Also hate the word "fresher". I remember, back in the heady days of October 1984, getting on the 80 bus on Rose Lane to go into town with a crowd of first years, and one, particularly horribly posh accented girl, stated loudly to the driver "Don't mind us - we're all freshers!", I couldn't detach myself form her & her mates and sit at the opposite end of the bus quickly enough, trying to pretend to the shell suited scowling scalls from Garston that I really wasn't with them.

Does anyone else get really wound up with university being called 'uni'? ('Anyone...er...?') It used to be the aural equivalent of dad dancing, nearly always said by middle class parents as their kids scowled and looked heavenwards. Now it's pretty much standard. It's still like chalk on a board to me!

Weirdly I get wound up by almost everything and yet 'uni' doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I prefer the term 'Uni' over the American term 'College' - That word just conjurs up an image of spotty 17yr olds who failed all their GCSE's and decided a career in hairdressing was for them....
