Sturridge

I'm not sure where he'll fit in, given that - if reports are true - he'll only move if he's promised a central role up front, but he's a very good player who'll keep improving.

I think any team with aspirations needs several top quality forwards who can play centrally. Suarez is best used behind the CF and we only then have one out-and-out striker left in Andy Carroll. He'd get plenty of opportunities. I think he's got a great creative unpredictable element which would help against park-the-bus defences too.

I think he'd be a cracking purchase.

Completely agree doc.

He could be a masterful acquisition. The technique in his goals is top notch

Good player, but his attitude stinks and he can't be trusted on the pitch. He's positionless, only works one way, is way too selfish, and I'm not surprised Chelsea might be willing to sell.

Nothing that can't be worked on. There was no problem with this so-called bad attitude at Bolton with Coyle stating many times, he didn't cause him any problems whatsover. Are you also not surprised Mancini is keen on taking him back to City?

Find him the right manager to work for and team to play for and there's potentially a top class striker in Sturridge.

Quite. But I just mean he wants to move because he's said to be frustrated with being rotated and frustrated with being played in a wide position. So if Rodgers goes for him, and I agree he's a great prospect, I assume he's decided to use him most of the time. Most of the supposed 'attitude' problems have stemmed from these two issues.

He'd get a lot more playing time here than at Chelsea I reckon. In a 50-60 game season, I can see both him and Carroll getting 25-30 starts. More at the expense of the other depending on performance.

Actually, scratch that. Just looked up the stats, and he started 37 games in all competitions last season! Though most of his appearances came under Villas-Boas, and not Di Matteo, who alienated him. Which is probably when his frustrations came to surface.

Yeah. For V_B, it was Drogba or Torres predominantly; Di Matteo brought Torres in from the cold.

I'd like him at LFC. He really does have great potential and is PL proven in my opinion.

12 Million would be a fair price.

Is he really six foot two? He looks shorter to me.

Shorter than Lampard who's 6 ft. He's probably about 5'11.

No, I don't think so. Welbeck has benifitted from first-team football in a top team and is definitely more advanced than Sturridge at the moment.

That said, I'd like to see Sturridge here. I wanted him when we sold them Torres in exchange, and I enjoyed watching him play for Bolton.

I can't agree with that. If AVB had stayed, I'd fully expect to see Sturridge in the England team ahead of Welbeck. I'm still struggling to understand quite how Welbeck has become an England first-teamer. He's a very erratic footballer.

Sturridge is the better player, and has much more potential IMO.

Seems a good player very good at Bolton on loan. I don't think its out if the way in todays market, and if he plays like he can do 15m seems reasonable. Still the price is fuck all to do with us. To get half decent players without CL we will have to pay a premium to get the selling clubs on-side

regards

Regarding the 'price' thing mate i guess it depends which way you look at it. Personally i'm not sure how long our owners will be prepared to dish out the funds for us in the transfer market, so i'd rather we made sure we got value for money whilst they are. Thats the main reason why i wouldn't want Sturridge, i simply think we can get a better player for that kind of cash.

Who?

Exactly who?
Anyone we are able to sign is going to come with a risk, just like Suarez was a risk, no CL no proven top drawer.
The Yanks have to keep spending and back the manager, or sell us as it is only success on the pitch that will keep the investment viable.
I don't think Sturridge is a huge risk at that price, like Henderson was more of a risk at £5m more , and I won't even start on Downing
They know full well its only that fourth spot that spins the big bucks, and attracts the top players, until then we need to be pretty cute on players that are accessible to us.
