Sturridge

He's got 18 months left on his contract. Happy with this signing, think he'll do well.

Disagree. Rodgers has to do 'an Enrique', or 'a Suarez', even, for Sturridge to do well for us.
He has to stop being a complete and utter cunt for his teammates on the pitch.

Sturridge is THE FSG-type signing. Great talent, fucked up brain.
If Liverpool can change the way he plays, while helping him develop on his obvious talents, he'll be a star. And an absolute bargain.
If not, he'll be another 70k plus per week expense on our bills for 4 seasons. And another reason for Suarez to put in a transfer request.

I don't get junior's take on Sturridge ... He did really well, despite all you say, for Chelsea in AVB's first 6 months. He does make the wrong decision every once in a while (other strikers do that too - they have egos, and want to score), but he's a good player, score goals and has shown he can score on the flank (Front 3 in the 4-3-3 for Chelsea) or as a CF (Bolton).

I have no idea how he'll do here - I think he's coming to a team that wants him, and he'll have a different dressing room mentality that may benefit him.

I can see him scoring 10 goals in the second half (all competitions) and developing a nice chemistry with Suarez ... he's done it with an inept Torres last year, why not with the best player in England?

From the CFC forums: "12m for a player who will leave for free in 6 mths is a bloody good deal". They all want rid of a selfish signing. Meh signing.

Pity he has 18 months left. What strikers aren't inherently selfish?

However, despite his attempts not to address the issue of Sturridge directly, when pressed on the matter he did offer something of a rebuke to any rumours the player may have made demands about playing centrally before agreeing to a move: "You can keep writing and saying these things but no one will come into this club and demand where they play, that's for sure."

Wiz, it's not his selfishness right in front of goal that's his problem. If anything he's very good in those positions.
Look at the best teams in the world, past and present. When a player wants to do a nice one-two with another player, the least you'd expect is for the player receiving the pass to give the 'two', or vice versa, when a one two, or a simple pass is in order in the final third, for the player with the ball to take that option.
Sturridge pretty much completely goes against that. That's where hopefully Rodgers will get things sorted. If not, we've got a problem.
Suarez can be greedy. Who can blame him, with often no options around him. But he also creates a hell of a lot for others, and therefore you can forgive him for taking on 3 players, particularly when he actually succeeds in getting past all of them with an amazing percentage. But he also loves the quick incisive one-two's or cut backs. Basically he has a very good football brain.
Sturridge does not, and I only hope Rodgers has the ability to nurture his talents.
Even Ferguson's failed with Nani and looking more and more likely with Young.
12m plus high wages for Sturridge is a big risk.
Seems a bargain compared to the Downing, Carroll, Henderson and Adam disaster, but it's still a massive risk in isolation.

And therein lies the gaping flaw with Chelsea fans, they don't even know their shit about their own players.

Sturridge is a bit headless but no where near the degrees junior is implying. When playing under AVB he was playing great, hes played like a cunt under Di Matte though, I think that was more to do with frustration and not having many chances though. For the record Suarez is hardly captain generousity.

Christ on a bike. Do you really think two selfish players cant pass the ball to eachother??

Nani was fantastic for 18-24 months - unplayable almost (9 goals two years ago, 8 goals the year before). He's also a winger who needed a similar treatment to Ronaldo (i.e. no real defensive responsibilities and essentially a striker), which he was never going to get because ... well ... he ain't Ronaldo. He's still an excellent player but he doesn't work into the Manure system like he used to. It happens.

Sturridge will have value IF we need to move him on for whatever reason. He's 23, he DOES score goals and his wages aren't that big (60-70k seems fine tbh). I don't think a player who can play up front - when we only have one recognized striker (two when Borini comes back) is a bad thing. He'll score goals ... and imagine having a player who likes to spend time in the box? It may be odd to see a Liverpool shirt in the box that much, but I'm sure we'll get used to it! 😉

Let's hope he does well ... I'm sure his motivation won't be an issue - he will come here with a chip on his shoulder, eager to prove AVB, Di Matteo and Rafa wrong.

Have people really seen that much, or taken any serious notice of Sturridge to form such a deep seated opinion on his character?

I'll go out on a limb and say a big n o ole chap.
Hopefully he'll surprise a few people.

A debut against Sunderland or Mansfield sounds good

he lasted long.
Which is sad and didn't have anything to do with his ability. Had a lot of potential.

He's hit 3 assists twice in his storied carrier (once for city as a sub, and during last year with Chelsea). At least we know he has the potential to make three goals if has a good year ... 😉

Just to be clear, I'm not predicting that he'll be shit like some other players we've bought recently. On the contrary, I think he can be a very productive player for us if he's played up front,

Sturridge has the ability to create goalscoring opportunities and is lethal in front of goal, he just has to learn how to become a better team player.
