REPORTS today have claimed Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers could yet hold talks with Liverpool chiefs about succeeding Kenny Dalglish.
A number of London-based national newspapers are reporting Rodgers will speak to Anfield chiefs in the coming days despite the 39-year-old turning down an approach to be interviewed for the job less than two weeks ago.
Rodgers was unhappy with the prospect of unsettling his current position at the Swans, with Liverpool offering no guarantee he would get the job as they looked to interview a number of candidates.
There have been claims Rodgers was flown to America for talks about the job over the weekend but those seem wide of the mark, with Rodgers having planned a trip to New York several months ago.

And WalesOnline understands Swans chiefs are still confident Rodgers is going nowhere.
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez still appears the favourite to take on a role at Anfield, with reports suggesting Liverpool bosses are keen to introduce a two-tier stucture that would see a young, dynamic manager work under a more experienced figure.
Dutch coaching legend Louis Van Gaal is understood to be in pole postion for that role, while Martinez will announce his future plans at a press conference tomorrow.
The continuing speculation around Rodgers is thought to be frustrating Liberty Satdium bosses as they believed the issue had been put to bed less than a fortnight ago.
On May 18, the club released a statement after receiving an official approach from Liverpool to speak with Rodgers.
It read: "Swansea City can confirm that an approach from Liverpool FC to speak to manager Brendan Rodgers was officially received by club chairman Huw Jenkins this morning.
"The club is pleased to confirm that Brendan has declined the current opportunity to speak to the Anfield club about the vacant position.
"The Swansea manager is currently working hard to strengthen the squad in readiness for the new Barclays Premier League campaign.
"The club will make no further comment at this stage."

Martinez may well have picked up on the fact that there is a wave of visceral hostility to him from the "supporters."

mate - in the top 3 by xmas and nobody will be moaning. If he starts well the fans will climb onbaord his support

We are fickle remember 😉

Wow! He sounded pretty sure of himself. Klopp for DOF? Decision by end of week?

If Klopp does go for the DOF role, this adds credence to the idea of a 5-10 year plan with the DOF as the real power broker in developing/overseeing a vision for the footballing style/personnel of the club.

Interesting.

What did he say in the interview?

As far as I can tell the Sporting Director, as the football side of the old DOF position is supposedly now called, is someone who will no longer be actually managing. In which case, why the hell would Klopp take it? And if the Sporting Director is going to be a de facto manager, why have the division in the first place when it would basically be the traditional manager and assistant manager set-up?

Has spider niel taken umbrage at being asked to post less than 5000 times a day, or what? I hope Ryan's satisfied.

Well i'm happy to carry the can for all all you cunts who couldn't have agreed more with me yet were too fucking gay to admit it.

Swansea have just released a statement saying there's been no contact from Liverpool re Rodgers.

Apperantly his source is a German journo.

Its obvs shite, but one can hope.

FWIW TalkSh!te were saying this morning that "their understanding " is it's between Rodgers and Klopp.

I suspect nobody knows a blind thing. In fact there are so many rumours that I'm seriously starting to think FSG themselves probably started some of them, either to test the water regarding particular candidates or to distract everybody's attention.

i hope henry announces that he's going to make himself manager, and runs out in a cape made from an american flag singing the happy days theme at the top of his voice. id just like to see gerrards face

All this whole charade tells me is how desperately those Americans must have wanted Dalglish out the door.

No replacement even close to being lined up, combined with being rejected by a line up of B-level European managers.

They must really have wanted him gone.

What did he say in the interview?

1) Looking like Klopp is top FSG target
2) Klopp interested
3) Klopp for DOF role.
4) Looking to have process complete by Euro's starting
5) Looking good for Klopp decision by end of this week

That's from memory as I've been typing up a report since listening to it.

they must have had something in mind when they got rid of commoli

Fox, we've got you taking everything the press report as gospel, & Neil believing anything anyone says on Twitter as gospel.

You're both wrong, for the same reason.

Yes. The only question really is whether they made their decision when they sacked Comolli or whether they would have given Kenny another chance if we won the FA Cup.

I suspect the former, and he would have been sacked regardless.

Or it may be that they felt it was not ethical to line up a successor behind Kenny's back - which is the usual scenario in the Premier League. 🙂

Klopp as a Dof? He's working as a coach/manager now and has a Dof at Dortmund.

If we're interested its because we want him as a coach/manager.

Here's the old goat again. He looks like he's being fellated by a Smurf.

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan is hopeful Liverpool opt for Swansea City's Brendan Rodgers as their new manager, and he has given the Reds until Thursday to make up their minds over Roberto Martinez.
Liverpool are on the hunt for a new boss after they sacked Kenny Dalglish, who paid the price for poor home form in the Premier League. A number of coaches have been linked with the post, with Wigan's Martinez set for a second set of talks with the Reds owners on Tuesday.
Swansea manager Rodgers has also been mooted as a candidate for the position, although the Welsh club stressed on Mondaythat the Northern Irishman will remain at the Liberty Stadium.
Whelan, though, has told ESPN: "If it is true that Liverpool want to speak with Brendan Rodgers it proves they don't know who they want as manager. I hope they choose Brendan Rodgers."
The Wigan chief also confirmed he wants a resolution over Martinez's future by the end of the week, adding: "Roberto has told me he is speaking with Liverpool again on Tuesday.
"I have now made it clear that I want this sorted out by Thursday at the latest as we have to get on preparing for next season."
