre-Rodgers signings. But even with them in the side we still have Suarez doing something amazing to bale us out, like with other top class players that do it for their sides like Ibra, Ronaldo, Falcao, etc.
Maybe with the money we could unearth the next Suarez but I'd be far happier building around him knowing we have the best centre forward in the world.
Of course that's provided he doesn't go into an even bigger strop come summer time. If he does, and we're in the CL, then there's no hope and we should sell him. But only for that reason, as he really is irreplaceable.
