Sturridge

He's changed his mind then, either that or I mistook him for someone else when I skim-read a paper someone left on the table in a caff a week or two ago, which means there's someone else out there with doubts about the deal 😉 . Ray Houghton and Alvin Martin have definitely both questioned it on the radio.

Haha, I would take Aldo's opinion over those two on talk sport any day JJ. 😉
Not only that what he says us correct

Not so sure about that myself, old pal (Aldo's commitment occasionally outran his intellect in match situations too 😉), but fair play - he's someone worth listening to on this and other matters.

In the absence of going and finding a Michu or whatever then what else are we going to do with 12m quid? 1 in 2 strikers aren't that common. I don't know if he actually is because the amount he's been used as a sub but Aldo is saying he is as well as a load of people on Chelsea boards quoting various stats. Chelsea fans don't want him to leave, generally. He got a run of 12 games at Bolton and scored 8.

Bellamy, Kuyt, Crouch, Carroll... They were all 1 in 3 at their best. The last 1 in 2 we had was Owen. It could be a great signing.

I think it's a good move, he's very direct and that's more or less what we lack in and around the box, someone who'll just fucking have a dig, instead of pissing about and passing it back to Reina.

I wish you would fuck off talking logic and common sense Krump.

His quality hasn't ever been the issue, not for me anyway.

I do think there are concerns, but too many times players get tarnished by isolated moments and over speculating. Look at Bellamy, look at Suarez, they're no saints but you'd have them in your team everyday of the week. A little over confidence is never a bad thing and maybe he just hasn't found that right club yet.

When Bellamy was about 25 everyone hated him and he came across as a loathsome bully who wasn't as good as he thought he was, culminating in a dire away performance against a minnow in the FA Cup where he and they were dreadful and he was blasted by Shearer. I remember watching him and thinking he was both overrated and an arrogant fucker. Contrast that to a few years down the line when he became this enriched veteran who was at the top of his game and even more importantly, showed himself to be a real hearty, passionate character who loved the game and was adored by Cardiff, Liverpool and City fans alike - as well as many of his peers. The media paint a picture of people sometimes based on conjecture and the odd moment of unflattering hotheadedness. He's still a kid and has bags of potential and self belief. If we can channel that the right way, and this is a club who will embrace and support him more than most, then we could well be onto a winner. I know we've made mistakes of late with British based buys, but we've also pulled off a few crackers in the past, this could well be one of them.

I like sturridge. I think he's got talent.

The only reservation I've got is about the work rate. He has to work hard.

In a working class city like Liverpool, it's a must, if you don't work then the fans will soon turn in you.

We will see.

What does your mum think Peter?

I like him, but he'll be shite. Just like the rest of the cunts that play for us.

I hope he wasn't watching tonight, because if the paperwork isn't done he's got time to pull out.

So true.

I think that's where Torres went wrong. He came here and worked hard cause that was what was required. The consequence was that he scored a bucket load of goals due to some real talent. Then he started believeing the hype and thought everything would come to him. Ironically, it's taken 2 years at the Chavs for him to re learn how to work hard.

If Sturridge doesn't work hard he'll piss off the fans and he won't get goals. Guaranteed fail. If Rodgers can drum the work ethic into him then he'll be a great signing cause he does know where the net is. I hope he gets off to a good start - a long wait for his first goal will see him lead the news every night.

A player whose opinion of himself as a teenager is so high that he leaves a club - any club, let alone one with established stars also on the books - because he doesn't think he should have to earn his place is a player whose attitude worries me. Confidence is one thing (and a very necessary thing) but being THAT far up your own @rse is another.

Ex-pros whom I've either heard or seen in print pointing out the risk involved in this transfer (for the same reasons as mine) include Alvin Martin, John Aldridge and Ray Houghton.

Actually, I'd have thought that was just using his head, JJ. The part that was confusing was going to Chelsea.

As keni says, there's earning your place and there's being realistic. City were looking around the world for the greatest strikers on the planet - Sturridge knew that he was never going to get in front of them - almost regardless of performance.

Chelsea seem like a weird destination but wasn't Drogba about the only main striker they had when he made the move? He must have wanted to give a cat a good kicking when Torres joined. Again, regardless of performance, he found himself out of the team. History shows it would have been harder to shift Torres than get Raul out of the Madrid team. Common sense tells you that if you believe in yourself you need to go where you're confident you will get the opportunity to demonstrate the reasons for that confidence. If you don't believe in yourself then you sit back and pick up 50k a week.

He's taken his shot at getting in ahead of Torres (could have come here on a loan); now he's realized it's not all about footballing ability or even results. He could be a moron or greedy and just stay for the cash; shows some character, IMO, to recognize he can't change Rafa's opinion and makes a move accordingly.

Anelka was still there, and they also had Kalou as a backup/tweener striker at that time. He did get his chances under AVB, and if you read the posts in the CFCnet forum at that time, they were all chuffed with him as he was the only one providing goals in that first 12 or 13 games.

Anyway, about his move from City to Chelsea - it's almost the reverse with Sinclair. Went from Chelsea to Swansea, put in two good seasons there, and then back to City to sit on the bench. I have an odd feeling he'll end up with Liverpool in a season's time given the periods of time he's spent under Rodgers previously.

Might be a bit soon like, but I'd certainly bring him on

Providing its completed

No, i mean like will the Premier League allow it? Think i read it takes up until 48 hours for them to ratify transfers? could be wrong tho.

Oooooh

If the paperwork is all rubber stamped, then it should be okay. Time varies for how quick they do it.

I don't think anyone can seriously consider Ray's opinion as anything but claptrap. he is one of the worst commentators I've ever heard, some of the shite he comes out with is mind-numbingly stupid.

We'll have to see but I think this is a good deal. 12M for a 23 y.o. England fringe player with great potential. Strong, fast, a little bit too greedy but then virtually all strikers are. Certainly should be a big step up from Carroll and Borini and help us put matches beyond the reach of the opposition before their confidence rises and we end up on the receiving end.

I think we'll see 3 signings (Sturridge, Ince and a surprise).

Someone on TLW said all the paperwork is with the FA and should be done on the 1st.

Hopefully he'll be on the bench against Sunderland
