State of the title race

Speaking of our chances, December will be a ridiculously hard month for us. We have:

Nov 30: Everton (A)
Dec 4: Wolves (A)
Dec 11: Villa (H)
Dec 15: Newcastle (H)
Dec 18: Spurs (A)
Dec 26: Leeds (H)
Dec 28: Leicester (A)
Jan 1: Chelsea (A)

There's also a CL game at Milan on Dec 8. Need to make sure we've already qualified by then, so we can play a B team in this game.

Effectively 9 games in the space of a month - will be hell.
I believe I'm right in saying we actually have one of the easiest Dec/Jan periods with the most rest? 8 days between Spurs and Leeds is a nice rest at that time of year and falls right in the middle !

3 days between Newcastle and Spurs isn't very nice, and it's also 3 games in basically a week between Villa and Spurs. I just hope Bruce keeps his job until then.

I think the African cup of Nations will decide our fate, if we can get through that period without dropping points then we will be full on for the title assault.

We play Brentford and Palace during the tournament. Leicester a few days after the final. It’s not going to be an issue.

We always get maximum points, and often win a world title, in December under Klopp, so its not a problem

6 away games, 3 of them against the big 6 sides in Spurs, Leicester and Chelsea. And the derby away too.

That 8 day gap between Spurs and Leeds won't happen if we beat Preston in the League Cup. League Cup quarter finals will be on Dec 21-22.

If that happens, we'll have 10 games in the space of a month.

Also:

So the final winter schedule is:

Dec 1: Everton (A)
Dec 4: Wolves (A)
Dec 8: Milan (A)
Dec 11: Villa (H)
Dec 16: Newcastle (H)
Dec 19: Spurs (A)
Dec 21-22: League Cup QF (if we beat Preston)
Dec 26: Leeds (H)
Dec 28: Leicester (A)
Jan 2: Chelsea (A)

The Leeds to Leicester turnaround is a joke. Hopefully the Milan and League cup game are relative dead rubber, and allow us to make wholesale changes.

Milan will be a dead rubber. Nobody cares about the league cup.

Not really my point. As I said I believe others have it tougher and without an 8 day break. I haven't checked the schedules since they came out but I remember that point being made at the time.

I think there is a chance that Chelsea run out of energy, and whatever talent they have they are playing a cautious counter attacking style, and all games I have watched them I see a team working extra hard for a win, nothing seems easy for them.

Man City, not sure on them, like Rurik said all depends on them winning midfield battles, depends if they have the energy to continue like that all season. I mean we drew with them despite not turning up at all for the first half, to the point of not having a midfield, so I have doubts.

Excellent post. As much as I complain here, I always believe we are going to win the league unless it is mathematically impossible to do so. In our title-winning season, we discovered the formula the previous season when we got 97 points and jacked up the intensity in the season we won the title.

I feel that this season, we are not there yet. We have been impressive but almost feel that this group is still in the process of gradually rediscovering their strengths again - especially Mane, VVD, Firmino - after last season. It is almost as if the team took a collective blow to the head last season and slowly have started remembering that they are great. Salah is playing at a level I have never seen from an LFC player before. Signs are good. Barring injuries I think we will gradually improve even more and sooner or later click into high gear and start demolishing teams left, right, and center. I feel like there is a demolition of Leicester on boxing day performance coming soon which will really kickstart our title challenge.

Maybe I am being overly optimistic.

This might actually be that performance I was talking about. But not sure as the opposition was dog shit.

Seems we like away games, though, so it plays in our favor.

Tuchel can't last a full season without doing something creepy and retarded so I assume they will run into issues at some point.

Just letting Chelsea win it it seems

Seriously? One loss and win by us and we are back on top.

It is frustrating that we are not getting 3 pts from the top teams - which Brighton is also pushing to be. West Ham joining them.

Other than Brentford, we are tearing the poor teams (United included) and this has often been our downfall.

Way too early for anyone other than Halmeister to be pessimistic.

Nah. It's done.
