So who do we want/expect/hope?

would be happy with Martinez and starting to like what Im reading and hearing about rodgers. but didn't he publicly say that he wasn't interested? so why do people think he has a chance if that's the case?
Well it's all bollocks like the rest of it, he said he wasn't interested before he had been asked. ie it was the press appointing him.
It might be a different matter when you get an official approach and you can smell the opportunity and the money

regards

Haha all the itk must be pulling out their hair for not knowing what is happening. Love it.

Getting a bit boring and tedious but:

Wigan are set to hold a press conference on Tuesday where Roberto Martinez will announce his future plans, it is understood.

Martinez has been heavily linked with the vacancy at Liverpool and is expected to reveal next week whether he will stay with the Latics or leave.

It is understood the 38-year-old met the Reds' owners in Miami this week to discuss the managerial vacancy and was not put off by the huge rebuilding job at Anfield.

However, it is understood Martinez has not made his mind up completely whether to accept that challenge and has given himself until Tuesday to do so.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan claimed on Friday the Spaniard had received an offer from Liverpool's principal owner John Henry after their meeting in Miami on Thursday.

Doubts emerged over Whelan's interpretation of the situation, with the Reds refusing to comment amid the general belief no formal offer had been made.

Whether they give Van Gaal the manager's job or not, and whatever assurances he may give at this stage in the proceedings, if he becomes DOF my guess is he'll make a play for that job anyway, whether openly or by encroaching on the manager's territory. He'd bring a lot to the role, but IMO there's a real danger of conflict down the line if he gets it.

There would have to be a very clear rule about which one talks to the media. If both do, even occasionally, it will cause huge problems within months. Seeing as Van Gaal hates the press he'll probably be happy being 'gagged,' but I'm sure his views will get out one way or another. Unless the Sporting Director has no responsibility his ego will demand he responds if the manager under-performs.

Does anyone else not think all this attention on a management structure is getting just a tad excessive? Can anyone explain to me, free of jargon, why exactly we need a technical director *and* a sporting director?

Yeah, what about new players? Don't we need some?

I *think* the rationale might be that taking a wider view (dealing with transfers and the commercial side generally) and being in charge of the day-to-day running of the football side add up to more than one full-time job and need a corresponding level of attention from full-time incumbents. I'm not altogether sold on the idea but, in fairness, trying to do both and failing was Parry's downfall, so maybe there's something in it.

I think John Henry read in a book (or, more likely, heard on a talktape in the car) that they're not very important, and, worse still, they're appallingly unpredictable. They make droids' heads blow up, so John is naturally suspicious of them. He probably had a house built somewhere but refuses to let anyone live in it because it would mess everything up. He just gazes at the blueprints and feels a warm glow.

I know you're just offering an explanation, but I don't see why a DoF would have any commercial or financial responsibilities at all. Isn't that why football people are appointed to the post? To deal with, you know, football. To me a DoF would deal with all the football matters a traditional coach doesn't involve himself with: transfers, selecting coaches and other staff, overseeing youth policy, even - cliché of clichés - laying down a 'footballing philosophy'. Anything outside of that, such as signing off on transfer fees, or negotiating contracts, should be the ultimate responsibility of someone with some kind of business expertise. Shouldn't it? Isn't that obvious??

Yeah, let's have a team of managers, with players on the bench!

And then this appeared.....
@leighdineen
"@NOLAN_LISAM: Rumour spreading in NI that john henry has flown brendan rodgers to the US" terrible reporting. He booked in feb to go to ny.

Hahaha. I'm not convinced about a rumour before uncle Bamba resurfaces with a Huang rocket. Then our new manager will unveiled.

@LukeEdwardsTele: I've a feeling Roberto Martinez will disappear quite quickly from #lfc hunt for a new manager. Hearing search remains wide and far reaching

@MichaelF_5 @adamrow85 as far as I am lead to believe John W Henry will be in England tomorrow and I am expecting FSG to announce their new

Ian Abrahams ‏@Moose_talkSPORT

@MichaelF_5 @adamrow85 manager for Liverpool and I see no reason to change my stance that I understand it will be Klopp

No one is demanding anything. "Wee bit overboard"? He said he is done with the club.

A lot of people have not 'fully' recovered from what's happened here with Kenny, whether justified or not (his sacking). People aren't really sure how the club will go the upcoming year, and are scared the shit we thought we got out of last year is just around the corner. Was his statement necessary? Nah, we'd probably all stick by this club even if we were in the conference but to jump on him is ridiculous considering the posts we've had over the last 6 months joyfully hoping for our manager's sacking ...

Apperantly his source is a German journo.

Its obvs shite, but one can hope.

Would be over the moon if it was Klopp although it's hard to take 'the moose' seriously.

Klopp
Rodgers
Martinez

That's my order of preference. I still think it'll be Martinez though.

The moose isn't even taken serious by the other presenters on the talksport.

Still it's nice to be able to dream....

They SHOULD be challenging for fourth, if they had owners who had any expertise rather then these dweebs.

No?! The nerve of some peope. Imagine that, if they had spent 100 mill on new players, finished 8th, 40 points behind the league winners, 20 points behind the season target, lowest goals scored/fewesthome wins, relegation form after Christmas and no sign of improving.

And then they would expect better? Clueless.
