Smack in the face or a kick in the nuts?

I just read that the ref yesterday gave Nani's foul as a second yellow, and not a direct red, something to do with Nani getting a first yellow for stepping on the pitch

Henry Winter was the ghost-writer for the biographies of Dalglish, Barnes and Gerrard. Perhaps he's just in love with the beautiful game and wants English teams to do well regardless of who they are.

I don't see how helping to write a few football biographies (I don't think it matters if they're for Liverpool players) stops that from being a nauseating piece, that aggrandizes the Manc's lacklustre performance, and places their departure from the Champion's League solely on the "incompetent" decision of "A 36-year old insurance agent from Istanbul".

It's pathetic, biased, bullshit writing. End of.

Former United midfielder Lou Macari branded Cakir's performance 'rubbish'.
'I thought it was a strange decision - a referee from Turkey who we hadn't heard of. He had no great reputation of being one of the top referees,' he told BBC 5 Live.

When it was pointed out that Cakir was well regarded in Europe, he said: 'He's still rubbish.
'You don't have referees like that for these big games. The referee's assessor was there last night and he's a proper referee from the past, (Pierluigi) Collina.
'I am sure he looked at the decision and thought, "He's got it wrong".
'I couldn't believe it when he pulled out the red card - it was simply a wrong decision.'

I wonder what he said when he heard Collina said it was a red.

The latest reasoning that it wasn't a red is that 'it wasn't a challenge, he was trying to control the ball, therefore it shouldn't have been red'.

Bollocks.

Lip-reading the 4th official here... did I just see him say "Cunt, go away"?

There was a BBC newsreader introducing a report about it - the match - today and he couldn't stop laughing.

He never said "Cunt, go away". The normal way to say that, would be "Go away, cunt". Not the other way around.

I didn't comment on what I thought of the piece (although I did earlier post some of it that I'd laughed at). I was just highlighting who Winter was and why he might be taking such an approach.

Dear god - What a numpty.

Manchester United fan calls 999 over Nani's red card

One fan was so angered by the referee's decision at Old Trafford he called the police

An outraged football fan was so disgusted with the referee's decision to send-off Nani in Tuesday's Champions League clash he called 999.
The 18-year-old Manchester United supporter was watching at home in a village near Bingham, Nottinghamshire.
He felt the red card shown to the United winger was a crime so called police.
He later apologised for the call, saying he was caught up in the moment. Police will not take any action.
'Waste our time'
The fan, who has not been named, called police at about 21:20 GMT during the second leg against Real Madrid.
He was incensed by the referee's decision to show Nani the red card for a high challenge on Alvaro Arbeloa.
Chief Insp Ted Antill said: "While this recent example may be amusing, it illustrates the sort of insincere calls we have to deal with on a daily basis in the control room.
"They waste our time and they direct us away from genuine victims of crime, particularly if we dispatch officers out to something that turns out to be a bogus report."
He warned that prank calls to 999 are a crime and that people have been prosecuted in the past,
"It's no joke. In this case, the man realised his bad judgement and apologised and we decided not to pursue it further," he added.
Nottinghamshire police said it received 6,933 recorded hoax calls in 2012 which is about 2% of all reported incidents.
But the caller was in good company with Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said to be "too distraught" to speak to the media after the match which was won by Real Madrid.
Portuguese footballer Luis Carlos Almeida da Cunha is commonly known as Nani.

See, I don't really get this. The rules say endangering a fellow player's safety is worthy of a red card. Is it that you think the rules are wrong? Cos seems to me they were applied properly last night.

According to the rules then you'll never see another overhead kick scored. It'dd be dangerous every single time in the box.

I don't think it was a red as there was clearly no intent there whatsoever, he wasn't even aware Arbs was there, watched the ball all the way and jumped to try and control it.

But anyway that's just my opinion. It was fucking hilarious though.

There's nothing about intent in the rules. Dangerous play innit.

I was of the opinion that it wasn't red last night. I don't really give a fuck. It was just ace. It still is. It will continue to be for some time.
