Suarez new contract offer.

If we don't get into the top four this season I'd start talking very strongly of keeping him another year to try again. That approach might just entice some other top player(s) to join us next summer. At that point, and given other circumstances, we'd have to assess whether letting him go next summer for absolute top dollar after a he's had a storming world cup is better than hanging on another year and seeing his value drop (probably), but with a far better chance of making the top four.

It's a big risk Tal - but I'd concur. At the end of the day, I could give a fuck if that deprives the CL of his talents for another year. We have to look after our interests, and hopefully we won't have to worry about this as his form this year will ensure he's playing for us in the CL too.

I believe we will get top 4 but theres always that nagging doubt that it could all go pear shaped though with our front 3 its hard to imagine how it can.

If it's true and we are talking to him and his agent about a new contract then that is a boost. It signals he believes we're on the up and is happy at the club. Or am I being naive and it's just a subtle message to would be suitors that now is the time to come calling?

I'm slightly different.

If we stay close to the top this year - and at minimum in the top four. I'd be inclined to keep him with a view to making a stab at the league over the next two years provided we plan sort out the midfield.

If we win the league I won't care that he walks for nothing at the end of the deal.

As has been mentioned, I think now is probably the best time to sort a new contract for him and us. He'll get a massive signing on fee and payrise, but for us, surely it should help us by protecting his release clause that he'll obviously get. There's no way he could ask for a 40mill one based on current form. I think the key is the champions league though, I'd hope it goes something like 80mill if we qualify for the champions league, 40mill if we don't, but for foreign teams only, and that we wont entertain offers from domestic clubs.

He'll probably go if we don't finish top 4 - and that being the case, the best thing would be to flog him for as much as possible and re-invest in the team.

That saying, a top four finish is certainly realistic - and we should offer him, not only top dollar to stay, but make a statement by signing quality players to play beside him.

My preference is obviously top finish top 4, keep him and make every team kneel before Zod.

It's ok, we know, but haven't said anything so that you can tell us in your own time.

Would rather wait till after the window to offer him the deal, he could turn the deal down, make it public and Chelsea offer 60 million on 31st January at 11:55..........

As rosco says would rather keep him for 2 seasons and risk it, at worst RVP went for 25 million with 12 months left on his deal aged 28/29

Tough one. No way will he ever accept a 100mill release clause, but at the same time 50is too low for us. He may be a few years older than bale, but he's a much better player. Ask some Madrid fans. Bale is a very good player, but he's no Suarez. Bump his wages up and hang on to him, but if he doesn't sign, there's no guarantee he'll be as hard working and professional for us as he has been this season if us forcing him to stay upsets him.
Slapping his wages through the roof will also mean a cascade effect with our other players and future signings pushing for more. Expensive business, which will no doubt mean less money for new signings.
Could always cash in now and reinvest, but then, look at spurs. And look at us when Kenny and commoli had a wad to spend.
Tricky.

Nah.

The club will set his release clause at whatever the minimum they want for him should he leave, they'll have a figure in mind.

The wages I don't see as an issue either. He's an exceptional talent, if we get another player performing like he does then we'll have to pay similar wages regardless just to keep them.

Yeh but he'll never sign a contract with too high a release clause. We can set it at 100million or wherever we like, but after this summer and all the issues with his release clause etc, he'll just walk away from it. He's just tying himself down otherwise.

Yup - giving him the move to Real / Bayern / Barca he wants will really show him who's boss!

I have said earlier either this summer or next. The problem with the following summer is you run the risk of his price being vastly reduced. Hes an asset and either he signs and remains one here or he has to become a sellable one. If only it was as simple as showing him who's boss. That's a naive simplistic view especially when a contract is running down.

I'd love him to stay of course. That's always the preference

200k a week and a 100M release clause. All parties happy.

We'll be there or thereabouts at the top. Buying the right players in the January window while getting at least 6/9 points in the next 3 games will reveal much. I believe that we have a great chance at winning the league. So many detractors have been waiting for us to fail especially after losing to Southampton and Hull but we're second and playing some great football while scoring sensational goals. Not playing in Europe is a blessing in disguise and we're getting away with a thin squad more than most.

DA is alive and well!
