Sturridge

How credible is the Sturridge story? He would cetainly be a good acquisition. He is strong, got good pace, technique and a decent finisher.

I think it is basically being stirred up by the news that Di Matteo is going to be kept on by the Chavs. I hope there is something in it but it could easily be a speculative link, given we did apparently show some interest in him before.

He was fairly prolific this year before he started being played wide. His stats also are made less attractive by the fact that loads of his appearances were as a sub. I think he could be prolific. Even then, his league stats for the Chavs this year aren't to be sniffed at: 28 appearances, 11 goals and 5 assists.
He certainly has the potential to be prolific as his loan spell for Bolton showed- 8 in 12. I believe he was also a regular scorer at youth and reserve level, so given a chance, he knows how to tuck them away.

I can't agree with that. If AVB had stayed, I'd fully expect to see Sturridge in the England team ahead of Welbeck. I'm still struggling to understand quite how Welbeck has become an England first-teamer. He's a very erratic footballer.

Sturridge is the better player, and has much more potential IMO.

The problem Sturridge has is he needs a partner up front whereas Welbeck is more used to the set up favoured by Hodgson

Sturridge definitely is more explosive and a great option for the bench, but his all-round play cannot be relied upon. It's fine in a team with Chelsea's experience, but this England team is too new for him to be a starter. Wellbeck is much more a team player and you can tell he's always thinking. I like that about him.

I don't know, but looking at the number of forwards who have come in to prem over the last season or so for a fraction of that reported price and out performed him, i'd suggest we should be looking to get more from our £15mil than what Sturridge has to offer.

My Chelsea supporting friend is begging us to take Sturridge.
Makes me a bit worried.

Hes selfish forward, so understandably he looks not as good on the wing.

Up front he could do well. Off carroll he could do better.

Daniel Sturridge fears he will be forced to quit Chelsea to revive his England career.

Striker Sturridge, 22, blames new Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo for missing out on England’s Euro 2012 squad, having been frozen out by the Italian when he took temporary charge from Andre Villas-Boas last season.

Sturridge’s former club Manchester City have been watching his situation closely, while Chelsea are ready to offer him to Arsenal as part of a bid for Theo Walcott.

Spurs and Liverpool have also shown interest.

Sturridge was Chelsea’s top performer during the dismal spell under Villas-Boas, but was largely ignored by Di Matteo, who preferred Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres and Salomon Kalou.

The signing of Eden Hazard and proposed deal for Porto striker Hulk have already pushed Sturridge even further down the Stamford Bridge pecking order ahead of next term.

Sturridge’s current Chelsea contract expires in 2014 and the club have been reluctant to extend his deal, worth £65,000-a-week, even though he scored 13 goals last season and was handed his England debut against Sweden.

I thought that myself

So did I.

I think people are getting carried away, thinking they're actually playing Football Manager for real.

IT'S THE PREMIER LEAGUE.

THEY DON'T GET PAID TUPPENCE HA'PENNY !

It's not really though.

Each to their own. Footballers should be well paid, of course they should with the talent they have and the pressures they have to deal with 10 months a year but the money the vast majority of them are on is scandalous and i'll not change my opinion on that, it's just madness.
And all this supply and demand bullshit doesn't sit right with me either.

Gotta hear the explanation for this one.

Well your opinion is valid and is all well and good Gary, but at the end of the day it does boil down to the supply and demand shit, if it sits right with you or not.
They are entertainers, what do shit entertainers and shit boy bands earn a week?
It's life, although players wages do bleed the money out of the game, and there should be some sort of earnings cap, but that gets very messy and complicated.
I suppose at the end of the day 50% of it ends up back with the country in tax

15M for a pretty raw and seemingly unwanted striker in his last year of his contract is a bit steep IMO.
Premier league or not 65k a week is over twice the average wage for a player. I'm not so sure where all these reports of him being a dickhead come from mind you and i would definitely prefer to the heap of shite a.k.a. Kalou....

He COULD be a great signing ... 15M for a gamble tho....
