Suarez Appreciation Thread

Hi All

The Bale transfer fee was a joke - he ain't worth that much we all know that and for we know - it could have been just a single season in which he has over-performed. I saw him play yesterday against Barca, and the expression on his face reminds me of Henderson when he arrived at LFC. Now do any of you think if they had spent 90M on Suarez the same would be true ? - From what I have seen of Messi, and C.Ronaldo - I am actually convinced we have the best player in the world at our club. Neither Messi, nor Ronaldo play with the intensity that Suarez does. If we have to sell him at the end of this season then 60M should be the absolute minimum regardless of his age.

Hi Ahmed,

TBF moving to Real would be far less of an upheaval for Suarez, a native Spanish speaker who's already spent years away from his home country, than it must be for Bale, a home-lovin' lad from Wales who took a while just to settle in London.

I wish I could agree about Suarez being the world's best, but he has yet to produce all that those other two have produced consistently over a long period. There may be an argument for saying his current form is the best of the three of them, but that's a rather different matter.

Ah, but Downing's better.

I said during the summer that if we hung on to him it would be our best bit of business. He is in the category of truly world class strikers. I agree Wiz. I'm not sure I've ever seen a better header than that.

Here's one goal that I thought of immediately after seeing that header yesterday...

Cannot find Steve McMahon's header from the edge of the box, directly from a corner Vs Everton in the late 80's anywhere - It was even better... He meant it.

Weren't people saying we won't get 40 to 50 million again for him? His stock is rising again.
Ryan was saying there is no way in the world his valuation would rise.

If he continues this form and brings it into the world cup he'll be worth 60m if not 70m.

See that fella on the top right at the back of the stand? I'm right next to him!!

The commentator on motd called Suarez "a box of snakes"
it made me chuckle. Really hope we can give him champions league football *not the commentator*

You're the lad in red spion, with hand around knee?
I was in a very light coloured coat with LFC top underneath.

Blisteringly hot that day! Was trying to climb on the back of the stand as Stevie Nicol scored. It was pandemonium. 54,701 attended the game, pay on the gate saw well. We played them in a midweek game around the same period, and there was 54000 there then too.

See how the old clock end had not been redeveloped.

If we keep Suarez and end in top 4, this year could be described in our history as a real fortune changer.

Never has CL qualification been so important.
It's a watershed for so many teams this year.

I'm actually glad we got dumped out of the mickey mouse cups / not in Europa so we don't get distracted.

It was better than Luis IMO. I said the moment he scored it was close to the quality of Sami's against Arsenal. Two different goals and Suarez was tremendous timing but Sami's went like a missile and still the best header I've ever seen.

I was pretty sure I saw a header like that somewhere before.

Then I realized it was in that ridiculous Shaolin Soccer show.
Stunned.

[article=http://as.com/diarioas/2013/11/01/english/1383342511_601884.html]Luis Suárez ended the 2014 World Cup Brazil qualifying round as the top scorer in the South America section, netting 11 goals for Uruguay. Despite that feat, the Liverpool striker admits that other players have had greater achievements during the past year and declared today that he would be voting for Leo Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Franck Ribèry in this year’s Ballon d’Or.

“I feel very proud to be in FIFA’s shortlist for the Ballon d’Or but I think a number of other players have stood out more than me,” Suárez told Montevideo-based radio station 890. “If I had to choose, I’d go for Messi, Cristiano and Ribèry”.

The Reds centre-forward will be involved when Uruguay aim to secure their place at 2014 Brazil in this month’s Play-Off meeting with Jordan. “They [Jordan] have never qualified for a World Cup finals and this is the best opportunity they have ever had,” Suárez said. “Uruguay go into the Play-Offs in good form, we won’t be underestimating our rivals at all and we are quietly optimistic of being in Brazil next year”.

The player insisted that he feels “comfortable and happy” at Liverpool where he is forging a formidable partnership with Daniel Sturridge. “The Premier League is the best league there is – for the stadiums, the atmosphere and the fans who make football here so entertaining,” he continued, adding that he knows “absolutely nothing at all” about rumoured interest from Real Madrid to sign him during the winter inscription period.

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s clash with league leaders Arsenal, he said, “It’s a key game to keep us in the running. All of us are really fired up for it; we all want to make sure this is a good season for us”.[/article]

[article=http://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/de-boer-arsenal-perfect-fit-luis-suarez]Ajax coach Frank de Boer believes Luis Suarez would have been a perfect fit for Arsenal, but is now tipping his former star to realise his ambitions at Liverpool.

The Uruguayan could well have been lining up for the Gunners in Saturday evening's top-of-the-table clash, after pushing for a £40 million-plus move to Emirates Stadium in the summer.

But Liverpool refused to sell, and the striker has since reaffirmed his commitment to the Anfield club, returning from his 10-match ban with six goals in four league outings.

De Boer told FourFourTwo: "No one wants to sell their best player, so it was a normal stance for Liverpool to take. Everyone at the club could see how important he is and if you have any desire to get back to the top in England, you have to keep that type of player because he is the kind of character key to winning titles.

"I don't think the match will see him trying to show Arsenal what they missed out on. To be honest, I don't think the summer speculation will be in his mind at all. He'll just want to show the world just how good Luis Suarez is again.

"His main aim is always to be important for his team-mates. He always did that at Ajax and you can see he is doing the same at Liverpool now. He loves the big stage."

De Boer had just taken charge of Ajax when Suarez pleaded for a move to Anfield back in January 2011.

The Dutch giants were unable to hold onto their prized asset, and De Boer admits he wasn't surprised to see his ex-hitman seeking pastures new during the summer.

"I think Champions League football is something he's desperate for," said De Boer.

"I also think the styles of the two clubs played a part. Liverpool have a more English style and Arsenal have been playing some of the most attractive football in Europe for many years.

"But he's committed to Liverpool now and I think it is a good club for him. It is a club with a great history and magnificent fans.

"For me, I'd like to see him stay at Liverpool and for them to bring in some more quality players to play around him.

"Suarez is such a key player and he would be for any team in the world. I don't know if Liverpool can continue how they have started, but Suarez will be massive for them.

"He is so important and has the ability to win matches almost single-handedly.

"Maybe in the last few years it has been just him doing it on his own for Liverpool, but now they have Sturridge around him and he is no longer the only danger to the opposition.

"It is great for Liverpool and they are definitely getting closer to fighting for the title again. Having Suarez in the team obviously helps and this season they should be up there fighting for the top four places."

De Boer added: "Suarez is a real winner. He is just driven to score goals and to win. That's what he's all about. It's a quality you don't see so much. He is so eager to win and do well for the team. He is a real professional. OK, sometimes he can overreact on the pitch but he just wants to win and works so hard. He is a great player."[/article]

[article=http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12037/9008817/la-liga-guillem-balague-blogs-on-alexis-sanchez-and-karim-benzema]SUAREZ TO SPAIN?

Hi Guillem. I love your column. Is there any truth in Real Madrid trying to sign Luis Suarez? As a Liverpool fan I really hope not but he could certainly perform on that stage. Thanks, Brian

GUILLEM SAYS: Real Madrid do need a striker and they are trying to sort it out by getting Karim Benzema to fire on all cylinders again - and the mixture of the backing from Zinedine Zidane, the backing from Carlo Ancelotti and the competition from Alvaro Morata is certainly helping and we saw a better Benzema against Rayo Vallecano at the weekend. Ancelotti feels that a striker of Luis Suarez's mould would be good for the team but I don't think they have the funds and Suarez has said it is an exciting season at Liverpool and he does not see any reason to leave, especially in a World Cup year.[/article]
