Of our 6 midfielders and attackers, only 3 can pass well (Maxi, Gerrard & Riera) ... and let's not get into our defenders inability to move the ball.
Let's be honest Mark, someone should just explain how we've gone from being title contenders to such an average outfit that only 'plays' against good teams.

I wasn't expecting anything creative Roopy, and I've backed him before regarding the onus not being on him to attack, but the point is, he gives away the most basic of passes. This whilst being a top class international. It's infuriating.

Of all our attacking players, two have pace. Which means by the time we get our arses into the oppositions half, it's time to run back home again.

Masher's part of the problem but he is actually world-class at what he does, which is vastly superior to the majority of our squad.
I've argued in the past that he's too defensive minded for a team like Liverpool and would be a better fit for a more attacking team, whereas we'd suit a more all-rounded DM.

I think Mash is suffering from trying to do to much.
When he keeps its simple he's quality but now he is trying to be the creative force.
The issue comes back to Rafa. The buck stops with him and the terrible terrible footbal stops with him.

You'd expect an experienced player, captain of his country no less to be able to do the basics well more often than not.
He didn't do that, if he's a role model for Lucas; no wonder Lucas is unadventurous and intimidated.
The whole team seems unable to pass and move.
Our best players aren't performing, we should be able to count on Masch, Gerrard and Torres; they are either off form or injured. None of them are helping at this point are they? And they definitely shouldn't require a coach to prepare them mentally for games at this stage in their careers.

I don't think it is unreasonable to suggest that Maschers game is affected by having a distinctly average player alongside him, and one that he is completely mismatched with, I suppose the mismatch aspect is not really helping Lucas much either. I think it could affect his passing game.
It's fairly obvious to most of us, except Rafa and possibly the ten people who say he should stay on, that this is not a marriage made in heaven and that Gerrard should play with Mascher and Aqualani behind the forwards/s
